Moonraker: There is so much to love

To celebrate my new 70'' TV, I had MR on Bluray last night.
Haven't seen it for a while, I was surprised how good it was.
Forget for a moment the bad rearprojecting scenes and the crappy gondola jump - the movie is a masterpiece.
Keep in mind that we are in 1978 and it's not a Lucas production, it's simply spectacular.
Moores performance is not as comedic as I have remembered it, Corinne Clery is simply stunning - I don't rank Chiles very high. Don't like her forced smiels and such.
Drax is exquisite and the first meeting where Bond and him are unwelcoming at best is gorgeous.
The castles in France and the palazzi in Venice great the action superb - though they should have ended the gondola chase before it converts into a hovercraft.
Locations are beautiful, the space station interiors are stunning and so are the shots from the Moonraker 6 in front of the moon.
The laser battle lasts 5 minutes - was state of the art back then. What would you expect? Machine guns in space?
Now to the highlight: The Score!!
IMO Barry's best - the space music can't be done better and I love the Moonraker song so much better than Goldfingah!
If you accept for one moment that the plot with the space station is reality, you'll enjoy the execution of the story and the pure eyecandy that the film offers!
I had great 2 hours yesterday! -{

I hope you had a decent home cinema system too -{
So...which tv did you buy ?
They only have 19' tvs
I went with a Sharp LC70LE835.
Great toy though. Waiting until I am getting a deal on the B&W soundbar, my wife does not allow the big soundsystem in the living room - she took it really hard with the 70
Dalton - the weak and weepy Bond!
As we have a very bright room with a lot of windows, I needed a matte display, so plasmas where out of the game.
And I did not want to spend nearly 10k on other 70' plus alternatives, the Sharp is not bad either. I'd chose an average 70' over an excellent 60' everyday.
The only thing good from Bose is the QC15, all their soundsystems are overpriced.
And Cathy would kill me, if I installed rear speakers here - so the soundbar is the only way to go.
Dalton - the weak and weepy Bond!
But it needs replacing now...:D
Such a shame about the pigeon and gondola PLUS Jaws and Dolly. Apart from that the remaining 2 hours are fab.
That's true now...but as a kid I really enjoyed them...
for the first time. Part of my childhood and I for one still love it. Simply Over the top
escapist fun, sometimes that's all I want. )
Although I'm known for not liking the pew pew lasers, like bumtoys says it only lasts 5mins (words he's surely used before) and its not all that bad.
Who knows, maybe one day DAD will become the new MR and finally become accepted by the majority? )
That camera prop was crap though.

Yes!!!! The larger the Tv's start getting the better the reputation for the Masterpiece that is Moonraker.
Dalton - the weak and weepy Bond!
100% agree, it's one of the top Bond scores.
There's a Barry quote (which I'll paraphrase) about the title song- "if I had known that Shirley would be the singer* I'd have written a song especially for her" so it might have ended up Moon-rakah! Glad it didn't.
* the singers considered before Shirley Bassey included Johnny Mathis, Kate Bush, and Frank Sinatra.
" I don't listen to hip hop!"
The sillyness ruins it a bit, as with most Moore movies. But overall, still an enjoyable experience! I envy your TV by the way. 70 inch. Damn, must be great to have such a TV!
1. Connery 2. Craig 3. Brosnan 4. Dalton 5. Lazenby 6. Moore
Interesting info, Barbel.
Kate Bush - would be interesting how that'd sounded.
Re the MR score, I am amazed how a change in tempo can make such a huge difference.
I absolutely love the main song, the dance version for the end titles is really crap imo.
When I was younger, I did not regards Barry so much. He's only creating 1-3 different themes and repeats them on and on in different tempi, instruments and contexts. I guess that you music guys call that fuge.
In my old years, I enjoy that more and more -{
Still love Bill Contis FYEO track because of the huge variety of themes.
Re. the TV, it's odd how fast you get used to the large size, I keep on telling my wife, that I should have gone with the big one
