problem is that there is no money shot yet
The watch is still in the making and I am boring you guys with my basic thoughts to get some reassurance that ruining a perfect Rolex is the right thing and to cope with my excitement during the waiting time until the watch is ready {[]
BTW: Having met that Asp9mm recently I can assure you that there may be noone in the entire world who's so boring and hermit-ic like him.
He can't socialize, only brabbling about his guns 8-) - annoying for everyone....
Wow, sounds exciting! I'm sure it will be fantastic. I've always wanted to do a custom Submariner myself, but was thinking more in terms of a DLC or Teflon coated 5513 with a custom dial. Can't wait to see your custom Rolex.

So, what sharp little eyes you've got...wait till you get to my teeth.

So, in the previous posts, I have tried to outline my basic thoughts, which lead me all to the Project X Submariner:
The series is sold out but still available on the secondary market, but in my opinion, it's not really perfect:
1. ROLEXROLEX engraving on the rehaut
2. The Project X logo on the dial
3. There is a Project X logo on the caseback
4. The NATO strap is not perfect
5. if you look closely on the image above - the case section on top of the crown appears to be photoshopped
6. Their pricing is outrageous.
This all lead me to the question: Why not buying a 16610LV* and have the modification done yourself?
* The 16610 LV is the anniversary edition of the regular Submariner but hat the Maxidial with the larger lume plots and a broader minutehand.
The PX Submariner has the larger plots - Maxidial
Here you can see a comparison from Subs with standard dial on the left and Maxidial on the right:
The 16610LV not only features the Maxidial, it also has the green bezel insert, but that can be changed later.
So after all these thoughts, I had to go for a 16610LV but for a version without the engraved rehaut for a reasonable price.

That is a great starting point for your watch. Is it just me or does the text on the watch looks a lot more prominent on the newer Rolex than it did on the old ones?
I own a used 1016 Explorer - the same model Fleming had. I wear it every other day and have had it for years. I've done everything while wearing it and it's a great, dependable, tough old timepiece. I would never use it as a knuckle duster, but I love having it.
Shaving the crown guards off.
It sounds pretty easy but obviously it isn't!
This is the blueprint and I've contacted PX at first to ask for a price for the case modification only.
Being pretty hard-skinned their estimate to do the job simply took my breath away.
Additionally I have been told (but am not sure if it's correct or not) that the final product looks not as perfect as the supposedly photoshopped pic.
The problem is to get the curve from the casemid absolutely right while making sure that the crown does not touch the outer bezel ring and keep the Triplock crown and tube fully functional.
This is supposed to be a PX done modification - have a look at the pointy shape of the modification. This is what I DON'T want:
This is supposed to be an independent modification with similar results: Pointy front and no curves!
The front sides are pointy and not curved like it should be.
On this pic (also a PX conversion), it seems that there is too much meat ground off from the case but at least it's rounded.
I just want to recall that a replacement case from Rolex will cost around US$ 3500,--, so if there is going something wrong, the damage will be huge.
So I researched up and down for months - annoyed people with all kind of questions to get closer to someone who is able to do the job right. Homework is absolutely necessary as I'll only have one shot on this!

Why don't you just buy a decent watch in the first place you muppet ? )
well, then tell the gf to drink tetrapack wine if she wants to have red, buy her shoes at ASDA instead of Jimmy Choo and use a shopping sack to carry her stuff to work.
You'll soon experience the reply as a raised middlefinger or a kick into your pleasurecenter

Rolex and all other watch companies continuouly change their fonts sizes and logo details.

Notice something?
Yes a dodgy fooker opened the watch and replaced the beautiful Maxidial with a standard 16610 dial X-(
I am told that the dial looks like that today :v
Anyhow, the bracelet went off and is being sold seperately:
The dodgy dial & hands have been removed and sold:
The bezel insert is removed and sold, too:
The correct dial has been reinstalled and the movement is now stored in a sealed container:
Now the case is ready to be taken for modification (note that the green bezel is different - a "working bezel" so to say):
