Does anyone actually prefer Bond's short hair?

Craig is thinning overall and getting that widow's peak because he's heading for fifty and a closer crop actually hides the exaggeration better than longer hair. My biggest beef with his appearance is the eyebrows. They appear almost non existent in a lot of scenes and images which for me gives him an almost alien look. I wish they had at least dyed them dark enough so that they were more pronounced. For that matter, I'm still at a loss as to why he doesn't darken all his hair for this role. He's playing Bond, and like Superman, the characters hair color shouldn't change with the actor (I include Moore's in this as well, since his got too light at times).
I noticed that with his eyebrows as well, in most shots they seem as if theyre totally shaved off. But on Craigs hair, i agree with Thunderpussy that his longer QOS cut seemed like a desperate attempt to hide his recession most of the time but looked great other times.

Even though Bond is written as having long black hair with the Brosnan-esque comma falling over his forehead it just wouldn't suit Craig's face or his take on the character, I can understand how it could have slightly irked others but to me it fits Craigs portrayal.

I didn't want my preference for darkening his hair to mean it should be black like Brosnan's or Dalton's...it' would certainly not suit him. I only wished he had
at least got it a few shades darker (closer to a medium brown). There are
some photos where the lighting makes it seem as if it's darker, and I think he
looks better in them. I've did some photoshopping of images of him to see how
he would look with the darker hair and brows. Some are better quality than others. The first group are where I think his hair is styled the best and about the right shade. My favorite is probably where his head is angled to the (our) left and he has a light gray tie. I darkened his hair in the right image and I think it works. Some of the images where I darkened his hair are more subtle but I think on can see the improvement.

I could not add this one to my last post for some reason. It's an old one
where he's very young and has very dark hair. Look's like Bond as a
    very young man.

Craigy's hair was best in QOS. His entire look in that film was sleak and sophisticated, impeccably tailored, trad Bond-like.

I've adopted the Casino Royale short and mussed up look since the film came out. Much quicker in the mornings :)

In Skyfall, I found DC's hair too short. his haircut in Casino Royale seems to be the best in the whole series, because it's super slick look, very peaked at the front, that I find, absolutely timeless. I've had this haircut for years (although my hair is very wavy and doesn't look quite as good) and will never get tired of it. The way I saw DC sporting this cut in CR looked like the bang on profile of Bond. In reality, he's meant to be someone who blends in with crowds.

In Skyfall, his hair was more like a faded buzz cut almost, I think they're trying to make him just look tougher, like a commando perhaps. It just doesn't describe bond entirely.

However, the way his hair was styled in the Macau Casino somewhat payed homage to the way Connery's hair looked in Dr. No in the casino - heavily parted on the side and a more gloss hair wax being applied. I was disappointed when it wasn't styled this way the rest of the movie. It does look a it too formal is the problem.

The CR haircut needs a resurrection!!

The whole hair issue is an interesting conundrum. I suspect there were several
reasons the close cropped style was chosen. One is that is doesn't move much in action scenes (such as whipping around on the top of speeding trains)...which saves production time and continuity headaches. Another is it adds to his worn
out disheveled look in the first act having nearly died and then having to crawl
back physically to the point he can return to active duty (the whiskers also aid in this). This also maybe a bit of artistic licence, but for me I got the idea that it
could have been his previous assignment required him to get a close cut and
it was still in that stage when he was handed the Istanbul job. Also, Craig is thinning overall and getting that widow's peak because he's heading for fifty and a closer crop actually hides the exaggeration better than longer hair. My biggest beef with his appearance is the eyebrows. They appear almost non existent in a lot of scenes and images which for me gives him an almost alien look. Craig could -- and should -- have darkened his hair and eyebrows for the role -- he certainly would have seemed more Bondian. Watch scenes in his Bonds where he is in darker light and his hair and features are more defined, such as when he is in M's home in CR or when he wins the DB5 -- definitely more Bondian. In the bright light, though, he washes out. It's part of what makes him look older and less suave, too. It was a misstep to try to make him look more like Jason Bourne than James Bond.

I doubt if anyone was trying to make Craig look like Jason Bourne. I think it was decided that he would maintain his looks as they were and just focus on playing Bond to the best of his ability. Many people are pleased with the result and some aren't, but I wouldn't characterize the decision as a misstep.

I would. It's not a dealbreaker in itself (Moore didn't go black-haired, but he was an established star when he got the part) but if he'd at least tried to look like Bond it would have distracted from his other liabilities.

Gotta say, it bugged me a bit when I saw the press photo shoot with the cast. Watching the film, it was not an issue at all. However, I prefer DC's hair from QoS. That worked the best for him, in my opinion. Hope to see longer hair in Bond 24, but if not... it's no big deal. :)

Well my friend, I'm not sure just what liabilities you're referring to, but from most appearances it seems Craig has been one of the most successful Bonds ever. That suggests to me that Craig's lack of "Bond-like" looks hasn't really been that much of an issue, at least not with the general public. I could be wrong, but that's my impression.

Agree that attitude is key, also agree that dark looks odd on Daniel. However, dark-er would work, and would not compromise his ' tude' it's not either or in my book. What is noticeable is that 3 films and god knows how many years in (can't be arsed to check dates ) we are still discussing his look, hair, height, build...) Either we Bondaholics are an anal retentive change averse bunch or there are issues here ( or to take my own medicine it's not either or but both)
For me his look has been an issue, he has nonetheless been a fine Bond and we should get over it now. :007)

We are Bond fans so " anal retentive " is a given. :)) We can argue over the weave of a
particular Bond suit, or the type of laces Bond had in his shoes in a certain scene ;)

Could be, Blackleiter. But Craig's Bonds all seem to have taken a page from the Bourne movies in terms of the fighting and toughness -- QoS even had the same spastic editing. While Daniel Craig may have lighter hair and features, he has darkened them in roles before, and I suspect the decision to keep them "natural" in part was influenced by the success of the Bourne films and character. I say this with the same suspicion that a reason we got Casino Royale was the success of another prequel juggernaut called Batman Begins. Of late, the Bonds, albeit quite successfully, seem to be playing catch up and imitator more than leader and innovator, right down to SF being The Wrath of Khan meets The Dark Knight.

Because of the use of the word 'spastic' - I'm also surprised you tried to defend your crass comment, it does you no favours.
