Moore acquired a vocal tick, it seemed to come about around 1975, a manner in his delivery. It's a sort of pause, or hesitation, like he's considering what he's saying half way through the line. It makes the delivery seem less automatic, less like he's reading off a script. I noticed it in The Wild Geese too.
"Well, I, er.... [looks down or sideways] Thought I'd see you safely to your room..."
Not an actual line, btw, but it's there in every film after TMWTGG, and makes him look less smarmy and pleased with himself the whole time. It makes him a movie star, too.
I agree. Moore's performance was deliberately sort of an actor walking on a stage through a panaroma of crazy **** behind him and commenting on each of them. His movie persona less an action hero and a killer, and moreso a television personality. He knew that was what he was going for and he did it quite well at that.
I love the fact that Moore's Bond is such a know-all.
Whenever he is in M's office, and M says "have you ever heard of <insert topic here>" Roger immediately goes off on a rather long and in-depth explanation of the topic.
To which M usually shows mild irritation and says something like "yes yes we know all that" )

It pretty much made him a unique Bond

And with Bernard Lee's M. M was sometimes friendly to him, and he clearly had more respect for Moore's Bond than Connery's and Lazenby's.
