Are they repeating what they did with SPECTRE?

StawazStawaz CanadaPosts: 101MI6 Agent
So, the first two Connery films featured SPECTRE villains. Aswell as the first two Craig films featured Quantum villains. Now, both Goldfinger and Skyfall (Both the 3rd films by the actors) feature villains that are not parts of SPECTRE nor Quantum. So therefore, I think the next Bond film will feature Quantum again. I'm going to be uploading a video on my youtube channel (Of the same name of my account) about this in a bit, but I wanted some people's opinions. I personally think this would be really cool. I'm one of the few Bond fans that actually enjoyed QoS, and also really love the idea of Quantum being the "next SPECTRE", and think it's one of the only opportunities for the series to return to it's roots (In a good way, not in a "We're just doing this for the sake of doing it" kind of way). Thoughts?

Good corollary there. I have a feeling they are done with Quantum after the reception that QoS got. I wouldn't mind seeing it back though. QoS's problems did not lie in the story in my eyes.

I think Quantum will be back. As with SPECTRE it means Bond can
stay away from real politics and stay in his own world.

Yeah. One thing I really liked about the old SPECTRE movies, for example, FRWL, was that it still involved the espionage against the USSR at the time, but both sides didn't realise that SPECTRE was actually setting everything up. I'd like to see that again. Perhaps something with Iran? I don't know, but I miss the espionage with SPECTRE.

At the moment Bankers and Big Businesses are seen to be Villains by the public.
QUANTUM fits nicely in to this group, corrupt Business men and criminals acting
    together to make their fortunes.
I love to see a modern Meeting with the leader bumping off a lesser member who
had been up to no good. Maybe by the old Al Capone method by beatjng them to
death with a baseball bat. in front of the rest of the meeting, to show he's the
    Alpha male.

It is a strong possibly that Quantum could return. I believe that during press for Skyfall Wilson and Broccoli said that Quantum could return in Bond 24 or Bond 25. I can defiantly see Quantum doing the kinds of dirty deeds that SPECTRE did like manipulating world governments/ Intelligence and military forces against each other like they did in From Russia With Love and You Only Live Twice. Also given Le Chiffre's plot to short airline stocks in Casino Royale, I would not be surprised if Quantum had their people working inside banks, and other big business to cause chaos or launder money for their activities.

I would love to see Quantum back, and I'm sure that it will be and they won't kill it off as quickly as SPECTRE. I just hope that they don't do plots like SPECTRE's in THunderball. More like YOLT, though not with the volcano.

After the water story in QOS . They could move on to GM crops. As whole species of crops can be copyrighted so have to be paid for season after season.
Almost as in The Omen 2 they say about "Thorn Industry " that their biggest profit will come from world hunger.

Could be quite interesting. One if my favourite parts of Quantum was when Mr White says "We were so scared, oh, MI6, they're listening to our phone calls and tracking our messages, but the truth is, you don't even know we exist!".

Agreed. Quantum has the potential to be better than Spectre in y eyes because its not about holding the world to ransom, its about control and influence. That is more subtle and opens many more story opportunities. I would also like the idea of a committee or quorum rather than a default single leader as Blofeld was. Much harder to eliminate and gives the option for exciting, dangerous and sexy stories.
This is Thunderbird 2, how can I be of assistance?

Mabey thay could come up with a new recurring Villain and leave Bolfeld in the Past ?
Someone who is only hinted at in a couple of films before being revealed.

Oh yes, I was not implying that Blofeld be brought back, rather the reverse! Leave him in the past as a vintage legacy. New and different leading baddies please!

No I wasn't disagreeing with you Thunderbird 2, Infact I love your
Idea of having a quorum in control -{ . I too want New and Different
Villains for Bond to tackle. :D

And if they made it so it's such a wide network, that'd be cool. Like, there's almost no way they could be removed, they control way too much and run way too deep. Would be a great challenge for Bond. It could bring Bond down really far, as well.

A six-year plan would be good for EON, if they are insisting Craig be on board for that long...

Then again, with the whole whistleblower thing with Snowden, this seems like a more topical Bond plot, to use that situation as a jumping off point, ie Bond has to reluctantly protect some Julian Assange type character (played by Cumberbatch) in a Living Daylights type plot, where it turns out to have links with something much bigger, in terms of those who are trying to off him.

It's a shame that the plot for the next film is most likely already past first draft stage, in that sense.

I want a Bond villain who is controlled by Quantum but not happy about it. He, like Bond, wants to overcome Quantum, but for different reasons. In many ways they could help eachother while also having a deadly rivalry. Something a bit different along those lines.

Mr. White??? Quantum cuts him loose and/or he goes on the run after Quantum tries to off him due the to the fact that it was his trail that led Bond to the discovery of the organization?

SPECTRE and the new QUANTUM are always compared, but to me they seem like two different animals. Though they hinted in CR and QOS that it's some type of illegal organization loosely made up of a combination of dirty corporate white collar types, double agents, crooked politicians and other types of economic mercenaries, it's not clear if there is a real leader like Blofeld - though they probably have one. SPECTRE on the other hand, was Fleming's version of an international Mafia type organization made up of ex-members of the Gestapo, SMERSH, Tito's secret police, the Mafia, the Unione Corse, and a massive heroin-smuggling operation based in Turkey. Basically, people who's own organization probably kicked them out for various reasons or simply who had experience working for fascist states. They're basically needed a group that could feed their greedy lifestyle (and probably perverted/sadistic wants) as well as enable them to continue doing the kind of nasty things they did for their former employers. They dressed it all up in a white collar corporate atmosphere to maintain a professional and commercial fascade (as the mob did when Lucky Luciano got all the families to organize together into a pseudo corporate family that began having "board meetings"). QUANTUM to me, at least at present, comes across more as a group of shady business leaders and government officials who work with international scum just to maintain influence and keep lining their pockets.

I would love to see Quantum back. The Mr White plot wasn't resolved for me, I know there was an alternative ending for QoS where White gets killed by Bond I believe, but they decided to keep the ending open, maybe for future movies. Skyfall was brilliant, but the whole thing with one rogue agent, owning an abandoned island in the middle of the sea was a nod to the early films I think, now they may go back to some more realistic things.

Definitely has potential. I think it would be interesting. As MrZareba said, the Mr White plotline hasn't really been resolved, possibly for future films. If he does return I hope it's not just a simple 'Mr White is back, let's get him this time' thing. Something more complex character wise.

QoS had mixed to moderately positive reviews at worse, it's main problem being it came out between CR and SF. I don't think it was badly received enough to force the writers/producers to kill off still potentially great long term story arcs (like Mr. White in particular).
