Within the space station or craft then I'm sure the watches would work fine, though positive pressure inside the watch could force the screen out or the caseback off, I think the temperature outside the iss is below -200 Celsius, could an lcd screen cope with that sort of temperature and function? I've heard of digital watches freeze up at -20 though in not saying a g shock would, I really don't know anything about them. My point was that luxury tool watches are still very capable of being a tool watch.

As I have said before, Grand Seiko really asks, what kind of watch person you are.
How much are you influenced by a brand name or how much are you willing to look at the watch alone.
I remember when I saw a GS at first in a high end department store in Tokyo - next to similarly priced Rolex watches. My thought was "who the f*ck is buying this??"
Let's keep in mind that the shown GS is priced below US$ 5.000,— (4600 precisely).
Imo the value that you get for it is excellent! You see in every aspect, that this watch is built better and with more attention to detail than the competitors (Omega and Rolex).
The case seems to be of a brighter material than the usual - I may be fooled by the entirely polished finishing of the case.
The lugs:
I love chamfers!! You guys, too?
Then look at these masterpieces of lugs. Those are chamfers! But look how they increase over the lug length and stop before they go entirely all the way.
Everytime that I look at them, I am amazed by how much work went into these lugs, particularly the fine bevels at the insides!
The crystal is a masterpiece itself. I don't know any other manufacturer who does this kind of crystal currently - in sapphire!!. I remember IWC had them once available for the Da Vinci but the crystal was awful with lots of reflections and distortions.
The GS crystal is perfect - which is no surprise as Seiko optical lenses are among the best in Asia. Yes, Seiko makes these crystals inhouse!!!
The dial with the cream tone is simply gorgeous! I could have gone with the same watch without the GMT functionality for some hundred $ less but it would have been too boring to me that way.
I have not gotten tired looking at the dial (and those hands!!! Those Hands!!!). The indices are sparkling like nothing that I have seen, it's pure eyecandy. The oversized date window is just big enough to not require an additional magnifier and I can read the date with no problem.
Those Dauphine hands are simple and beautiful. They are facetted on every corner and the finishing (called Zaratsu - an ancient Samurai Sword polishing technique) is razor-sharp!!
I have no idea how much time goes into those to get them so perfectly mirror-even and perfectly bevelled, but they must cost a lot!

The movement is nicely finished, but lacks the details of high-end manufactures like Lange or Patek.
I'd rate the visual appearance as equal to the competitors. What strikes me are the "Geneva Stripes" which are executed in a way that the light is broken down in rainbow colors so there is a rainbow hue over the movement brigdes.
The movement has a 72 hr power reserve, the rotor is silent and the watch runs well in COSC specs.
The GMT function works like in the Rolex GMT. The 24 hrs hand stays and you can adjust the hour hand in the first position of the crown. So, if you fly to another place, you don't have to stop your watch. You just advance the hour hand to the new local time and still can check your home time with the 24 hrs hand.
Little Niggles:
Imo, the opening of the glass bottom is too small and the screws that fix the bottom are too large.
I am sure that GS may tell you that it's a step forward in terms of functionality, and I have gotten used to it.
When the time is at 12:00 sharp, I have the feeling that the 24 hr hand does not exactly touch the 12'' mark. It takes till 12:02 until it's lined perfectly.
I am not sure, if that has to do with positioning of the hands or if the dial is not 100% symmetrical.
I'll let GS check that when the honeymoon period it over.
One more thing that is totally not understandable: There is a beautiful deployant bucke, but the Grand Seiko Logo is upside down to the wearer. and there is no way to fix it. I have checked several GS recently and all are that way...
In summary, I would say that GS and their merits are overseen by most of us.
I did not like their very 60-70 style cases but the present has a much different vintage and due to the cream dial unique touch.
Seiko is one of the few that is totally integrated. They make everything inhouse and particularly the dial would sit proud in watches that cost much, much more money. And the dial is what you see most on a watch, eh?

Needless to say they command a hefty price (£20k+) in the collectors market but due to rarity are well known to dealers. So not much chance to pass it on without getting noticed that’s for sure. They come up occasionally on eBay and I have seen 2 (one in the flesh) and last one sold earlier this year. Naturally it has sentimental value and is not replaceable.
Sad as it is a local thief thought it a good idea to borrow one without seeking permission in Hereford (UK) a few days before Christmas. If he knew what he was doing he is a brave man, if not then he is a fool. Either way said person has a drastically reduced life span because upsetting these chaps or their friends is not recommended! Needless to say outside of anything linked to National Security tracking the perpetrator down now has a high priority

Yeah rumour has it there is a sportsman’s bet between local Police and UKSF in terms of who finds him first. I know where I would put money, but I know who I would prefer to be caught by!
Now the word is out local known bad boys are queuing up at the doors of the local Constabulary begging to be taken in for a few nights as UKSF conduct their local research

Its always surprised me the extent of the "bad boys" in the Hereford area given the regiment that's based there, saying that that there was a pub near Carlton barracks some 23 guys would frequent and that was full of local "hard guys"

I've been considering a departure from Omega recently when my fancy was tickled by an Alfa Romeo watch, in fact one was supposed to be my Christmas present from Mrs coop before we had to buy her a new car (which we considered a big enough expense without buying further presents for each other)
Alfa have a long history of commissioning watches bearing their logos and legends
