Not massively interested so will probably lie low and check in here very occasionally as I don't anticipate that this view will be shared or welcomed by many as any 'dissent' from the majority view gets pretty short shrift around here.
Bye for now.
Hey zaphod, you can't be serious!
We need you here and there is space for EVERY opinion - even if someone claims that Dalton made 2 decent movies
.....and, alas, even if someone who compares Daniel Craig to a sewer rat!
Dalton made Bond films that were more than decent and better than any Bond since. This is a fact, and common knowledge among those in the know.
The villain Silva in SKYFALL compares himself and Bond to trained rats in two monologues. Then they are shown chasing each other through underground tunnels, just like the rats in his monologues. Didn't you see the movie? or weren't you paying attention?
The top 7 Bond films: 1) Dr No. 2) From Russia With Love. 3) Thunderball. 4) On Her Majesty's Secret Service. 5) For Your Eyes Only. 6) The Living Daylights. 7) Licence to Kill.

You finally have a point, it was actually Silva who provided that analogy about Bond in SF (although based on some of your posts, it's not difficult to believe that you feel that way about Daniel Craig). But then you had to blow it with this line:
"Dalton made Bond films that were more than decent and better than any Bond since. This is a fact, and common knowledge among those in the know."
Do you really expect me to take seriously a guy who purports to be able to dictate to the rest of us what's FACT based on his opinion? Seriously????? Unless, of course, you just say things like that to get attention. I hope that's it, because if you actually believe that you've got real problems.
Dalton made Bond films that were more than decent and better than any Bond since. This is a fact, and common knowledge among those in the know.
No, that's an opinion. You're perfectly entitled to it but it is not a fact.
But, Barbel, don't you see we've all been brainwashed into thinking Skyfall was a good film? Indeed, Barbara Broccoli has figured out how to con us into believing a horrible movie is great; to make us all spend our hard-earned money on multiple viewings, on the Blu-Rays, the soundtrack CDs, and other bric-a-brac; to blackmail Oscar and BAFTA voters into nominating the film for multiple awards; to force the critics to praise it to the skies? My God, man, put the tinfoil on your head and you'll be able to see the truth!
Glad to have a confirmed date to look for but truly wish it wasn't more than two years away. On the bright side, at least it gives me extra time to save for more wardrobe!

Lets just take in the good news. A new Bond film is on it's way
I kinda feel left out now that I'm not "in the know", because I thought there were plenty of subsequent Bond films as good, if not better than, Dalton's two. For me there are more interesting themes and subtext in Goldeneye, Casino Royale and Skyfall than in The Living Dylights, which is a pretty straightforward, LALD style adventure- IMO.
Anyway, I digress.
Between Casino Royale and Skyfall there was a six year gap. If you look at how Connery aged in the same period - from say Thunderball to Diamonds are forever; or if you look at how Moore aged between roughly TMWTGG and For Yor Eyes Only; you will see the same ageing. It's just that there are fewer films made in the same period now so hd ageing is more noticeable. Get over it.
Yes it's too long a gap but I'd rather have a good film and a long wait than the alternative...
I know that Mendes did a good job, and SF was highly successful etc etc, but the producers not settling for anyone else but him is silly as there are many great directors out there that would probably love to direct it. And because of this, we now have another long wait! 2015?! X-(
In my opinion, this is a mistake. But, maybe I'll be proven wrong and be blown away by bond 24.... but I doubt many people will, because SF has set the bar so high, and now everyone is going to have ridiculosly high hopes for bond 24, especially with it being the same director.
And yes, this would probably make it Craig's last bond film too. Shame, as I wanted him to do 5.
I honestly can't believe that the producers are willing to delay it all just to get mendes back.... whatever happened to the notion that "bond is bigger than the actor?" Surely this can also be applied to "the bond franchise is bigger than the director". Yes Mendes is good, but so are hundreds of others.
I doubt this will be the last film for Craig. Again, I think we all have to take a step back and look past Bond 24. Logan is going to be the writer and it was originally said that 24 & 25 would be a 2 part story. If this is the case and they are keeping much of the supporting cast in terms of villains and allies, then there is no reason that they shouldn't film the two movies back to back, much like the LOTR movies. I would be very surprised if Bond 25 doesn't come out by 2017. That would mean a movie every 2.5 years. I don't think that is such a big deal over the 2 year time frame from the 70's and 80's.
I would agree any more than three years would be ridiculous. But lets trust the producers who have put 2 very strong movies together in the last 6 years and the one mediocre film was released in two years.
I hope David Arnold gets to do the music, rather than Thomas Newman. Not putting any money on that, though.
I, too, would like to have Arnold do the score. He's the next best thing to Barry, in my opinion.

It would be nice if they film B24 &B25 together, kind of like what Peter Jackson did with the LotR movies. Then they could edit as needed, Craig would fulfill the 2 movies he has left and then we can get B26, in 2020.
Some people would complain even if you hang them with a new rope

Amazing how quickly as thread can become a jolly mess!
Ok, first of all. Oct 2015? Not bad. I have had to wait a lot longer for other films. (Star Wars, Star Trek, Finding Nemo 2, and Stargate still hasn't happened). Plus the Bond films are usually big, complicated monsters in production and cost. All of these things mean time is needed to prepare and sort out. Look at the three Mr Craig films. All have product placement which requires negotiation and deal breaking, locations all over the shop (Skyfall had problems with India which was dropped, and Scotland which was altered) and a heap of other things to contend with. The script is certainly the backbone of the film which makes it or breaks it. However, on something like this, everything else has to be built around it.
As to Mr Craig, he looks great! When he was first announced - Speedboat, floppy hair, life jacket) I thought oh no, what have they done? - Cast the best contender they could and surprised everyone, much to my own delighted surprise. I can easily see Mr C doing the next two films and doing a great job. I'm proud he is the actor playing Bond as I now match the character' s age. More or less.
Mendes, Logan and co? Skyfall is an enjoyable film, but I think it could be improved on in places. I am keeping an open mind. Two things I would like. 1) Leave the introspective soul searching mumbo jumbo behind. 2) Newman's score was flat and uneventful to me. I really hope David Arnold comes back as I love his music and it feels like a better fit to Bond.
Welshboy your post No 38? Completely agree!
This is Thunderbird 2, how can I be of assistance?
I think it's good news. Daniel Craig will be 46 next year but I don't think he will be too old. He certainly deserves a chance to do the next one after how good his performance in Skyfall was.
Skyfall, whether you liked it or not, was a massive hit and made lots of money. If the option to keep everyone together for Bond 24 was available then the producers were never going to turn it down. As they say "If it's not broke, don't fix it"
I agree that 3 years isn't the most ideal time to wait but that's just modern day film making, it's different to the 60's/70's. Plus, I'd rather they spend more time on the film and it be of a better quality.
I also find it interesting how they say Logan and Mendes have thought of an "Extraordinary follow up to Skyfall". Would suggest the plot has already been drafted. I hope it's better than the one in Skyfall, or at least a plot with less holes in, for me that was the film's only downside.

Good news! A few years gap might actually be what keeps the series alive... A fully developed script, time for quality casting etc. and an audience that is hungry for Bond. And as much as I respect and like David Arnold's work, Newman's score for Skyfall was a pleasant one in my humble opinion - wouldn't mind more of that either.

Dalton - the weak and weepy Bond!
Wasn't it that Kleinman was big buddies with Mendes and his personal composer of choice?
I doubt that we will hear Arnold's tunes as long as Mendes directs though I agree with your hopes to see Arnold back one day -{

I'm sure Kleinman will be back to do the titles though.

My sentiments exactly. I'd love to see Arnold back doing the score. I guess we will have to see what happens.
