David Arnold Brass Instrument

What is the brass instrument Arnold uses in the tracks "White Knight," "Backseat Driver," and a little bit in "Bike Chase," and "Come In, 007, Your Time Is Up"? It's sort of a jazzy sounding instrument. It may not even be a real instrument, it might just be a mix of some sort. But I really like it and would like to know what it is. Thanks!

It's a trumpet, played by Derek Watkins. Mr Watkins died in March this year, and had played trumpet (and sometimes cornet) on every single Bond film.

It sounds a little distorted. Did he play it a certain way or did they do something to it to make it sound different?

A bit of both- Arnold would ask him to play a piece in a certain way (eg, "Play this part like the opening bars of TB", which wasn't a problem since Watkins had been the man who played the part in question anyway) and effects were often added at the mixing stage.

Do you know any way that that sound could be replicated?

Either as above - a trumpeter who knows his stuff plus a skilled engineer - or through software.
