It seems almost de riguer to slate this film, along with DAF. I almost feel protective about this great film I watched as a kid. What's not to like? A young Roger Moore, two amazing Swedish girls, Bernard Lee at his grumpiest best, one of the best villains and one of the best Barry scores.
Stop the whining, it's just a fun film!

THANK YOU!!!! -{
+1.... except it's far from the best Barry score. That still leaves the score one of the best Bond scores though!
Althoigh I do remember reading in a post from NP, that Barry only had nine weeks to write the whole score, or some short time. So I'd say given the setbacks he did a great job.
"I've been informed that there ARE a couple of QAnon supporters who are fairly regular posters in AJB."
That he did, and I'm not knocking it- I'm just saying that there are better ones around (OHMSS, YOLT, TB, GF...) and it's not anywhere near his best. Great tracks ("Hip's Trip", "Let's Go Get 'Em"), great Bond film (esp Christopher Lee, whose Scaramanga is IMHO one of the top 007 villains), and it doesn't deserve the slagging it gets. Sure, there are weak points (Britt Ekland) but any film, let alone any Bond film, has them.
I think you'll find, Alvin and the chipmonks 2. Has no faults and is a masterpiece. ) much better than that Avatar rubbish.
But yes I agree not his strongest score, -{

I love the MWTGG even though I think its kinda terrible. The soundtrack is amazing, the slide whistle (John Barry's idea) was stupid & he agreed later it was a mistake. It feels rushed and clunky...and Roger Moore doesn't look like he's having a good time which I blame on Guy Hamilton who was pushing him to be more Connery like which just doesn't mesh with his portrayal from Live & Let Die. It's also unnecessary long. But its exactly what a sequel to a successful movie ends up being kinda more of all the stuff people supposedly liked and less of what was criticized. Kinda how QOS had tons of action and ended up being the shortest Bond movie (but LOOOOngest seeming) because all the critics complained that CR was way too long and had so little action.
Watched this in the cinema when it was released. From the poor PTS being just a rip off of the FRWL PTS (including the HUGE plot foreshadowing of Moore's wax figure) to the wince inducing theme song to the use of a miniature Odd Job (complete with bowler hat) to the ridiculous plot exploitation of a global energy crisis that turned out to be just a geo-political game, then throwing in the slapstick action scenes and the (ho-hum) villain in his giant lare (again), to the pandering to the audience by bringing in the Pepper character - I sank lower and lower in my seat through the screening and never felt more depressed until they released AVTAK. The other thing that always amazed me was that as great an actor as Lee is, he placed himself in a great number of poor films and roles. Also having him portray some foreign villain, yet not changing his manner or accent - which to me came across as a character who seemed as though he were actually an MI6 alumni - made his role seem even less convincing. I have not seen this film in years, and I just can't bring myself to watch it, even when it's on the telly. I certainly would never own a copy of it. Yes, I wish they would remake it in the future.

While I can understand your POV, I own it; I even recently upgraded it, and I have a good old time EVERY time I watch it. But I admit, it's mainly nostalgia, Meddings & Barry that make it work for me. :007)
I agree with your reasons as to why TMWTGG is such a disappointment. It definitely had promise, and I concur that Lee is a real highlight, although I think he could have been used better. AVTAK is my least favorite Roger Moore Bond film, and TMWTGG is next.
If you mix calcium carbonate with hydrochloric acid whilst carrying out incomplete combustion on magnesium sulphate, the results will show that AVTAK is better than TMWTGG.

BUT, if you induce a quantum flux introducing chronoton particles, TMWTGG rises above AVTAK.
BUT......if you watch AVTAK or TMWTGG immediately after viewing Casino Royale '67, you will find them both to be excellent Bond films by comparison. That's as far as I'll go. )
I just saw TMWTGG on TV today and I realized its a very good movie up until the karate scene and then it just gets kind of ridiculous.
1: Casino Royale 2: Goldeneye 3: Skyfall 4: Octopussy 5: Goldfinger 6: Tomorrow Never Dies 7: The World Is Not Enough 8: The Living Daylights 9: From Russia With Love 10: The Spy Who Loved Me

Haha well, we're getting a little more advanced now!
In all seriousness, I like TMWTGG... It had some great things going for it. Christopher Lee obviously one of them. I actually prefer it to TSWLM (but not to AVTAK)

Actually after the flying car takes off, the tone changes significantly until Scaramanga is done.
I was very surprised yesterday how serious Moore played the part on the island.
Had remembered it very differently.

Dalton - the weak and weepy Bond!
This review, published in Cinefantastique 4:1 1975, expressed the feelings of many people at the time the film was released:
The top 7 Bond films: 1) Dr No. 2) From Russia With Love. 3) Thunderball. 4) On Her Majesty's Secret Service. 5) For Your Eyes Only. 6) The Living Daylights. 7) Licence to Kill.
An interview with Christopher Lee about the film, from the same issue of Cinefantastique:

Yes, since Thunderball!!
I can't take a critic who obviously has been missing everything for over 10 years seriously.
And the second critic, I don't even bother. Using the Dracula clichee in the second sentence of his headline is as daft as some journalists naming Connery as " Mr Bond"
These sheets show only one thing: Tabloids back then have not been better than they are today 8-)

Hi Mr Osato. Ill be in Hong Kong next month also! I'm planning on visiting some of the Bond sites from TMWTGG (like the dragon garden), DAD (I have a very nice room in one of the hotels near the harbour) and SF (will be spending 2 nights in Macau).
Sorry for the late reply, just noticed this. i will be in HK from August 15-18. Feel free to join me some Bond sites. I am a Dutchman also btw

There is very much eye candy with it and I am glad having chosen it.
Next was Octopussy and tonight Dr. No.
I was surprised about how serious Roger played the role when being on the island - and in general - some risen-eyebrow moments aside
Barrys score is admittedly one of his weakest ( maybe THE weakest), Lee and the swedish girls are a joy to see -{
