How I learnt to Calm dowm and Love the reboot.

I wasn't a member of AJB007 when I watched CR and loved it, as I was a Happy Bond fan, I didn't
feel the need to vent any anger. :D I felt good and though what a cracking film, Bond is Back.
Then came QOS, :#
I arrived home so shocked My wife actually asked me if something had happened. So I got
ANGRY, got on the web and found AJB007, to vent off, and boy did I. :))
I attacked the Producers, The Director, Daniel Craig, what the Fu*k were they doing to Bond ?
After a few months I did calm down, due to the efforts of others on AJB007, who did point out
the good points of the reboot. I was still annoyed at what they'd done and posted what I thought
they'd need to change to get the series Back on track.
Happily I can say with Skyfall they have made those changes, and Once again I'm a Happy Bond fan.
And can now look at QOS as a blip on the "Roadmap",
Was I wrong ? Mabey ! I do think in the early days I did go a little over the top with my derision of
QOS and admit I got Mixed up with my dislike for this One film and the change of direction or reinvention
of the character the Producers were trying to do.
So it annoys me when I can see some posting similar comments after all these years about the series
and Daniel Craig. We all have strong opinions and many of us I think live in a world where WE are the
local Bond expert, So it can be a shock to the system to find out there are others out there who Know
more about all things Bond. :))
With some Posts you can almost feel the anger, I hope like Me some can come round to liking the new
age for Bond. Before getting so angry that you end up getting barred from what is a truly Friendly,welcoming
Bond site with many different opinions. We are not always right and none of us are the arbiter of all things
Bond. :)
I hope we can all keep it friendly, we should all be mates as we all love Bond. So perhaps before we write
something we could give it a quick once over to keep it on the friendly side.
I hope I'm not coming across as Sumg or full of self-importance, But I too started posting as an angry
( admittedly handsome ) Young ? man. Instead of posting as a Bond fan out to meet other fans and
learn more facts on Bond Music, film, books etc.
Now I can disagree with Others and get into a dicussion but as I'm arguing with Mates, It can be kept
as if we were having a pint and pulling each others Legs in the Pub.

Just a mini rant, but I had to get it off my chest. ;)

    Hehe the good old QoS conundrum lol

    To be fair I think the problem with QoS was Casino Royale! Expectations were so damn bloody high and I was also disappointed at the time as CR really blew me away and was pretty much damn perfect (for me anyhow)

    In more recent times I actually enjoy Quantum, its fast paced and has some good scenes, my biggest disappointment with it was Camille and Bond don't really go anywhere relationship wise (odd for a Bond film and leaves it sort of empty), the intro fight swinging around like Tarzan and the ridiculously high tech tables etc back at the office still annoy me!!!! Changing the Water plot for Oil might be a little better also.

    If im honest I enjoyed Skyfall but still a bit disappointed with it for some reason though im actually not quite sure. I enjoyed the PTS, Shanghai and the lodge finale but the Casino / Island section until the great DB5 scene, im kinda bored which I guess is the big middle section of the movie!!!

    Deep down im hoping Mendes doesn't sign on for the next one, if only Campbell would do another!!!!

    Also agree - not sure why these discussions get so personal and angry lol, everybodys view is different and there is no official "good" or "bad" film lol -{

    I like this thread, as it is very close to something that I had considered posting myself.

    Superb post TP and I also found myself agreeing with the vast majority of what Welshboy has posted too.

    Although I did really enjoy SF one hell of a lot, there was a nagging feeling that a couple of things could have been done a little differently, particularly the early exit of Severine & slight overuse of the term "ma'am". Neither of these took away the gloss of the film for me, however when nit-picking it's worth highlighting.

    Craig seems to be a bit like marmite on these boards, which is fair enough in itself - however ... it does seem to invoke certain levels of tribalism or arrogance in certain views expressed, which sadly fails to take in to account that we all see & like things differently. I've never been quite sure as to why differing opinions on a subject that we all clearly love can't be respected, or, at the very least, taken on board & not binned out of hand?

    Cheers guys. -{

    Sometimes I think we get so caught up in our views that we can't accept a different view, almost
    taking it as a personal attack, when it's just a different opinion. :))

    On a different tack please read SMUG for Sumg ;)
    ( I must be getting dyslexic in my old age. I read through that post at least five times
    and never saw anything wrong :)) )

    I was only hoping as I was an angry poster at first, that I could give some of my experience. As I do
    feel I was very Hard on Daniel Craig ( unfairly) at the start, which I can only put down to being so
    startled by QOS , I was lashing out at everyone. Because I thought he was Brilliant in CR. :D
    and that so far ( In my Opinion ;) ), Skyfall is his best performance as Bond.

    As welshboy78 said there is no official good or bad film, just as there is NO right or wrong opinion. :)

    TP, my man! Excellent post! All of us, myself included, should turn down the temperature a bit and get back to what brought us here - our love of Bond. All opinions are welcome, of course, but let's try harder to stay away from the unnecessary vitriol and condensation. No reason we can't express our opinions firmly, even passionately, but still remain respectful. (Unless you state that Connery sucks as Bond - then all bets are off! :)))

    Seriously, though - thanks TP! -{

    I've changed it. ( That was what Barbel was hinting at :)) )

    I can only quote Eric Morecambe on playing the piano for André Previn.

    Nice post TP!

    I know it makes me a bad Bond fan but I actually still haven't see QoS because I'm rather afraid to be let down. I was rather mortified after hearing the opening song in advance and didn't bother going to see the movie because I was already disappointed. It's bad to let the theme song kill it for me but after hearing from my normal peers how bad it was pretty much told me it wasn't worth seeing. I'm sure one of these days I'll sit down and watch it... with a couple martinis in hand going in with no expectations. -{

    I didn't like CS the first time I saw it but I think it was so different from what I was used to. But after reading the novel and then watching the movie again I finally understood what they were trying to do with the Reboot. I learned to appreciate the movie a lot more than before.

    I find visiting AJB refreshing because sometimes it's really hard to find other die hard fans who bring to the table a lot of dedication and opinions. Sometimes it gives me new things to ponder on :D

    :)) In many ways you're lucky lilusako,
    As you'll of read so many bad reviews of QOS ( Many from me ) it
    probably will be better when you do get to watch it. :)) Although I
    do agree with you the Theme song is awful. :# Not many seem to
    like it except Sir Miles, who must be a big Alicia Keys fan. :D
    Lots of things to ponder with AJB, It was pointed out to me, ( which
    I'd missed on viewing ) that the end of QOS mirrors the start of CR. -{
    with AJB you always find out something new. :D

    Very interesting read! in my opinion QOS totally fails on the action front with the exception of the opening PTS chase,knife fight and Tosca shootout, all the other action scenes were obviously atrociously edited and lacked any excitement or finesse. Where QOS excels and where my love of the film lies is in its quieter moments, like Bond on the plane with Mathis, Bond and Camille in the sinkhole,Bond holding Camille as she has flashbacks during the fire and of course the end scene. Its these scenes i believe where the film comes alive and makes up for the rest.

    I agree Thunderpussy, it's okay to be a passionate fan, but not to where we get into deriding others on a personal level. We are talking about a fictional spy here - not about someone's mother. It's all about entertainment and respecting other's opinions. I try to be as objective as I can in my posts and keep to facts. I do have my own opinions at times but when it comes to some topics some consider sensitive I try to remind readers it is just my opinion and not in some way fact.

    Getting off topic a bit I noticed in your finished post that the structure of your sentences and paragraphs got chopped up badly when finally posted - even though you probably filled out your sentences completely from one side of the message window to the other as I do. Mine continually do that, and yet I noticed this does not happen with most members. Does anyone know why this happens?

    As to QOS, I was let down from CR for a number of reasons. First, it wasn't based on any Fleming story or even used any scenes from Fleming's writing. This is and always will be a large handicap in the films
    from now on. Though they try and put Bond in a story they believe Fleming would write, they usually miss the mark and in this instance they really missed it. The water plot was really weak. Though the revenge story was a riff on the plot of his short story FAVTAK (and used in FYEO)
    that was about it. Second, I have to put a lot of the blame for this weak entry on Craig and Forster. Craig, because he was a fan of the director and recommended him, and Forster himself, because he didn't really seem to understand how the Bond films work. His approval of the editing alone should ban him from making action films - he also had only a third of the amount of time to do it it than it normally took. The script itself was shoddy because with the impending writer's strike, they had only the "bare bones" of a script and Craig and Forster ended up rewriting a lot of scenes between them, with many decisions being made on the fly and at the last second. How one plans and writes a film ends up on the screen. If it's rushed it shows.
