Has being a Bond fan influenced you, in whole or in part, to stay fit?

Watching Bond get older (in the forms of Connery, Moore, and Brosnan) has, I think, subconsciously and consciously caused me, at least in large part, to stay at a consistent weight. Though I have no desire to emulate Bond's inability to remain in a stable relationship, nor his penchant for killing bad guys, I have however seemed to have taken on a body-consciousness based on images from some Bond movies. At 53, nearly six feet, and a somewhat stable 160 lbs, I guess that makes Brosnan's Bond my physical type here.
Sure, a lot of us old timers have Bruce Lee to thank for our intro to Martial Arts & that type of fitness, but he sadly didn't make it to older age for us to use as an ageing role model.
And anyway, he was shorter than me. :))

So, kids, adults, older kids, what's YOUR take on this? :D
Which Bond are you, physically?
For the ladies, which Bond Girl are you?
Or are you Jaws, Nick Nack, M (male or female) or someone else from the neck down?
Dalton & Connery rule. Brozz was cool.

To a certain extent, yes, being a Bond fan (and a spy fan in general) has helped influence me to get and stay fit. I think that fantasy is an overlooked part of motivation, and in fact wrote a blog post about it, which you can find here:
    http://www.agentintraining.com/2013/04/finding-real-life-inspiration-from.html

    Relevant Bondian excerpt:
Let's say you're a James Bond fan. I certainly am. Face it, you never will be James Bond. But you can be a little bit more Bond-like. Maybe, like me and all the others who Googled "Daniel Craig workout," you watched Casino Royale and got inspired to get into better shape. Perhaps you are impressed with 007's foreign language skills and decide to learn a second language. Or maybe you go back and read Ian Fleming's original novels, learn that Bond trained in Judo, and find a dojo to train at. Getting into shape, learning a new language, and taking up Judo won't turn you into James Bond. But perhaps you'll be about 10 percent Bond, which is better than when you started. Isn't that better than zero percent?
It was partially because of Daniel Craig that I started integrating more bodyweight work—chins, push-ups—into my fitness regimen, with great results.

As to which Bond I am physically… It would either be Dalton or GE-era Brosnan. I'm very lean at 6'3", 175 lbs. Alas, any resemblance ends at the hairline. There I'm more Jason Statham.

PS: For what it's worth, Jason Bourne was also a huge influence, leading to my passion for Filipino martial arts:

    Like that's NOT cool... :)) B-)
    And Kali & Escrima rock!
Back on topic though, isn't it good to be able to simply touch your knee to your head? And to have Bond, Bruce Lee or Jason Bourne (or Statham) in part to thank for that is a fun extra IMO.

At 6 feet and 160 lbs, you are exactly the same size as Fleming's description of Bond in FRWL. Lucky you ! I'm 47, 5'10", and around 180 lbs. I guess I should consider Craig a physical role model, but I don't. I would rather just be slimmer because I like the way clothes look on a lean male body. The kind of body I want would be a Fleming Bond body; Tall, slim, and a flat stomach. Like lazenby in OHMSS. I would also like to be stronger as well.
Despite having a wonderful home gym, I don't lift often enough. My main workout is my twice a week Karate class that I've been doing for years.
Bruce did have a wonderful physiche, but to get abs like him would take an insane amount of dieting.

To get abs like Lee had there at 31 for a person at 31 is near impossible. :))

Not to sidetrack the thread, but i went to HK last summer and visited many Bruce locations: His house, The Enter The Dragon beach, the ocean terminal where he posed for some of his most famous publicity pictures. Even though I'm a Karate guy, I'm a big Bruce fan ! Of course there's the Bond connection as well..........The scheduled meeting with Lazenby on the day he died....

Kyokushin...........Osu !!! We actually have a Bond connection....When Connery was in Japan making YOLT, our style's founder, Mas Oyama, had Connery at Honbu (headquarters) and made him an honorary Black Belt. When Bond is at the Ninja training castle, there's a bunch of Kyokushin guys doing Karate moves and breaking objects. I believe Oyama was some kind of technical advisor for the film....I can't remember. It's really a great style. Oyama believed that the non contact training of traditional Karate was weak, so he incorporated full contact sparring. Our style basically looks like kickboxing with gi's, but we still do the kihon and katas of traditional Japanese Karate. Next year is the 50th anniversary of the style ! Ohhh......another Kyokushin connection is Dolph Lundgren (seen for a few seconds in AVTAK). He's a BB in our style....he fought for Sweeden in the 1979 World Championship

When I was younger sure, did years of martial arts, working in snorkling for the days I Wasn't training. But that was long ago, now I'm a couch potato, walking the dog is about as active I get. :))

I have become more active and trying to stay physically fit as my obsession with Bond continues. Like chris said, I have no intention of following some of his other less healthy characteristics, but staying fit is one. I'm at an age where it isn't too difficult to start getting back into shape, but it certainly isn't easy :)

What about doing your katas or forms once a day? Even that would put you back in some kind of non-potato shape! :D
