Why all the hate for Stacey Sutton

I watch AVTAK recently and thoroughly enjoyed it, despite its many shortcomings....but seriously why do people hate Stacy Sutton/ Tanya Roberts so much.
Ok i get that she is
1) a bimbo
2) very useless
3) annoying with her (james james dont leave me!)
4) miscast as a supposed geologist was it??

but.....

On looks alone she is smokin'. One of the top 10 for me id have said if we were just talking about a still photograph with no risk of hearing her speak.

But is she really as annoying as Jinx or Rosie Carver?
Is she as useless as Mary Goodnight or Kara Milovy?
Is she as miscast indeed as Christmas Jones?

I looked on the elimination game and she doesnt rank completely bottom of the pile, but she does seem to pick up more hate than any other BG on here....

So i guess im just asking, is it really just me that enjoys her screen time, or are there some other people who dont find her as intolerable as say.....miss magda?!??!?


Just an aside, we really ought to run a few more elimination games as most of the archived ones occured long before i joined!

Couple that with the fact that she is every bit "as annoying as Jinx or Rosie Carver", "as useless as Mary Goodnight or Kara Milovy" and "as miscast indeed as Christmas Jones", and there you have it. I'll admit that Tanya Roberts is a very good-looking woman, but so are Halle Berry, Denise Richards, Britt Ekland, and Talisa Soto, but that doesn't stop them from being bottom of the barrel Bond Girls. But the good news for you, my friend, is that Stacy Sutton has her defenders around here, as I'm sure you will learn.

My main problem is the constant squeal of "JAAAAMEEESS!!!!" takes me out of the movie. It is so prominent that you can't help but focus on it and it takes the intensity out of the scene. Similar to Chang in Moonraker when he constantly screams whenever brandishing his stick. It's such a distraction for me.

Good to see some support for Stacey, but you still don't quite get it.

1) Not a bimbo. Actually very smart and brave. Has a challenging and rewarding career with the State Geology Department. Likes cats. Has a cute Apple computer with seismic activity software. Strong morals, won't sell out to Zorin. Defends herself with a shotgun.

2) Very helpful. Stacey answers Bond's questions about geology that he doesn't understand. (Bond's not a know-it-all here)
Helps Bond infiltrate Zorin's mine by disguising themselves as workers. Drives a firetruck thru San Francisco. Uses her security pass to get in to City Hall records collection.

3) Not actually that annoying. She screams for help like 3-4 times at the most? It's really not a big issue. Besides what would you do in a burning elevator?

4) I know at least one female Geologist who is smokin hot. Stacey was perfect for the role.

Charmed & Dangerous

Let's face it, the majority of Bond woman roles are underwritten and hardly present massive opportunities for the actors involved to convey much depth. Stacey is no different in that respect.

I'm with Firemass here but my only observation is that Tanya Roberts has an unfortunately slightly squeaky voice that's a bit grating (well as they say, The Lord He giveth, The Lord He taketh away- it'd be too much to be that smokin' hot without some drawback somewhere). If she was dubbed I bet she'd be in many of our top ten...

Also this. As I wrote a little while ago on another thread, you might as well have her being kidnapped by Snidely Whiplash (although at least Dudley Do-Right [the animated version, not the film wherein they murdered the memory to the animated show] provided some pretty good comedic moments) with a piano playing 1920's silent era "damsel in distress" music. It really WAS distracting, and whilst I'm not crazy about MR, a 100% silent Chang actually would have been kinda creepy, but that didn't really fit the rest of the film.
