Considered "2nd Best film" from Sean/Rog/Pierce

The mainstream viewpoint is that Goldfinger is the best Connery Bond, TSWLM is the best Moore Bond, and Goldeneye is the best Brosnan Bond.

What would you consider to be the general consensus of the 2nd Best Bond film from each actor? Compare that with your own personal selection.

Connery: From Russia With Love seems to be the runner up to Goldfinger. Personally, I would vote for Dr. No.

Moore: For Your Eyes Only seems to be the most highly praised RM Bond after TSWLM. Personally, I would vote for Moonraker.

Brosnan: Very close race between TND and TWINE. Although DAD was initially well received, its reputation has suffered in the past 10 years.

    My opinion:

    Connery: From Russia With Love; First I got it on DVD and I don't liked it very much, but my parents gave me the game for my 7th birthday in 2005. I really loved it, so after the game I watched the movie for the second time and I saw totally the same, but then as a movie. I was so happy about it, now I like it because te actors are good en it's a nice story.

    Moore: For Your Eyes Only; Not a special reason, just a good movie.

    Brosnan: Die Another Day; I love the movie, it's the first Bondfilm I ever saw, we got it on videotape, I liked Pierce because EoN (in that time I believed Bond was a real person, funny me, I thought that it really happend and they made a game of the securitycams and his story.) So I really liked PB and after EoN I watched DAD over en over again until I get more Bondfilms, so I did one year with 2 game's and one Bondfilm.

    I agree with the IMDB folks in that case. I prefer LALD above TSWLM. I enjoyed TND above TWINE also. The first 5 Connery's are all brilliant in each way. But again I agree that FRWL is my second favourite.

    FYEO 73% Fresh
    LALD 65% Fresh
    MR 62% Fresh

    The Brosnan films unfortunately have really bad ratings on rotten tomatoes. Go figure...

    That's right. But if you have an imdb account there's a feature where you can 'list' things, and from this you can find out which films have a higher rating than others with the same score. LALD has a higher rating than FYEO, putting FYEO in 3rd place for the Moores.

    As for my own opinions - I love both LALD and FYEO, but love LALD more. FRWL is decent but I prefer DN, YOLT, and DAF {:). And for Brosnan, TND and TWINE are literally on par, though I'd say TWINE is a tiny bit better.

    I agree with the mainstream, the best one's from Sean, Roger and Pierce are GF, TSWLM and GE.

    The 2nd best of them are tough one's for me. Sean's second best is probably either From Russia with Love or Thunderball. However my second favorite Sean Connery movie must be You Only Live Twice! (Guilty pleasure, pure prime 60'ies entertainment!!!)

    Roger's second best (and also my second favorite) would be For Your Eyes Only. Pierce's second one is probably The world is not enough or Tomorrow Never Dies. I always rank those two very close.

    FRWL has always been Connery's best for me, with GF or TB as his second. Looks like I'm in the silent majority with that thought process! :p

    Agree with FYEO for Roger's second best, with TND being my runner up for Pierce.

    I disagree with the mainstream view that Goldfinger was Connery's best. I'd argue that From Russia With Love was Connery's best, although I'd rate Goldfinger as his second best (in terms of his performance as Bond - I do think Dr No is the better film overall with the better script).

    As for Moore, I also disagree with the mainstream view about The Spy Who Loved Me. In fact, as far as Moore Bonds go, I'd say only Moonraker is worse. I think For Your Eyes Only is Moore's best, while Live and Let Die was his second best.

    I agree with you about Brosnan. GoldenEye was his best, and Tomorrow Never Dies was his second best.

    I agree with you there. As for Moore, to me his best is FYEO and OP his second best. For Brosnan, best is GE with TWINE second, IMHO.

    I might not be qualified to post on this as I don't agree with the mainstream opinion of their "best." For the best are Thunderball, TMWTGG and TWINE. Rated on pure enjoyment. Rated on performance and the best made film, it's be FRWL, FYEO, and again, TWINE, although if I was rating purely on The performance as Bond, it would go TB, FYEO, and DAD. :D

    And I think it's pretty much agreed with Dalton's two that The Living Daylights is the best, but that's not knocing Licence to Kill at all... it's right behind it.

    For me, "FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE" was Connery's best Bond film. Second place would be "THUNDERBALL".

    I believe "FOR YOUR EYES ONLY" was Moore's best Bond flick. For me, second place would be "OCTOPUSSY".

    And I feel that "GOLDENEYE" was Brosnan's best flick, with "THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH" in second place.
