Another Banana Republic Budget Quantum of Solace Harrington ?

Hi to all members!
l have found this alternative that looks very close to the jacket that Mr. Returningson has sold few weeks ago.
http://bananarepublic.gap.eu/browse/product.do?cid=61447&vid=1&pid=000768330SP04-13649
Iam 40' chest and I fit in M Billy Reid peacoat and M Commander jacket, but Banana Republic "recommend a Jacket - not that jacket - in size Medium"....(that's what they answered me )....
Now my question is.
According to your experience with Banana Republic, should I ignore the BR size chart (that suggest the M) and go for the S as suggested by Returningson [?
Thanks for your help (and thanks to Returningson who replied me in PM).

I would like to say that I obviously trust more in Returningson measurements, but his jacket was from the 2010 collection and I don't know if the new collection has the same measurements of this (similar, but not the same) jacket.

Are you going for a blend of the Y3 and the TF jacket? If you are replicating the TF QoS end finale jacket then I would try to find a NAVY one in a different fabric...plenty out there...

You are right, as always, David, but I was searching for a BR alternative from the new season , and I tought that that jacket could be interesting for the community.
Unfortunately I missed the returningson jacket in navy that imho seems the closest budget alternative to the TF harrington.
Obviously any advice from you about sizing and other brands would be' great !
    Thanks. Massimo

I'm a 42" chest and I wear a Small from Banana Republic. Mind you, I haven't bought anything from there for quite a while as I find their style to be too big, very boxy and far too large in the body. Mind you, that could have changed in recent seasons but I did try on a couple of jackets there a few months ago and they seemed the same.

I guess the question is are you determined that whatever you buy must come from BR (gift certificate?) or would you rather get something that looks better? Club Monaco has a black Harrington for the same price, and it's all cotton and likely fits far better (I have one in navy from a few years back).

    Thanks.
No, I am not determined to buy only BR stuff ( I have never purchased from BR, that's why I hav no experience with BR size and fitting)...
I am only looking for a good QoS harrington alternative, so, as usual, I've requested help to the forum members .
Didn't know Club Monaco, and to be honest, I can't find the jacket on their site ( and I am afraid they don't ship in Italy).
But, I must repeat, any suggeston from you all gentlemen ( sizing , brands, ecc..) is welcome !!

typically BR sizes a bit big or at least true to size (ive never owned a BR piece that fit slim). Im a 38R and whenever I buy a BR piece its always a small. Always. Their mediums just drown me. Cant speak for this particular jacket but BR does American sizing so their cuts are not as fitted as other brands. Just my 2cents...

I have the Abercrombie & Fitch harrington which in my opinion is the best you can do as an alternative. it doesn't have the elastic cuffs or waist, it's navy, and a slim fit.

I have the banana republic jacket and it's not a bad jacket but it's black and the nylon look and feel isn't all that appealing. I do like the collar on it though.

definitely prefer the Abercrombie jacket though, and I highly recommend it if you can pick one up. got mine on ebay.

I have the same Banana Republic jacket that you linked to. In my opinion, it's a great buy if you can get it on sale or use a coupon. I wouldn't pay the full retail price. It's a nice water-resistant nylon/cotton blend that's pretty lightweight. The zipper pockets on the side are handy to prevent things from falling out. It also lacks the elastic cuffs & waist that some harrington jacket have. I use mine for rainy days in the spring & summer.

Size-wise, I wear a medium in this jacket. I'm 5'11", 150 lbs, 38R suit, & Large for the Barbour To Ki To/Commander. I find the Banana Republic jacket is slimmer cut, but not a super-tight fit.

I saw this from Lyle&Scott a while back and thought it looked like a good alternative.

Hi to all members, and thanks for your suggestions!
I have to say that the Lyle and Scott Heritage Navy Cotton Harrington could be a good alternative to the original TF , and I would like to know if someone has bought it and how it fits.
I ask this, because terracesmenswear says that the measurements of the M chest is 40' (and suggest me order that size, because I'm 40' chest), but from this ebay seller http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mens-Lyle-and-Scott-Heritage-Navy-Cotton-Harrington-Jacket-Med-RRP-140-New/370880636532?_trksid=p2045573.m2042&_trkparms=aid%3D111000%26algo%3DREC.CURRENT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D27%26meid%3D890841973280463610%26pid%3D100033%26prg%3D1011%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D3%26sd%3D190891600372%26
the chest size of the M seems to be different (44' chest).
    What's your experience?
Should I go to a Medium or to a Small ?
    Thanks.
