A thought on TWINE: Renard started (before the movie) as the main villain when he captured Elektra, but in doing so he created a monster more twisted than himself. That's the uncomfortable part of the film- the victim becomes the villain, and not only can't Bond save her, he kills the monster. A lot edgier than we were prepared for back then (& now, apparently). Not nearly as clean as killing Carver in a more 'fun' & comfortable entry.
That's one of the major appeals of the film to me! I also love the remorse that Bond has when he kills Electra. You can see him steeling (hehe Brosnan's "steeling" himself ) ) himself in preparation for what he knows he'll have to do.

Or, Elektra was already becoming a psycho in her teen years and her getting "kidnapped" by her boyfriend was part of her scam to extort money from dear daddy. Either way, yawn.
'Alright guard, begin the unnecessarily slow moving dipping mechanism...'
Denise wasn't the best pick with just over amateur acting skills and a not so smart background but we all have to remember when it comes to james bond the women are hot and smart and it isn't about the actors real life also I think Tanya Roberts played Stacey Sutton well as Stacey was just an innocent bystander who got mixed up in it all
Love it. It has tons of action, but the thing that puts it above so many others is the storyline. It's a pretty emotional film for the most part and it keeps me on the edge of my seat.

TWINE is my favorite Brosnan film.
I loved it from the moment I saw it at the Edinburgh Odeon. Using Bobby Carlisle as the surprise underdog was clever, and worked well. (Dark Knight Rises failed to compare in this regard.) Sophie Marceau owns the screen as Electra, and the two actors work brilliantly together. As others have noted, even Renard seems caught in the spell and even a little afraid of the demented B**ch Electra has become - by what he did to her. Even 007 is taken in for a bit. - Without compromising him as a character.
This film also makes a credible use of Judi Dench's M as a key player in the story, but without clipping Bond's wings, or seeming intrusive. MPeny Tanner and Robertson all get some screen time, and there is some warm, entertaining and in retrospect very dear comedy from John Cleese and Desmond Llewellyn.
We even get a kind if Kiram Bey kind of rapport between Bond and Robbie Coltrane's Zukovsky, with Goldie and Ulrich Thomsen putting in good supporting performances.
I just wish John Seru had been given something physical to do, Gabor could have been a modern Odd Job! I can forgive Denise Richard's presence. Ok her casting was gratuitous, but she keeps up with Mr Brosnan in the witty remarks, and did a good turn with the underwater stuff.
Action wise we get that fantastic boat chase up the Thames, which cleverly takes a different tack form LALD or MKR by using a familiar "home" stretch of river, and although some may feel the Skiing was not as good as say OHMSS or TSWLM, I enjoyed it. The action scenes in the bunker and the sub both have tension and suspense before it all goes to hell, and the subversion of the BMW saving the day is eye popping and hilarious. As a Scot I loved Thane Castle too, even if it is blatantlya techno ubed Eilean Donan! Sets, costuming, locales etc, it all works for me.
Some may say the film is not dark enough, others might say its running to formula like TND before it, but to me its the best Brosnan Bond film. It gives everyone something to do, has nice vehicles, a plausible Bond storyline and Mr Arnold's excellent score (including my favorite score piece "Come In 007, Your Time Is Up,"supported by Garbage's rocking performance of the theme song. I love this film today as much today as the day I first saw it on the big screen, 14 years ago!
This is Thunderbird 2, how can I be of assistance?

IMHO some & others are wrong. )
Every time I see TWINE I like it more; all of Brosnan's 20th Century Bonds are great.
And Brosnan dumping that guy in the trash? So cold.... -{

I pegged Elektra as a villainess quite early on, and she seemed kind of dead and vampish in her post captivity video recording. Bane was what Renard was touted as but failed to live up to (ie. brilliant terrorist enforcer that spreads chaos and destruction for the sake of it). Renard seemed wet.

Renard could have been played up more in his final fight with Bond. In my mind it would be an awesome fist fight ending with Bond's bloody knuckles, raw knuckles and Renard skull crushed in. But maybe that's too dark!

He seemed more threatening in his role as Begbie in Trainspotting
Have you ever heard of the Emancipation Proclamation?"
Bane was what Renard was touted as but failed to live up to
I rather liked that Renard was different in that he turned out to be simply a dangerous and bitter little man as opposed to a confident mastermind with Oddjob/Jaws unstoppability.
Somewhat, I suppose, from certain points of view.
There was something about Renard's death that made me uncomfortable... it wasn't a villain demise that made me want to cheer.
And being made uncomfortable by something like this in a Bond movie means they're taking a chance. I see this as a good thing. -{

You are correct, sir! Richards definitely not worse than Roberts!

are simply "Damsels in distress "

Really, it doesn't have to always be a Blofeld or Stromberg.
So what about Silva? Would you say the same there? Another douschebag psycho killed in a pretty pedestrian manner... not even on a SUB, mind you.
