Which Bond actors had the most screen presence?

walther p99walther p99 NJPosts: 3,416MI6 Agent
and which had the least? screen presence can be defined as star quality, charisma, being able to hold the viewers attention. I would say that obviously Connery had the most screen presence due to his commanding 6'2 stature and oozed charisma and charm. For the least i would have to say Lazenby, but seeing as it was his first acting gig he did pretty well. and for being the shortest Bond, Daniel Craig has a good screen presence even if Bardem and Fiennes stole their scenes in Skyfall.

Yes I would go along with Connery also, but more due to that Bond was relatively new in the scheme of things,
it was early sixties, not that long after the war, and people would have found the whole Bond thing
fascinating ,foreign places, fancy cars , fancy women ect ect .So I think Connery had a head start over the other Bonds
but that was due to the times, Now my grandfather was a London docker, and if some one had said to him in the sixties
"your grandson wil be flying to all those exotic Bond locations, wearing Rolexs, driving fancy cars
he would have laughed (hope I didn't stray to far )
By the way, did I tell you, I was "Mad"?

Connery hands down. Even after all these years one is struck by the strong impression he makes in every one of his Bond films.

With his background as a stage trained actor, I always felt that Timothy Dalton has a great screen presence. Every scene in his two films, he is in I can not take my eyes off him. Also when he speaks his delivery is focused and straight forward. Daniel Craig also has a good presence about him, especially in the scenes in Casino Royale when Bond discusses what kind of person he is with Vesper and later when he is on the phone with M.

I'd have to answer both Connery & Dalton. With Connery, it was natural, just him. And like PPK 7.65mm said, Dalton's training made him shine.
Lazenby, while I like him, is clearly on the other end of this spectre-um. :))

Connery did without a doubt, but I feel the dark horse here is Pierce Brosnan. It seemed as if he'd been playing Bond for years in GE. He had a certain comfortability and it showed on-screen as he displayed confidence and power. I give him my vote as the Bond with the most screen presence!

Well, Sean Connery EMBODYING James Bond has become an Icon. Sir Sean as anything - i.e. himself - nah.

But dress a young SC up as JB and you've got the big screen presence down.

Of those who had to emulate it - that is, act at providing a version of Bond that would compete with SC - Tim has it due to his acting training, as others have said.

For total balls-out naturalness, Laz had it with a big P. (Brains, though, on the small side).

DC hasn't a great deal I've seen (though others'll swear he's got it I buckets). And yet, somehow, he still succeeds.

Brosnan's just Brosnan - the man who made himself JB waaaayyy before GE.

    Connery absolutely.
The scent smoke and sweat of a casino are nauseating at three in the morning. Then the soul-erosion produced by high gambling - a compost of greed and fear and nervous tension - becomes unbearable and the senses awake and revolt from it.

Pierce was born for the role, he was a perfect Bond in the less than perfect era.

However, no one can touch Sean. He set the standard for everyone. It will impossible to top him, also because he had the perfect material (ian Fleming) and the perfect era (everything from the UK was cool in the 60's) to work with.

Rog is the ultimate professional and incredibly hard-working. Just look at what he's achieved for UNICEF since leaving Bond and look how much he puts in as a Bond ambassador.

I've been lucky enough to meet him a couple of times and the man embodies "screen presence"- he has a huge personality and charisma.

Well, if you think that Lazenby's ludicrous decision to walk away from Bond, after the quality OHMSS and his performance in it, wasn't an unbelieveable stroke of luck that ultimately benefitted Rog then we have different views on what constitutes amazing good fortune.

Add to that Cubby's blinkered unwillingness to move on from Rog in the early 80s (wouldn't happen now on Bab's watch - ask Pierce) and again, I'd say the Almighty was smiling down on Rog.

So it's probably with good reason he's a loyal ambassador for Bond.

And I conceded he's obviously a nice guy, with all his UNICEF work. And, alongside Pierce, the prettiest Bond.

Aah, that kind of luck! Well he was one of the original contenders for the role at the time of Connery, so maybe not an out-of-the-blue kind of luck. After all each actor to play Bond has been lucky when the previous encumbent has moved on :))

But point taken, and I agree with you that Lazenby's excision was ludicrous after the brilliant OHMSS {[]

I'd totally agree that getting cast as Bond is pretty much amazing huge good fortune, whichever Bond is our individual favourite. (Hell, once upon a time you had to be able to grow to 6 foot plus just to get an interview!)

Sean - how many folk turned down the role BEFORE he was offered it???? And thank God Fleming wrote Bond as tall and dark, eh? AND Cubby & Harry were brave enough to cast a balsy (balding?!! :)) ) jock to play a refined Englishman

George - a nervous Cubby & Harry were chasing a Connery clone, obviously, in 68/69. Step forward Mr Lazenby.

    Rog - see above

Tim - Cubby's loyalty to Rog, the "is it Pierce, isn't it" shenanigans.... Glossy mini series to support a theatre career the alternative?

Pierce - the nob at UA torpedoing Tim after his encouraging brace, Bab's inability to get the less conventional Sean Bean cast. Saved from a career of TV movies?

Craig - Babs, Babs, Babs, Bourne AND Brosnan (yes, Pierce's box office success gave Babs the muscle to get him in). And the bravery of casting a minus 6 foot, unconeventional lead. Who, where, would have thunk it?????

Makes you feel sorry for the poor buggers who missed out 'cos there timing/height/decision making just wasn't right, eh????

From watching the Making Of documentaries, seeing Roger Moore candidly on location showed his true presence. He just oozed charisma and confidence, while somehow maintaining a self-deprecating manner. During Octopussy when there were thousands of fans flooding around him, he showed zero signs of being uncomfortable, he didn't shy away from any interaction or anything. The guy definitely has a presence.

In the face of this Brosnan hate I must say
    Pierce Brosnan was:

    *The Best looking Bond.
    *The smoothest Bond.
    *The most vulnerable Bond.
*The Bond with the best do.
*The best Bond with a machine gun.
*The Bond with the highest number of double entendres per movie.
*The Bond with the most confirmed kills.
*The Bond most likely to bite his sexual conquests.
*The only Bond to straighten his tie even under water.

**The Best looking Bond - Sure, if you like "Prettyboys"!
**The smoothest Bond - True....his face is as smooth as a baby's bottom!
**The most vulnerable Bond - Not sure that's a virtue for Bond, but Pierce can have that one!
**The Bond with the best do - What is this, a Miss Universe pageant????
**The best Bond with a machine gun - Machine gun? Sean didn't need no stinkin' machine gun!
**The Bond with the highest number of double entendres per movie - Sir Rog has Moore (hee hee!) of those in one film than in all of Pierce's put together! (okay, except DAD!)
**The Bond with the most confirmed kills - Well what do you expect when a guy uses a machine gun?!!!!
**The Bond most likely to bite his sexual conquests - And Dracula is very, very envious!
**The only Bond to straighten his tie even under water - Now that truly is an accomplishment!

**Just messing with you, chris!!!! :D

Connery. Even in non-Bond films (and some bad ones at that) he commands the screen. Perfect example: his cameo as King Richard at the end of "Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves" is the most memorable thing about the film (IMO not a bad film despite Kevin Costner's miserable attempt at a British accent).
