You could argue that the second world is gone (the communist block). Also, Portugese are moving to Angola to get work, Spaniards are moving to latin America for a better job market. The world(s) is not what it was.

Me, too. To me that term too often connotes that the inhabitants of the so-called Third World are "others" that are somehow less important than, or not as good as, those of us in the First World(?). I'm not saying the term is used with that intention - I'm just saying that it tends to come across that way. We're all a part of the same world as far as I'm concerned.

    Just a what if:
What IF we contact Syria's leaders and say you have 24 hrs to completely stop all killing, or we'll come in the following day and level every government building your country.
    ?:)

    Thunderpussy, can you please explain?

Chrisall: that's the worst idea I've heard in a long time! There are so many reasons why.
-If Assad's forces stopped killing, it wouldn'end the war. The Syrian Free Forces, the al-quida backed Nusra forces and probably others would fill the void and take Assads nerve gas.
    - Flattening every building in Syria? That would be one of the worst war crimes in history, dwarfing the gas attacks.

    No, every GOVERNMENT building. 8-)

Just wanted to see what you guys though the effect of such a big threat would be. I doubt we'd be able to carry it out, anyway.

Yeah, and with Assad forcing kids and families into government buildings as human shields - that would have immense impact if these buildings are attacked 8-)

Unfortunately you can't bomb every problem simply away 8-)

I'm not sure how bombing the Minestry of Education would ensure peace in Syria. Generally speaking, bombing the country into Afghanistan (removing their infrastructure) will only help taliban-style rebels.

What do you think of foreign minister Lavrov's suggestion? I imagine checking all the WMD's in Syria is very difficult, especially since the country is in the middle of a civil war. But getting Assad's WMD's under some kind of international control seems to be the best solution.
  • minigeffminigeff EnglandPosts: 7,884MI6 Agent
I think it'd be very hard to prove all the chemical weapons had been rounded up. I mean take Iraq for instance, they're still looking for WMD.

Also it's a bit odd to want to take all the chemical weapons off Assad's regime. I mean, it's a good thing to do, but it's almost as if the powers that want to do it are saying "look, you can kill your civilians if you like, just don't use chemicals".

Good points. But do they really still bother to search for WMD' in Iraq? I thought Bush jr.'s political reputation was beyond saving a long time ago.

I disagree. Comedians are funny on purpose. Idiots are funny because they can't help doing or saying stupid things. Bush jr. is the latter. But he was very funny and in that sense only, I miss him.
