Here's my idea on each MI6 character and how he/she can be developed and used throughout Bond 24. M-Briefs Bond on his mission. If Mendes wants to add "extra" elements to the film, he could show the new M trying to adjust to the role and trying to get use to Bond and his ways. They can also show M reacting to Bond's assignment being played out with him discovering the villians plot etc. and we could also show the friendship of the original Bond and M (like the novels). For example where M asks Bond to help out at his Gentleman's club Blades with Hugo Drax.
Would be nice to see him at the end as well, congratulating 007 or bumbping into him and a girl...
Miss Moneypenny- I suggested her filling in a Sylvia Trench role but she can also be like a bridge between M and Bond. Helping their relationship, 'He isn't that bad, James'. Still the flirting scenes etc. can continue.
Bill Tanner- Can help out with the mission briefing but also could be Bond's agent at home. Bond would be across the globe and asks Bill to research and give him information on criminals and organizations etc.
Q- I loved how they used Q in Skyfall and with Q being young he would give gadgets but also be Bond's '911'.
He could call him during a mission, simliar to the tubes scene, with Q giving himd directions, teaching him how to hack something, use a gadget etc.
I think you've got some good ideas there, my friend. -{
I really don't hope so, I would like something as Bond/Maxwell had, I liked it very much. Bliss wasn't that bad but I don't like her version of Moneypenny that much. A 2nd Maxwell we'll never got I think, but I liked the scenes with Craig and Harris in Skyfall so it could be very nice. A desk job is the Moneypenny role, a Bondgirl is for the mission/bigger. Penny is allready bigger than in the Flemming books.

Agree - any bigger role then she will have to be in the field really which I guess is not possible after Skyfall's ending.
I guess she will have a slightly bigger role then Maxwell and get similar screen time as tanner / M etc

I liked Samantha Bond in GoldenEye, slightly more text than she normally get. That would be nice. I hope you're right, a bit bigger would be no problem, but just stay in the office.

Moneypenny could get a few more minutes, but not much. As far as field work they should be carefull. Perhaps in scenes a bit like Moneypenny slipping 007 his forged papers in the customs in DAF. In Craig's films M was far too much out in the field, meeting him for shorts chats around the world. The new Moneypenny could be used instead?
I'm also worried about the new M. I think Raphe Fiennes could be fantastic in the role, but I fear they will turn him into a field agent/action hero because Mallory is ex-SAS.

I don't think they'll go down that line. They pushed the M character just about as far as it would go with Dame Judi, and realistically M has to take a back seat now. No harm to Fiennes, who's a wonderful actor. It's good that he's relatively young and should age gracefully into the part over the next twenty or thirty years.
In this video you'll see Penny's role was bigger in the Connery films than in the Moore film, it's fine in the SC film, Maxwell was not very good (charisma and sreentime) in the RM films: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SHKiViK9LpM

MI6 has "new" quoates from Naomi Harris. Sounds like she is lobbying for more screen time. I wonder if she keeps it up, that she could lobby her way out of the role. EON has given Craig and Mendes a lot more input than is typical for the Bond series, however Ms. Harris could be easily replaced. It's a Bond film, not a Bond / Moneypenny buddy film. I could see her meeting Bond in the field in a courier role. She was retired from field work for a good reason in "Skyfall".
Actress
Naomie Harris doesn't want to see Miss Moneypenny stick behind the desk for good since she retired for field duty at the end of "Skyfall".
Harris told the Belfast Telegraph: "I definitely think she needs to be in the action, in the midst of things.
"I'm all about empowered women so I really hope so. I'll push for that for sure."
Frankly, it's been a long, long time since we just had Moneypenny behind the desk and sighing after James. Samantha Bond's Penny always had a lot to do--granted, she never had to pick up a weapon, but she did more than grab the hat 007 tossed across the room. I think Naomi Harris has been watching too many of the films from the '60s and '70s.

I'm sorry, I don't understand the concept!

Skimming over the thread I noted Sir Miles's observation about MPenny being formally introduced.
Leave it to our own M to make me facepalm! In context it makes MPenny's name reveal make sense.
Doesn't lessen flubs such as "Put out that bloody light!" though.
I ignore media speculation on Bond, its the old dollops of mud on the wall routine.
Personally I'd like to see Naomie Harris's MPenny get more screentime than default, there is no reason why she can't act as a field liason for M. - In a sense she did in Skyfall in Macau. Not Bonds partner or sidekick, but making field appearaces like Mr Llewelyn's Q did, or as mentioned Ms Maxwell's MPenny in DAF. Especially if they intend to continue the "Q doesn't travel well" undercurrent.
I am not worried about Mr Finnes as Mallory M. I see the army history reference as a one liner way of hinting how his character varies from Admiral Messry. Similar but different backgrounds. He is also great at doing a lot with a little in screen time. I like to think Eon considered that in casting him.
Mention of Tanner brings up another question in my mind. Would he not chair 00 group briefings in M's absence? There is a way of giving each of the four office staff something to do, providing its written well.
This is Thunderbird 2, how can I be of assistance?
To be clear, I actually am very happy with the return of Moneypenny and I think the casting of Naomi Harris and establishing a back story was good. As I said, I have no problem with Moneypenny being a courier or liason in the field for Bond. Finnes as the new "M" IMO is great casting, but I don't want to see "M" in the field either despite Mallory's backstory of being a "badass".

I second that. I really like both the new Moneypenny and the new M, and I'm looking forward to seeing them have more than just a few fleeting moments on screen. But I would also like to see the field activity remain focused on Bond.
