Any of you guys tried on or seen in person the Omega Darkside of the moon?
Hi Welshboy78, Having be an Omega collector for a few years I was invited to a viewing for DSOTM by Omega here in Kuala Lumpur. Nice watch and good movement however as i have a few LE Spedmasters and at the price of around Euro 10k decided against the purchase , however in hindsite I should have bought as they only had 2 available in Malaysia. At the time decided to go for the Chopard Mille Miglia Zagato LE, which I wear most days and does get a few comments. But should not have let the DSOTM slip through my fingers.

I have it is a beautiful watch, quite big and the ceramic case is something special. I like the Dark Side of the Moon Lunar Eclipse even better. However, I think the new Speedmaster 1957 is also a great option and would be my choice.
Whats everybody's opinion on ceramic case watches????
Ive seen horror stories and pics of snapped lugs etc but guess its in the minority and from dropping the watches not the odd bang, at these prices though it does scare you a little
Haha - no mate, for once, it's not mine.
Pic was taken at the Omega boutique in The Royal Exchange, London, soon after the watch came out. Tried it on, but unfortunately, didn't take a wristie.
It's one of the nicest ceramic watches I've seen - particularly like the fact that the mid-case is brushed and polished like a steel Speedmaster. The whole caseback is transparent, as well. Quite a large watch though.
The problem with black watches for me, be they ceramic, carbon fibre, forged carbon, DLC, or PVD coated, is that they always look a bit cheap and toy like to me - even though they are usually more expensive than their steel, or titanium equivalents.
Since this is becoming the go-to topic for everything (Bond) watch related I thought I’d post my question here. What is your favourite Bond watch and why? Is it just because you think it is the most beautiful, it has the best gadgets or because you remember seeing it as a kid and thinking “wow when it is my birthday I want THAT watch!”.
Ill start it off with my favourites.
-The Omega Seamaster Professional. An iconic piece that defines the Bond watch. I know the Submariner is the original Bond watch but I think that would be considered a classic even without the Bond connection. The Seamaster on the other hand will always be “The Bond”. To be honest I do like the new Ceramic version better than the old wavy dial but I hope they will not use it in a future movie. Craig’s Bond is better suited for a PO or AT; the Professional was Pierce’s baby.
-The Octopussy Seiko. It looks different from other digital watches and digital watches were cool in the 80’s and early 90’s. Octopussy was the second Bond movie I ever saw and I still remember that watch. This was the watch that I wanted for my birthday when I was young. I had to make do with a cheap digital watch I won at the fair and make the beeping noises myself. O the joy of being a kid! The fact that Octopussy is one of my favourite Bond movies and was released in the year I was born might have something to do with it as well.
-The Submariner. It is a shame that a lot of ‘wrong’ people are wearing Rolex these days because it is still an amazing watch. The Sub in LALD might have the coolest gadgets of any Bond watch but that wrist shot in GF is also iconic.
I guess like you mention, the two defining watches of the film series (simply due to the amount of times they are featured) are:
Older era: Bond Submariner
Modern era: Omega Seamaster
With regards to the Omegas though my favourite out of the bunch is the Casino Royale era PO. I guess Omega are really trying to make the PO the new "Bond" watch just like Brosnan's Seamaster however due to the constant updates of the PO its hard to nail it down as the Daniel Craig watch as he is already on his third. I think he will never have his "own" watch. Its a shame really - what made the Seamaster so iconic with Brosnan was the fact he wore the same one throughout his tenure (ok picky people will mention Goldeneye Quartz) but hey ho money talks but a bit of continuity would be cool for DCs Bond!
The Aqua Terra was the star of the show with regards to Skyfall however Omega really didn't market it at all and promoted the 8500 series PO again. I was in London and Hong Kong around the Skyfall launch (Nov / Dec) and Skyfall Omega marketing was in your face everywhere but the Aqua Terra did not really get a look in.
I dont have any love for the 80's digital lot and although they were cool and pricey for the time they do look a bit naff on Moores wrist nowadays!!! I just have too many bad memories of my digital watches going belly up!!!!!!
I agree with the comments above. With Craig's films, he's simply worn the Omegas and done nothing else with them. In Skyfall there is a good close-up of his PO Ceramic but you would need to look VERY closely to spot the Aqua Terra!
Although (at the time) I liked the Seiko's, these haven't dated well either as a gadget or a watch in my opinion.
Which leaves, really the Seamaster Pro - great looking watch and great and different uses as a gadget! Detonator, torch, laser, grappling hook - have I missed any?
And... still my personal favourite - The Rolex Submariner. This watch is still iconic and beautiful and I wanted one ever since I saw it in Live and Let Die. This was the first Bond film I ever saw as an impressionable young teenager and I was hooked. No re-runs on TV in those days!
"By the way Mr Bond, that's a particularly handsome watch you are wearing..."
Favourite Bond watch as it appears in the films is the LALD Sub. Made the biggest impression on me as a youngster.
First decent watch I bought was the quartz Seamaster pro, per Goldeneye, which I wore everyday for several years, until buying watches became a hobby!
Prettiest Bond watch is probably the blue AT from Skyfall.
Bond watch I'd most like to own, is a Connery style 6538 Sub - but never shall, as it would necessitate me selling most of my watches to own a decent one.

I remember the first time that I've seen TMWTGG (in a "cinemathek" - you could order food and drinks - small table in front of you), I did not see much of the action because I could not stop starring at Bond's watch.
But the G757-5020 impressed me similarly. It was so cool and showed prominently - but noone in my town carried one.
Though I just had purchased my first expensive watch after FYEO (a Seiko Analogue Chronograph)
so no funds left for buying another one…..

Looks like the watches casket of Darth Vader.

I think it might have been better though at 42mm? Ive not seen many wrist shots but the ones I've seen it looks pretty big.
I love the day shots of it but it looks a bit too glossy under lights etc.
I might be over the UK next month so will be sure to check it out in person!!!
Yes the case back and details look pretty cool on this model
Agree that 42mm would have been nicer, but I'm not sure the Calibre 9300 movement will fit in a smaller case.
I read online the crown does not screw down or along those lines as its ceramic hence only 50m depth rating
Not sure about the crown though. It's quite a while since I handled the watch.
