I'm hoping the haggard look was more for the story aspect...(getting wasted, getting over a couple of nasty shootings etc) and the fresh look from CR returns.
Me, too, Lexi -- I've never been bothered by Craig's "cragginess," as Connery was just as craggy, but Craig's face seems to show when he's tired a lot more than most people. In some shots in SF he looks really puffy and droopy, while in others he seems like he got a good night's rest. It doesn't help when they film him in bright light, as his hair and eyebrows wash out and all that's left is the lines.
In what film does Connery look "craggy" to you? Just curious.
Pretty much all of them. He has just about as many lines and furrows on his face as Craig does, even when Connery was younger. But Connery has the benefit of darker and more handsome features, and, to me, it looks like they put a lot more makeup on Connery in the early Bonds than they do on Craig.

I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree on this one, because I don't think Connery looks 'craggy" in any of his Bond films, except perhaps DAF. And even in DAF he obviously looks older, but to me that's not the same as "craggy". When I hear "craggy", what comes to mind is worn-out, disheveled, unkempt, etc. Connery doesn't appear that way to me.

We're just using the words a little differently -- the second time for me this week! I meant rugged, lined rather than disheveled or unkempt.

I see. Well in that case I'd say Connery was quite rugged.
I think the CR hairstyle makes him look younger, which is much needed at this stage. I couldn't help but think he looked like a grandad in the casino scene of Skyfall...
Even I have come to the conclusion that poor old DC does take a hell of a lot of Stick.
He's not what I consider the "definitive" Male Model Bond, but You can't keep fighting the
fact that Many Women find him sexy as hell.

Oh Yeh...but I also think he isn't particularly photogenic....however, as much as I love him...and defend him to death, I do think he can look pretty haggard. Perhaps when he gets back into training he will perk up a bit...

I love the guy and my girl thought he was one sexy Bond, until she saw him in person. Having long hair and not being in great sharp probably took away a bit, but his face is having issues. Here he is about to sign my autograph.
Of course she is a fan, just was disappointed that he didn't live up to the image in the flesh. We were watching Casino Royale last night as we are redoing our house and getting decoration tips from M's apartment. She actually "sighed" out loud when DC came on the screen. Here she is waiting for DC after Betrayal in NYC

What did you think of Craig's performance? Although the reviews for the play are somewhat mixed, Craig's performance seems to be considered the best. I'm asking because we're planning a family trip to NY between Christmas and New Years and my wife and daughter are both demanding to see the play. Based on the ticket prices I may have to take out a mortgage on the house.

The play was not that great, both in subject matter and in they way it resolves (or doesn't) It is also very short. The acting is superb!
Rafe Spall gets most time on stage and is fantastic. DC and RW are also great, but the play for me wasn't a homerun for me. It was a great chance to see Daniel in the flesh and for me it that was worth the price. I also managed to somehow get him to autograph my Playbill which was fantastic.
Gotta ask Paperbill is he as short in real life as he looks onscreen )
I am 5'11 and he is shorter than me. The first time seeing him I would have guessed 5'9, or 5 81/2. the second time he seemed taller, around 5 10ish, which would lead me to believe he wears lifts in his shoes.
I also like this look. Maybe it's not 'of this time'. Too classic maybe... but it looks suave and cool.
Does anybody know why they didn't choose this for CR? Too oldish for a new/younger bond?

You got me there! But in that case I would have chosen Zardoz. It's hard for me to imagine Connery looking "craggier" than that! )

Is that the North Face or the South Face?

I thought his body looked better in SF and QOS than it did in CR.
