I've been considering getting one of these services and was wondering if anyone had any opinions on them.
Which is Best or has a better variety of films and shows ?

Beware, my friend, it's addictive, like the Amazon wishlist that goes on forever and gets on top of you, like the unopened waste basket. I wound up with never any less than 30 films on my queue, and often some miserable obscurity you'd never pay for would wind up on the list and you'd eventually get round to it. In theory it's great, saves you buying DVDs, and much better than local Blockbuster or library. In practice, I can barely remember many of the DVDs I rented, just that it turned me into a couch potato, I'd watch with a curry and glass of rose and it was a bit depressing somehow. Yet I faithfully recorded a review of every rental I made on their site, a way it locks you in a bit (er, like being on a Bond forum I guess.)
So I'd advise exercising caution before joining, it's the 'gift' that keeps on giving, you never get there in the end, there's always another obscurity - Danger:Diabolik, Wrong is Right, The Umbrellas of Cherbourg - to tick off.
Erm, that said, can't blame you as the movies on TV are the same old rubbish forever repeated. Maybe leave it til evenings draw in and agree with partner to cancel periodically

Some nights there is very little on the old TV, so I'd be happy to watch something either a classic old
movie or something new ( ish ). It seems great value £6 pm. I am thinking more of Netflix as It would
played on the TV through a tablet.
