For those who have read them:
Is it me or are they very clumsily written? I enjoyed the first two, however I have stopped half way through The Bourne Ultimatum. I loved the films and really want to like the novels but some of the things and some of the dialogue that Ludlum writes is unrealistic in the extreme.

I have tried on more than one occasion to finish a Robert Ludlum novel, including 'The Bourne Identity.' I even tried listening to the audiobooks. Each time, I gave up, and don't plan to try again. I think Ludlum is a terrible writer, with awful dialogue and many annoying stylistic quirks, i.e. lots of exclamation points.
I love the Bourne films, though. As one critic wrote, the movies have the advantage of being free of Ludlum's leaden prose.
