Refn isn't the only Scandinavian director to be of interest for the Bond producers. Norwegian director Morten Tyldum, who made "Headhunters", has been in a meeting. Broccoli and Wilson asked if he would be available in the future. He was also shown a script. The chances of Tyldum getting the job is probably small, but it's interesting that there is some kind of script at this stage.
I think directors like Refn and Tyldum would be a mistake. If you look at the worst Bond movies in recent times (DAD and QoS) both were made by directors who had made interesting, normal-budgeted movies. They had no experience making big movies. Bond movies are so big, a major part of making them is administration. Also, have you notices the two are the only non-British directors in Bond history?
