British comedy/comedians I find are the most subtle and clever. I'm sure most have seen or at leat heard this quote from Billy Connolly but if not: 0:47 is the clincher.

    It's hilarious! :))

Plus he was in Columbo so he certainly gets a thumbs up from me!

Is that the man who once said when he was in the army someone broke wind to which he replied "Captain who?"

Haha yes that is indeed him.

Most of his stuff is in YouTube. Such an intelligent man. A shame he's no longer with us.

I remember listening to an LP of one of his live performances in the seventies & enjoyed it immensely (that is the where I heard the 'Captain who' line & still remember it after all these years!). He wasn't known in the UK.

Yeah I know what you mean. I tell most people and they say: "Who?"

+1 A great silent comedian. I watched the episode where he drives his car from a chair on the roof. I also watched the one where he gets a new telly and he ends up taking all his clothes off to dress up a chair to get a decent reception.

I've just recently discovered Mick Miller, a Liverpudlian old style stand-up comedian who is very funny:

Here's his most famous sketch - the hilarious "Drunk announcer doing the Noddy show on the radio":

and at the Royal Variety Performance in 2011:

Saddened to read on Twitter that Chubby Brown is hanging up his patchwork suit. He's had a brilliant career making people laugh. Hope he enjoys his retirement. He deserves it.

Chubby is an old fashioned " Fat mother in law" and "blue" comedian.
I had several of his DVDs and audio CDs and think there's room for
    All kinds of comedians. {[]
