I suspect, with the reintroduction of SPECTRE and given how Skyfall ended, we will go back to the gunbarrel being at the start.
People were saying this about the gunbarrel being at the beginning of Quantum of Solace after seeing Casino Royale, and at the beginning of Skyfall after seeing Quantum, and then made excuses for it being at the end after the film was released. The opening of Quantum would have been perfect for a gunbarrel and the opening of Skyfall should have had the gunbarrel instead of Bond walking down a hallway. Is Bond walking down a hallway that important to the story? It's really not hard to fit the gunbarrel at the beginning.
I used to think the gunbarrell should open as always. But this week I've been watching TB, GE and TWINE and the gunbarrell at the beginning felt...weird, like prehistoric or something.
I prefer it at the end. The movie literally ends with a bang. Makes for a very exciting finish. Go back and watch TLD and they've got some love song playing as soon as the movie ends. It's very boring and if they just put the gun barrel scene there instead it would have been a great finish.
LTK and a few others also have a very crappy ending like that.
1: Casino Royale 2: Goldeneye 3: Skyfall 4: Octopussy 5: Goldfinger 6: Tomorrow Never Dies 7: The World Is Not Enough 8: The Living Daylights 9: From Russia With Love 10: The Spy Who Loved Me

I see LTK getting mentioned a lot with a crappy ending. It might be a controvertial opinion but I really like Patti Labelle's "if you asked me too" song that plays of the credits of that movie. It always leaves me with a smile, almost like an ending to the classic Bond movies.
Goldeneye on the other hand does indeed have a very boring song playing over the credits, and I've never really thought of how those movies would have been with a gunbarrel at the end...

Could not agree with you any more. LTK is my favourite of all the Bond endings. Get's me all emotional every time ) -{
I think they were wanting to make Daniel Craig's different. Like each actor has his own way of performing the gun barrel scene.
Just a thought.
Right. If you think about it, how many times a Bond movie ended kissing a Bond girl near water? It's traditional, I know that. But I'm getting used to finish with the gunbarrel instead. Plus, I can't really see Craig finishing a movie kissing the Bond girl in a gondola , with a ballad as soundtrack. It's more like, "the job is done, and the bitch is dead".
I'm hoping they use it for the midway interval for ice cream and a piss break.
Hopefully not in that order though. Us men are never good at multitasking. I for one would find it extremely difficult to eat ice cream and aim and fire at the same time. )
I've heard they will put a gun barrel in every ten minutes
Who is your source because he/she isn't reliable. I've heard from someone really close to the fire that the ENTIRE Movie will be shot through a gunbarrel.
I have a feeling that it will happen like QoS and form the word SPECTRE at the end. Maybe the blood trickling could form into the octopuses tenticles. That could look very cool however Im definately one for thinking the gunbarrel should be at the beginning.
I'd like to see a traditional gunbarrel at the start. Whilst it didn't affect the film, I just didn't like the skyfall one. The walk seemed too fast, the lighting on Craig's face.....I could barely see his face. And the blood was horrible.

I agree, too fast, and Craig shoots with his hand almost blocking his face. Craig's QoS and SF are actually the worst gunbarrells. I much preferred the CR one.

And so he should, he shoots a handgun correctly and brings it up to the aim. If his face wasn't obscured by the aim, it would be unrealistic like the others. The one thing I like about Craig's films is that he knows how to handle a weapon. It's the first time we've seen a Bond actor handle a gun like he knows how to use it. Brosnan was the worst, and going up against Moore, that is a pretty epic fail.

After how Casino's was done, I would rather have it at the end and be the full scene than be at the start and be half assed

Bond will never have a piss break, and then eat an ice cream! Maybe beluga caviar would do, though...
