Detailed Rankings

I thought it would be interesting to rank the Bond Films from best to worst, and then give a couple of sentences to explain/defend a films position.....please no plain rankings as there are many other threads for that....Ill demonstrate...

1) Casino Royale
This is my favourite film, I dont think its necessarily the best one but is my top. Craig is so good, Vesper is complex and beautiful, Solange is exotic, Mathis is cool, Felix is cooler, Le Chiffre is a brilliant calculating villain...the locations are beautiful, the theme tune is good, the PTS is good and the plot is fast and unpredictable....i enjoy every moment of it!

2) From Russia with love
Now Connery is my favourite Actor to play Bond, and this is a fine performance. But the plot is what makes it for me. Tatiana is very appealing, but with Red Grant actually having Bond on the back foot for large portions of the film is very interesting. I think FRWL could stand alone as a film in its own right, and would be the one i'd use to introduce anyone to the series. Also not as formulaic as some.

3) Thunderball
I dont know why i love this film particularly, but i really do. The character are all played so well from Bond to Largo to Domino and of course Fiona Volpe. Is criminally underratted in my view.

4) Goldfinger
The Classic Bond film. From start to finish it is just smooth. The plot is good and Goldfinger is one of my favourite villains...one thing lets it donw though.....pussy galore just winds me up. Dont see what all the fuss is about.

5) The living Daylights
I Only recently discovered this and now know what alll the fuss is about. Dalton is amazing, and the film is utterly superb from start to finish....i dont like Kara and the Villains are weak, but that henchman is a beast, and i was totally gripped which is unusual for a bond film, as some of them i would comfortably go and make a coffee and leave it playing.....its may be because its a new film for me, but i think it has staying power in my top 5.

So thats just my top 5, as i need to go out now, but i will come back and complete.....i will however reveal my number 23...

23) You only live twice

I really struggle to sit through this. Sooooo boring. A brilliant soundtrack does not a Bond film make!

Just as I was swooning in admiration of your excellent choices, you had to go and rank YOLT dead last! Oh the pain of seeing such a promising start go off the rails! :)) (Just kidding - I realize that quite a few fans think of YOLT as one of the lesser Bonds, but it is a favorite guilty pleasure for me.)

    I'm very curious to see your complete list and I suspect, as you do, that we will have quite a bit in common. But even if we don't, I'm looking forward to your posts and contributions to the group! -{

I posted mine months and months ago in the official ranking thread with detailed explanations. Since this seems to become a more propper thread for it, I took the liberty to repost it here, and update it a bit while I'm at it!:

(This is a top 23 instead of a top 5 though!)

    #23 Diamonds Are Forever
To me, this is the Bond movie I enjoy watching the least. It’s kind of a shame, because I think Diamonds had great potential to be a great follow up to OHMSS. It could have been a great revenge story of Bond trying to avenge the death of his wife. While there could still be a side story for the whole Diamond smuggling. What we got however was Blofeld in drag, some really campy humor and a Sean Connery who seems to be very far from the suave and sexy Bond we first saw in Dr. No. There is this scene of Connery lying in bed with an ashtray on his chest. Where’s the whole glamour in that?! And there were some really embarrassingly bad special effects in this one as well. When the satellite was shooting the laser from out of space and destroys all of the nuclear missile’s it all looks like a complete B movie! And then there's the car stunt they fucked up.... Atleast Plenty O’ Toole brought two upsides to the movie…

    #22 Quantum of Solace
I personally felt this movie was a complete mess. And yet, much like Diamonds are Forever, this movie yet again had some great potential! I could have been an epic follow up up to Casino Royale. Somehow it failed to be that. I hear a lot of people complaining on the fast editing in this one, I agree that it is a problem, but it’s not really what ruined the movie for me. The problem was it’s story. I didn’t get it on first viewing and I believe I never had that happening before... It was about water and oil, revenge and Quantum and yet it seemed very hard to follow… When I heard there was a writers strike going on during production things started to make sense. Because it shows that there wasn’t much professional thinking into the plot of this movie, it has to rely on big action scene’s every 10 minutes. (Which aren’t that bad by the way.) The main villain was probably the worst villain in the franchise. His henchman Elvis was completely forgettable as well. Who ever remembers him? Daniel Craig’s acting was very solid though, he did his absolute best to make it work.

#21 On Her Majesty’s Secret Service
Probably the most controversially ranked on this list. Generally it is ranked at the very top and widly recognized as one of the best, if not the best, Bond movie. I simply do not seem to share that love for this movie. And I mentioned it a view times, I honestly wish I enjoyed it more than I do, but I simply don’t. First of all George Lazenby, why on earth did they cast him as James Bond? The guy isn’t even an actor, he only did some commercials in Australia. He isn’t even British! Imagine that happening nowadays! It is still beyond me that he ever got the part… Blofeld’s sceam of spreading a deadly virus over the world using beautiful girls to cause infertility seems like a really weird plan. And I never got how just destroying Pizz Gloria stopped that plan from still continuing. The beautifull girls where already spread around the world, and it always seemed like Blofeld could easily make a new command centre to still make that plan succeed anyway… I guess it's just me, but I never really got that... Dianna Rigg did an excellent job by the way, and the cinematography is magnificent. Bond shagging all of the beautiful women on pizz Gloria even though he is in a dedicated relationship with Tracy always seemed a bit weird to me as well. It’s Bondian, but still seems out of place here. Perhaps reading the novell lifts this one up for me. I do own it, but haven’t read it yet.

    #20 Die Another Day
This movie is generally ranked at the bottom of any list and I’m really no exception. It might be surprising to some that I ranked it above QOS and OHMSS. But that’s probably because the first hour of Die Another Day isn’t as bad. But we all know that riding a CGI tsunami and visiting an ice palace where an event is hosted by a Korean who now turned into a huge western idol with plastic surgery, just takes this a little bit to far for a Bond movie. Hale Berry had some embarrassingly bad moments as well. But she is still pretty hot to watch!

    #19 Live And Let Die
Always found this one though to rank. Roger Moore has a great debut as Bond, Jane Seymour is beautiful and the villain is pretty memorable. But yet, I never really got along with the whole voodoo theme to it. And the way Kananga was killed was just plainly ridiculous… There’s enough in this movie to like though, Bond tricking Solitaire into bed is so wrong, and yet so hilarious! It fits Roger Moore perfectly as well. The man is a genius. The boat chase was pretty impressive. J.W Pepper is annoying, but I can stand him enough I guess.. It’s a weird Bond movie with some likeable aspects.

    #18 A View To A Kill
Not really a strong Bond movie. The plot seems very “been there, done that” in some parts. Roger Moore really seems to old for the part in this one, especially when bedding the women, and he beds a lot of them in this one!! Christopher Walken is one of the reasons to watch this one. Grace Jones is creepy as hell, but yet seems to fit the Bond universe in some way. Stacey Sutton was annoying, but on a recent viewing I could stand her a lot better than I remembered. She does a better job than Denise Richards in a similar role. Roger Moore’s humor is always great, he still delivers the jokes the way he always did. “Whats serving, Whiskas?” Still miles better than George Lazenby could ever deliver a joke. All in all, it’s an enjoyable watch, but boring in some places.

    #17 Moonraker
Most people rank this one at the very bottom as well. But I think there’s plenty of stuff in it to like. All of the Ken Adams sets along with Derek Meddings’ brilliant miniature and special effects work really shows off here. It shows that this movie had a high budget, and it's a fiest to the eye! Especially the Blu ray version looks asstonishing! Of course Bond going into space really takes things to far and Jaws falling in love and turning side’s was pretty redicilious… But still, it’s an enjoyable watch.
    "I think he's attempting re-entry sir!"

    #16 Dr. No
The first one is an okay movie, which I think you have to cut some slack. The budget wasn’t really that high yet, but of course you can’t blame them on that. Some scene’s like the car chases are seriously dated and look really laughable right now. But still, there’s enough iconic stuff in this one to like. Of course Connery’s legendary introduction, along with of course Ursula Andress’s famous scene. Bond killing professor Dent in cold blood is probably my favorite part in the whole movie. The end climax was pretty weak though. It was the first of it’s kind and it still holds up pretty well, but luckily it spawned plenty of other movies I enjoy even more.

    #15 From Russia With Love
There isn’t really much wrong with this movie actually. I somehow just seem to enjoy a lot of other Bond movies over this one. It’s a very serious spy thriller, which is great, because the franchise doesn’t really have to much of the great spy thrillers. But yet, it still hasn’t quite found that Bond formula yet… I think all of the scene’s taking place on the Orient Express are the best. Kerim Bay was one of the best allies in the franchise, really likeable man. It’s pretty heartbreaking to know that he had cancer during production and desperately tried to finish his scenes… I also read the novell of FRWL and that really helped me appreciate the movie even more. In some ways, I almost dare to say the novell was even better than the movie.

#14 The Man With The Golden Gun
The movie felt a lot ‘smaller’ than most of the other Bond movies. But yet, I think this movie is pure guilty pleasure! I have always liked this one and I think that will never change. Christopher Lee is one of the greatest villains in the series. And probably is the strongest point to this movie. The plot keeps me entertained from start to finish, it’s simple and yet it works. Bond going up against the worlds greatest assassin. Throw him into some exotic locations and you have a fun little Bond adventure. If only they didn’t put that whistle sound over that great stunt… Such a shame…

    #13 Octopussy
Octopussy is another enjoyable watch all together. There’s a lot of typical Bond stuff in it, it doesn’t really take itself to seriously, but then again, neither does Roger Moore. Sneaking in on an island only inhabited by beautiful women in a crocodile suit seems so ridiculous on paper. And yet, somehow it works for this movie! (Even though he later escapes in the waters by swimming anyway…) The jokes are once again in true Roger Moore fashion. I always loved the way he used Kamal Khans fixed dices “It’s all in the whrist”. Got to love Roger Moore! One personal highpoint for me was that James Bond actually briefly drove an Alfa Romeo GTV in this one. As I am raised with a personal love for that brand, I always thought that was a very cool moment indeed. The Tarzan yell really shouldn’t have been there though…

    #12 The Living Daylights
Went up by some in my list actually. And that’s mainly due to Dalton’s terrific performance. He definitely understands the Bond of the books and I think he did a terrific job in bringing that to the screen. This is not your average Bond movie that you can put into a ‘template’. The story is more complex and coming after A View To A Kill, this really is a breath of fresh air. (Watching them all in order really makes you realise how fresh this one is after the Roger Moore era.) The villains are the only weak link in the movie and I think it kind of sinks in on the second half. Jeroen Krabbé, despite also being Dutch and despite even sharing the same name as me really wasn’t that good. I liked Kara a lot though, there seemed to be some genuine sparks between Bond and her here.

    #11 Tomorrow Never Dies
This is a typical Bond movie you can simply turn on and enjoy. It delivers all the stuff you come to expect from a Bond movie. In some ways the plot really feels like a Lewis Gilbert movie. There’s definitely nothing really new there. But it has some typical 90’ies action in it that I can really appreciate. Both the BMW and the bike scene are pure Bond entertainment. It has the problem of really sinking in once Bond and Wai Lin are on the stealth boat. But all together a solid Bond movie. I feel that this is one that you could easily show to someone who isn’t really a Bond movie, and he would simply enjoy it.

#10 The World Is Not Enough
I always find it hard to decide if I like TWINE better than TND, they always seem to rank very close for me. They tried to go for a more complex plot in this one, as TND, though being very entertaining has a very standard Bond movie plot. This one goes a little bit deeper. Acting wise, Pierce Brosnan really shines here. And growing up with him as James Bond, I’ve always been a fan of the way he portrays him. This movie really shows that he can act. Elektra King was a pretty interesting character. Renard had the potential to be far more intresting than they made him to be though. And Denise Richards was very unconvincing to say the least.. I would have preferred to see the Cigar girl from the opening credits. Damn was she hot! :D

    #09 Thunderball
A grand Bond adventure, definitely top 10 worthy in my book! I like how big they made this whole mission seem. Spectre stealing the nuke’s and all 00 agents are put on the job. Plots like that really seem to work well in the 60íes and I am a sucker for that! I also have to say that this movie probably had the hottest line up of Bond girls ever: Fionna Volpe is really hot and Paluzzi really made her intresting. Domino was extremely hot, one of the best looking Bond girls of all time. Hell, even Paula was hot! My only complaint would be the pacing and the long on draggin under water scene’s. And speeding up that final climax on the disco volante was pretty bad as well. Other than that, one of the all time greats!

    #08 You Only Live Twice
Yes, it has a villain in an hollowed out volcano stroking a cat, and I LOVE IT! This is prime 60’ies stuff. And in so many ways does this movie remind me of the Thunderbirds, a great show I grew up with. There’s so much to like in this movie, the Little Nellie was awesome, Tiger Tanaka was a really likeable alie, Donald Pleasance is by far my favorite Blofeld. Japan is a great location to take Bond too, though trying to turn Sean Connery into a Japanese man really didn’t work … Of course the plot was pretty over the top, but that’s pretty much Lewis Gilbert’s trademark. For some people this works, for some it doesn’t. For me, it does!

    #07 For Your Eyes Only
As a younger kid I didn’t really think much of this movie. Over the years I really come to appreciate this one. This is probably the first real spy thriller since From Russia With Love. And it proofed that Roger Moore could also pull of a serious Bond. It might be kind of controversial but I also liked the early 80’ies score, which some people think is terrible. I think it’s kind of catchy and suits the time it was made in. Melina Havelock was a pretty interesting character and Columbo almost was like a new Kerim Bay. Moore kicking the car of the cliff is badass, I only wish he was like this more often. The mountain climbing scene was really tense as well. Sheena Eastons title song is beautiful, one of the best in the franchise!

#06 The Spy Who Loved Me
Definitely my favorite Roger Moore movie, and by far the best movie of the 70’ies! This is Roger Moore’s Goldfinger, it has all the perfect ingredients for a solid ride of pure Bond entertainment! The Lotus Espirit is probably my favorite car in the entire franchise. Jaws is really classic and menacing here. (Unlike in Moonraker) Barbara Bach is hot! Roger Moore is in top form. The great ski jump is also something that I think no one can dislike. Nobody does it better!

    #05 Casino Royale
This movie is so refreshing coming after Die Another Day. In some ways it rescued the franchise. It’s strange how I come to like this movie so much over the years. I remember really disliking Craig when he was first announced to be the new James Bond. (“Come on, Bond can’t be a blond guy!” were my words…) Yet, this movie proofs me (and many others) completely wrong. This movie doesn’t rely on stunts, it can completely rely on Bond as a character again. Him falling in love with Vesper and in the end loosing her was very emotional and, to me, much better executed than the whole relationship between Bond and Tracy in OHMSS. (Come on, the guy just went shagging all the patients at the clinic on Pizz Gloria!) The poker scene was done extremely well in my opinion as well. There isn’t really much to dislike about this movie. This is truly where all the masterpieces come in!

    #04 Goldfinger
The quintessential Bond movie, the classic of all classics. Whatever you would like to call it. You can’t possibly call this movie overrated, because it truly deserves a top 5 spot in my opinion. This is where the Bond formula is found, it should forever be recognized as the Godfather of Bond movies. It has the DB5, oddjobs hat, the laser scene, the golden lady on Bond’s bed. This is a 24 carat masterpiece. Period.

    #03 Goldeneye
It might be sentimental value, but this is such a baddass Bond movie! I don’t think Bond has ever looked as good as Pierce Brosnan looks in this movie. On his debut he immediately convinced the world that he IS James Bond here. Bond going up against 006 is pretty clever, Xenia Onnatop is the best femme fatale the franchise ever saw. (Dutch pride :D) and I really liked the score for this movie as well. The industrial type of sounds really work well for Goldeneye. Judi Dench left a great impression as the new M as well. Much like Casino Royale rescued the franchise in 2006, Goldeneye did the same in ’95!

    #02 Skyfall
I've watched this one a view times now, I allowed it to sink in a bit more. I expected it to go down on my list now that the whole hype is over, but so far I haven't really changed my mind on it! Just the PTS alone proofed to me that this was a far better movie than QOS and over the course my expectations where far exceeded. This will go down in history as one of the best Bond movies the franchise ever saw. My only complaint was Sévérine dying so soon.. She was an interesting character and would have loved to see more of her. (Damn is Bérénice Marlohe hot!) The title song by Adelle is incredible as well! Can’t wait to buy this one on blu ray and watch it more!

    #01 Licence to Kill
It’s no secret to people on the forum that this is my all-time favorite Bond movie. It might not be as classic as Goldfinger, but it has all the elements I like in a movie and brings them together with Bond. I am a huge fan of crime type of movies, like for instance Scarface. Here, crime is brought together perfectly with Bond. We get one of the most interesting villains ever in Robert Davi’s Franz Sanchez. He is one of the main reasons this movie is so darn entertaining. Coming after the Roger Moore era where we saw Tarzan yells and clown costumes, now all of the sudden a drug barron comes in, feeding Felix Leiter to the sharks and letting his wife get raped! (presumably) Holy sh**t!! This guy means business! Bond taking his resignation and going on a personal vendetta works brilliant here. And the plot itself is done in such a clever way. It’s pretty impossible to go after Sanchez on your own. And yet, Bond being the professional almost succeeds into sniping him if the Chinese government didn’t get him. Later using Sanchez’s fetish for loyalty against him is very clever, he manages to break down Sanchez’s entire organisation by posing as an adviser for Sanchez, eventually you can even see Sanchez slowly turning paranoid and not trusting anybody anymore. (Even though everybody is indeed 100% loyal to him.) Other than a fantastic dark, entertaining and well written plot we also have plenty of typical Bondian action moments here. Like the water ski action scene, the final action scene with the trucks was really entertaining as well. Both Bond girls are great, (Yes Talisa Soto is great as well!) To me, this is the ultimate Bond entertainment!

    Here's my list for today, August 18th, 2013 :))

    #24 MR
Nice music, great locations, but Jaw's cartoon antics ruined it for me.

    #23 AVTAK
Not much really wrong with this one except that Moore had become just a tad too old...

    #22 NSNA
Great to see Connery again, but this film is a mess.

    #21 FYEO
Again, not much wrong apart from the silly PTS, Conti's bad score & Thatcher talking to a parrot. But Bibi should have been excised from the shooting script.

    #20 DAF
What style! Not much more than that, but Connery was having fun & Barry delivered one of his best scores.

    #19 DAD
What a mess... but in it is Brosnan holding it together for me, and Arnold too, with his score. Lots of gold in this mountain of muck IMO.

    #18 SF
Solid movie, but Craig's haircut & the Home Alone ending just hurt me.

    #17 TSWLM
One word: Fun. Big Bond, small score by Hamlish.

    #16 OHMSS
Overrated, but entertaining- people say that YOLT began the slide into OTT, but this film had its own 60's intensity, Batman.

    #15 GF
One person's classic is another person's *meh*; lots of great moments don't add up to perfection for me- Barry's score lulls many into thinking this is greater than it is IMO.

    #14 FRWL
Fine small Bond movie. No frills, no fat, just novel perfection. Slow in parts.

    #13 OP
The circus of Bond films; something for everyone & hugely entertaining!

    #12 TMWTGG
The strangeness of this flick is very cool IMO, I really dig it, man. :))

    #11 LALD
Great intro to Rog as Bond, Solitaire rocks, surprisingly excellent non-Barry score. Love the final shot.

    #10 CR
    Lean, mean Bond Machine!

    #9 QOS
    Even LEANER, MEANER Bond machine!

    #8 DN
Perfect (however limited in budget) intro to our hero here, love the girl, love the villain. Very Fleming.

    #7 GE
An overrated flick, it's great, but not THAT great. Lots of OTT moments & characters, but 006 vs. 007 makes the movie for me.

    #6 YOLT
Connery was bored, blah blah blah, so what? This was THE OTT Bond movie!! And Connery was mostly great in it anyway.

    #5 TWINE
    Dark Pierce. Flawed but fascinating.

    #4 TB
The best of Connery, the height of suave style, the most plainly physically amazing Bond girl.

    #3 TND
Bond in pain, Bond revenging, dark and at the same time wondrously OTT and funny, another this has it all Bond!

    #2 LTK
Did I say 'dark'? This is Bond unleashed.

    #1 TLD
    Fleming's Bond to near perfection.
Dalton & Connery rule. Brozz was cool.
    #1.TLD/LTK 2.TND 3.GF 4.GE 5.DN 6.FYEO 7.FRWL 8.TMWTGG 9.TWINE 10.YOLT/QOS

Time for an update to my list!

    23 - Die Another Day
I don't dislike this film. Hell, I even enjoy certain aspects of it. But as a bond film, it's the worst. Too much to say that's already been mentioned before, but to summarise, the CGI and slow-mo matrix-esque bits really take away from the film for me. Also I hate Jinx. I don't mind Gustav Graves, and actually think the scene where he kills his father is pretty strong. Good first half, but the film just gets too over-the-top overall.

    22 - Moonraker
Always been a low-ranker for me. What does it is the whole bond in space concept, and the super-race story. I actually like space - but bond in space? A bit too far. Add in laser fights and you get a pretty ridiculous bond film. Oh and there's the Jaws love scenes. On the plus side though, we have the amazing centrifuge scene. The cable cars scene is pretty good too, and the amazon temple hq is pretty damn cool.

    21 - Thunderball
Another film that has always ranked low for me. I have nothing really against it - other than I just find it a bit boring. Too much underwater stuff. Fiona Volpe however is a redeeming feature, and I really like the whole Angelo plastic surgery hijacking plane malarky.

    20 - Quantum Of Solace
I enjoy watching the film but I have to admit the story telling and editing wasn't executed greatly. Mystery is one thing, but I think they made it a step too vague. Most people I've spoken to don't fully understand what the film is about and I'm not surprised. On the other hand though, it has some cool scenes (particularly the burning building), isn't too long, and has Camille who's a pretty decent bond girl.

    19 - Tomorrow Never Dies
I used to hate Elliot Carver. But now I quite like him. I've grown to appreciate him as a homage to those over-the-top villains. This film has some great moments (I particularly like the free-fall, and especially like the scene where the giant Carver poster/banner is ripped). When it comes to comparing this to other bond films though, I just don't enjoy it as much as many of the others and it ends up being average really.

18 - The World Is Not Enough
Always ranked close with TND. I just think it has a slight edge, mainly because of the greatness of Elektra King. Maiden's tower scenes were good, as was the pipeline scene. Overall, an average entry.

    17 - Casino Royale
This film is very different, thus hard for me to rank among the others. In terms of bond it wasn't fully my cup of tea, however, I can appreciate how cleverly made the film was. Highlights were the poison scene and the torture scene.

    16 - Goldfinger
I know what you're all thinking.... but I like Goldfinger. Honestly I do. It's just that I prefer 15 others over it!

15 - From Russia With Love
It may be a bit slower, but I appreciate the story in this one. The train fight with Red Grant is the absolute pinnacle of the film. A good entry, although I still prefer many others.

14 - The Man With The Golden Gun
I'm of two minds with this one - On one hand it has an amazing villain, beautiful locations, a funhhouse, and I have lots of nostalgia with it. On the other hand, at times I feel that the film is uneventful - not much happening. And the slide whistle ruined one of the series' best stunts. J W Pepper shouldn't have returned either. With all that in mind, it ranks about here.

    13 - The Living Daylights
Another film I'm of two minds with - I love the whole Afghanistan section of the film, and the climatic fight with Necros on the net of the plane is just amazing. The main villains though are weak (although I've grown to appreciate Koskov as a 'weasel'), and I can't stand Kara Milovy. Overall a good film but a little forgettable.

12 - The Spy Who Loved Me
Moore's most overrated. Although it still has it's merits. I love the Egypt scenes. The Liparus and Atlantis scenes drag a bit though. But the model of Atalantis looks amazing. Stromberg is a weak villain, but he has one of the best villain introductions ever - where he kills the girl to classical music, then kills the two professors. Brilliant stuff. Also, the PTS is possibly the best in the series.

    11 - Diamonds Are Forever
This film is a bit underrated. The plot may be confusing, but I find the film to be fun, and overall very enjoyable to watch. Wint and Kidd are two of the best henchmen. I love the scene where bond is climbing atop the whytehouse. And I also love the moon buggy chase. The oil rig is a decent-enough climax, and Charles Grey's Blofeld is not as bad as I previously thought.

    10 - On Her Majesty's Secret Service
Strong film, and very memorable. The locations are what do it for me the most, and the great skiing scenes too. Lazenby is my least favourite bond, but at the same time he's not exactly bad. I find Draco however to be an extremely dated character with his chauvinistic attitude. Overall a great bond film, though Lazenby is the weak link.

9 - You Only Live Twice
One of Connery's best for me. It has lots to love. Great locations in Japan, Tiger is a good ally, the little nellie stuff is cool, and it has a volcano lair. It may be a little comic book-esque but I don't find it TOO over-the-top. The story is good and easy to follow. A very memorable film.

    8 - Dr No
Ends up as my favourite Connery film. I'm not surprised - this film was a sound introduction to the series. It may have been low in action, but I think it flows perfectly and works well. It's simple, yet effective. Honey Rider is the best bond girl of all. And the locations are very nice. The introduction of Dr Julius No is built up perfectly.

    7 - Goldeneye
This film pretty much has it all - great action, great villains, great girls (love Xenia), great locations. Not much else to say other than it was a great comeback film, and by far Brosnan's best.

    6 - Licence To Kill
My favourite of the two Dalton films. It may be different, and very gritty, but I think it worked really well. Sanchez is one of the series' best main villains. I really like Lupe (she should've been the main girl!), and there is lots of great action in the film, particularly the tanker chase. A lot more memorable than TLD.

    5 - Skyfall
Over a year on and this film is still as great as I previously thought. By far Daniel Craig's best, and Silva is the best villain in years. There was a lack of a bond girl, but the greatness of the Skyfall Lodge scenes make up for that. An amazing bond film, although, as it's quite epic, I have to be in the mood for it. Bond 24 will have to do well to top this.

4 - For Your Eyes Only
I'm sorry everyone, but my top 4 bond films are all Roger Moore films. I thought hard about it - but I just could not place anything above these top 4. So coming in at number 4, FYEO has pretty much everything. It's a dark horse of a film really, because it's rarely talked about either way, but whenever I watch it I always have a great time. Locque is such a cool henchman. The skiing scenes are great. The ice hockey fight was cool. The sharks scene is sadistic and effective. And the mountain-climbing at the monastery is excellent, and also beautiful locations-wise. Columbo is a brilliant character, and Melina is a decent-enough bond girl. Three films beat it though, because I thought some of the underwater stuff was a tad slow.

    3 - Octopussy
Yes it may be full of comedy - but it's just really fun and entertaining to watch. I almost see this film as an adventure film as well as just action - it reminds me of things like Indiana Jones. The locations are beautiful. And the circus stuff, with bond dressed as a clown trying to disarm a bomb, is ironic and brilliant. Very tense. Also, gotta love the knife-throwing twins.

    2 - A View To A Kill
Most underrated of the series. The first half of the film may be a tad slow, but the film really picks up in action from the city hall fire onwards. The fire, followed by the fire-engine chase, followed by the mine sequence, followed by the blimp and golden-gate bridge fight, is the single greatest consecutive sequence of events to ever grace a bond film for me - it's just so damn entertaining. I don't care what anyone says - AVTAK will always rank high for me, and every time I watch it I enjoy it so damn much. Oh, and Max Zorin is the best villain in the series.

1 - Live And Let Die
I actually don't talk about this film that often to say it's my favourite. But that's because a lot of it is to do with nostalgia I admit. LALD was the first bond film I ever saw - so it holds great memories for me. I love Baron Samedi and the whole Voodoo theme (gave the film another adventure-esque feel). Solitaire is one of my favourite bond girls. This is just a film that I find extremely fun to watch.

    The best list eva
    1) connery 2) dalton 3) craig 4) brosnan 5) moore 6) lazenby
