Hi, has anybody here experience with this Seiko G757 5020 Sports 100 alternative: https://www.timex.com/browse/collections/q-timex/shop-q-lca-reissue/ ?

That looks like a lot of retro fun, very cool. I'm sure you can't go wrong with it. Looking at YouTube reviews it looks like it even has that countdown feature which turns the clock face part into the countdown rather like the film watch, although it looks like it doesn't spin every second like that one does. The more regular Casio which has a hint of the G757 doesn't have that, and although this one doesn't look hugely like the G757 it does more of the sort of feel of the period than the Casio does- you can imagine Roger Moore wearing this one!

I wish someone (Seiko, a sub brand or a licensee maybe) would do a reissue of the G757 though: I'd buy it like a shot and considering others are doing watches like this one I'm sure it would be a hit.

Hi all, what’s peoples views on the Planet Ocean 42mm in Titanium. Been offered one with blue dial for £4650. Good reliable retailer.Says pre owned but looks brand new. Think it might have been left over stock.
    Thanks.

It’s a good watch. Much nicer visually than the latest updated version.

Beautiful watch. Seems a good price too, if as new.
  • DexDex Posts: 28MI6 Agent
Okay, so I got some more info from the retailer. The watch is being sold as pre owned but is brand new .Reason is because they have "lost " warranty cards so can not sell as "new" .
What was the RRP when these were available? Does £4650 sound a reasonable price considering the missing paperwork?
    Many thanks for any help.

Sounds dodgy. They can easily get replacements cards from Omega, costs them about £25. They were discontinued ages ago too, so how has such a popular watch remained unsold. Doesn’t add up.

It's from a reputable High Street dealer, & they did admit that they have had it a good while.

If that’s the case then they can get you a set of cards at a minimal cost if you ask them. They’re quite important. I wouldn’t pay that without having a full set of cards.

Okay , thanks for the advice, I will get on to them in the morning regarding replacement cards.
I have bought & sold pre owned watches before but have avoided those without all documentation, as you say they are important, especially for resale.
However I don't see any reason why this retailer would try & sell anything dodgy. It would not be in their best interests. My only other thought as to why they haven't applied for new cards is the age the watch now must be.

It’s a strange thing for them to do. I have experience as an ambassador for Rolex, Omega and Breitling. It’s odd that a retailer would have this very popular model in for so long after being discontinued and not order in new paperwork as it’s an easy sale. I’ve seen this before when a watch has been returned and Omega not giving out the papers as the watch was not pristine, the retailer then sells it as secondhand after getting it refurbed. It happens quite a bit in major well known high st retailers. They even refurb them first before sending back to Omega to ensure new paperwork is replaced. It’s more common than thought. Especially with stock items that have been in and out the window every day and aren’t pristine.

If they have a brand new watch, it makes utterly no sense at all why they wouldn’t get new papers for it. And even less why they still have it so long after it’s been discontinued. Be careful with this one. It will be interesting to see what they say when you request that they order new paperwork. Like you say, you’ll find it more difficult to sell or exchange in future without those, so you have to balance up the facts and come to your own conclusion. You’re in a better position to judge than we are getting third hand info.

    Either way, all the best.

Was just watching the extras on the Tenet 4K Blu-ray and I noticed the watch that Hoyte Van Hoytema, the director of photography, was wearing.

    Spectre Limited Edition anyone???

I’d love to see Nolan direct, and this guy shoot, the next Bond.

Yeah, that’s the Spectre Omega. And as for the latter, I couldn’t agree more. Nolan wants to shoot an encased trilogy like he did with Batman though, so not sure how that would go down now. I’d love to see him direct a a Bond film though.

Just watched all the Tenet making of videos as well and not only was Hoyte wearing the 300 for the interviews, but also in pretty much every BTS clip of him on set during filming where his wrist could be seen. So he really must love it—seems like it’s his daily wearer.

The new version of the 300 which I've seen elsewhere seems a bit busy somehow. Can't put my finger on it but it's not as nice looking,, even though the difference is subtle.

The new SM300 is a mixed bag of good and bad improvements.

Smaller case, flatter profile, less cluttered dial and brushed inner links are all a win.

Aluminium bezel is a step down. But the new tapered crown ruins the overall look completely for me. Not sure about the sandwich dial or lollipop hand either. They should have kept the latter as a SPECTRE exclusive.

The thinner profile looks better. I basically stopped wearing the SM300 altogether because of how thick it was, and comically large under a cuff.
  • emtiememtiem SurreyPosts: 5,948MI6 Agent
I've never owned one but I did think it was so tall it almost looked like a coke can on people's wrists! :) Shame because the Spectre one in particular I found rather beautiful.
Wearing it on a Nato seems rather crazy.

Not sure if the „Flight qualified by NASA in 1965 for all manned Space Missions“ and „The first watch worn on the moon“ is still legal and has been * since the 1861 model has been introduced.

Would be interesting if they’d be legally challenged one day....

I like that fabric strap however

The crown is a real head-scratcher. It looks closer to the crowns seen in the Aqua Terra and to me the appeal of the 300 is that there's nothing overly "precious" about it.

What's a good way of getting a value for a watch? A family member has a 70s Sicura (which later became Breitling) which I want to buy, and I don't want to try and diddle him and give him less than it's worth, but equally it's quite hard to be sure what the value is as so few of them seem to be around and neither of us are sure. It's an MG commemorative chrono from 1975 with a Valjoux 7734 movement.

So I just read online that Patek Philippe is discontinuing the 5711 and the Sky Moon Tourbillion. There are other watches being discontinued but I wasnt able to find out which ones.

I‘d guess that we‘ll see the Nautilus soon in a slightly larger case diameter.

Granted I've only seen a Nautilus once but never tried it on I'm hoping they don't go too big. I'm thinking a 1mm more is enough but I'd like to see them improve the power reserve on the movement or anew movement entirely, use screws in the bracelet links and update the bracelet to the same double deployant as the 5740/1G. I can see it now that 5711's and 5800's will hit the 100k mark and we'll over that for unworn examples plus the model will probably start at 35k which is definitely unobtainable for a mere mortal like me :#

I dont take the Chrono24 Watch Collection section serious (values your collection) as I presume its based on asking prices rather then sales. However my 5711 is showing a 317% profit based on what I paid so presume it has surged last few days.

Strange how they didn’t discontinue 5712 also.

I am also guessing it will be revamped with a new code however would be interesting if they had the balls to just discontinue it for a few years. I know in interviews TS gets agitated about the Nautilus taking the focus off their collection and being seen more as a luxury Sports watch brand.

I think that increase is a bit high but if you paid 25k for it then that % increase is correct then I agree it's based on asking prices. For all I know they did discontinue the 5712st but we'll probably know in the next week or so. I know TS has made statements around discontinuing the Nautilus and possibly the Aquanaut but it would be a HUGE mistake. Most people who seem to get the Nautilus without any purchase history are either very lucky and have a good relationship with their AD or Patek chooses to bestow one on their loyal customers.

In the long haul if they don't bring a new model out it's going to hurt the brand as most people are only wanting steel sports models and it may end up pushing them to AP, Rolex and Omega but that also means that those will become harder to find!

President Biden rocking his black-faced Seamaster 300M. Apparently he's a big fan of the watch—he's also been pictured wearing a white face/gold bezel model as well as a Brosnan era blue on blue (he wore that all the time when he was VP).

Thanks I was wondering what he was wearing. I thought it was an Aqua Terra from some angles.
  • HigginsHiggins GermanyPosts: 16,619MI6 Agent
Recently, he was seen quite often wearing a Datejust with blue dial and smooth bezel like during inauguration day

Oh that's the one I took to be an AT- that's a much clearer angle. That looks very stylish, I prefer that smooth bezel.
