"Sean is Bond
Only Sir Sean is Bond
He'll be Bond
When the other blokes are gone
Sean is Bond
We know that across The Pond
That Lazenby fellow can't stand in the shoes of Sir Sean."
And now - the lyrics to the first verse of OHMSS (inspired by esteemed member, chrisisall):
"Sean is Bond
Only Sir Sean is Bond
He'll be Bond
When the other blokes are gone
Sean is Bond
We know that across The Pond
That Lazenby fellow can't stand in the shoes of Sir Sean."
Thank you.
Holy crap. I just played the instrumental and sung those lyrics. They go so well!!! Nice work sir -{
When I was just a child, and saw OHMSS on TV for the first time, I had missed the first half an hour or so, so was not aware that the theme was an instrumental. But I heard the theme playing throughout the movie. I assumed it had words, and my child-mind assumed that the main hook went "On her majesty's secret service away he goes!"

Timothy Dalton - Licence To Kill
Pierce Brosnan - The World Is Not Enough
Daniel Craig - Skyfall
I watched an interview with John Barry and Hal David...they referred to OHMSS as their best work.
I agree. When you can hear a song and it embodies a theme without words...then it is magic.
As for songs....
On Her Majesty's Secret Service - essence of Bond...not my words but the authors and I agree.

Honorable mention goes to Never Say Never Again -- the unused them by Phyllis Hyman.
You cheated with Surrender. That's not a title song in the sense that it neither plays over the film's opening titles nor does it share the title of the film.
Here are my choices:
Diamonds Are Forever
On Her Majesty's Secret Service (It's the only choice. Neither We Have All the Time in the World nor Do You Know How Christmas Trees Are Grown count.)
Nobody Does it Better
The Living Daylights
The World Is Not Enough (since Surrender doesn't count)
You Know My Name (though I don't care much for any of the four)

Sure, it was supposed to be. But it wasn't. You might as well call it "Tomorrow Never Dies" since it was supposed to be called that too. Some of my favourite Bond songs aren't main themes. If There Was a Man, Surrender and We Have All the Time in the World are some of the best songs from the Bond films.

Well, still my submission. And You Know My Name and Nobody Does It Better don't share the title of the movie, either.

But they play over the main titles. chrisisall clearly meant main themes, seeing as he didn't choose Skyfall.
Yes, but I was responding to this statement of yours, which seemed to suggest that the songs selected had to have both qualities, which clearly some do not:
You cheated with Surrender. That's not a title song in the sense that it neither plays over the film's opening titles nor does it share the title of the film.

At any rate, I still stand by my selections.
My statement doesn't say that it needs to have both of those qualities. It just says that Surrender doesn't qualify for either definition of a title song.
Each Bond movie until John Barry's retirement from the series (including those he didn't do: LALD, TSWLM, FYEO) had a specific theme composed for it, whether or not it had lyrics and whether or not those lyrics included the title of the movie. This piece of music (I'm being very careful not to call it a song) is heard during the credits and integrated into the score.
Since that point (ie from LTK onwards) the sad practice of hiring one composer to write the score while another writes the title song has become prevalent*. This puts the score composer at a disadvantage both artistically and financially (he's already obliged to use the "James Bond Theme", and using a title theme he didn't write means he has to shoehorn two pieces of someone else's music into his score and not collect the relevant royalties later). David Arnold has fought against this, sometimes successfully (CR), sometimes not (DAD).
So... "Surrender" is the main theme for TND since Arnold integrates it into his score. Sadly, it's not the title song though. I say "sadly" because it's clearly the better piece of music... er, IMHO.
This thread'll be in the Music forum soon, since it fits better in there.

That subject would fit nicely into this thread: http://www.ajb007.co.uk/topic/45230/007-theme-song-lyrics-analysis-thread/ Anyone care to have a go at this?
