I contact Sunspell in 2012 in relation to Fifty years of Bond Style' exhibition at London’s Barbican Thunderball Shorts and if they would be producing them and hassled them about it a number if times since and they are now in production, I got an email off them today with a link so I could be one of the first to buy

This is what they say
In 2011, Sunspel was asked to recreate the iconic swim shorts worn by Sean Connery in his role as James Bond in Thunderball for the ‘Designing 007: Fifty years of Bond Style' exhibition at London’s Barbican. After months researching traditional swimwear we combined this knowledge with a modern design sensibility to create our first swim short. Crafted from a contemporary fast-drying performance fabric and lined with a superfine mesh - offering maximum comfort and a tailored appearance - the Sunspel swim short is the ultimate in versatile Riviera chic.

Navy and Black ones will be avalible mid June

Rrp £120

Thanks again
Ross

Yeh I think I may wait for the other colours too but it's good to see they are producing what we ask them too

The thing is, the original shorts from the picture used for the replica were not worn in Thunderball, or even by James Bond. Those are from Sean Connery's 1964 film Woman of Straw. Actually, the suits in that film were worn in Goldfinger a few months later. The famous grey plaid suit is in the film, without the waistcoat, as is every other suit from Goldfinger.

Yep Matt S is spot on. That being said I will be receiving these shorts to do a video on SUNSPEL offerings in general.

Matt is correct , this was discussed on here when sunspel 1st made a 1 off pair for show,,

however, the promotional shots of Connery in the other movie, are similar to the jantzen shorts (blue) in thunderball and the new shorts are similar,

They are very similar, but it's a significant mistake to make. The most obvious difference is that Bond's shorts have a belt. I noticed a few other things wrong with the clothing at the Designing 007 exhibition, like Dalton's notched-lapel dinner jacket was labeled as being from Licence to Kill, but it was actually the one from The Living Daylights.

I agree, sunspel have tried to jump on the OB band wagon by doing sky blue,, the navy blue due out next month will be closer to the jantzen, but your right,, no belt loops,, tut tut,,

Sunspel swimsuit video review coming tomorrow at thebondexperience.com but I will post here as well...the suit is very well made, though the hem length is quite a bit longer than Connery's picture would denote...

Excellent review David. I really prefer the Woman of Straw shorts over the Jantzen Thunderball shorts. However, I don't like their dishonest marketing that compares these to Bond's Thunderball shorts. I would think they should know the truth by now.
