Anybody else checked out the asking prices of Omega Planet Oceans on Ebay recently? Two possibilities, there are a lot of people desperate for cash at Christmas or there are a lot of fakes being passed off as genuine.

YES! Holy crap, absolutely cheapest you're looking at is 3K, for somewhat legit-looking items. 4-4.5K for more, even dodgy-looking ones. I bought my first Omega recently but was really put off by the PO listings, it's just a gong-show at the moment. A shame because the aesthetic of that watch has really grown on me. Ultimately got a 300m Pro with an authenticity card.
Are you guys on about the 2500 series (original) POs? E.g. Casino Royale and QoS
I sold mine for £1800 the other month with little effort. I think the minty / excellent condition examples are indeed rising in price as it is a better looking watch then the new versions. I think it will become a classic Omega
Omega is churning out far to many models for their own good kind of dilutes the brand

Yeh still kicking myself I didn't buy that off you too.

This is how Rolex should have done their Explorer !

As much as I like the XVI, the dial looks cheap. I can understand why Rolex wouldn't want to do that with their watches. But ideally they should have done this with the Exporer dial.
I prefer a "cheap looking" but functional* dial against an "expensive looking" hardly usable and over-blinged dial.
Not sure if you understand the concept of a Tool Watch - hardly surprising by your recent watch choices
Additionally a domed crystal is much more charming than the flat pieces of the contemporary Rolexes.
* matt dial, clear numerals no added reflective parts

I agree with the domed crystal and matt dial. The truth is, the Explorer is pretty much defunct as a specialist watch now anyway as most decent modern watches can go to the places and do the things the Explorer could do in those environments and more. In fact, the specialist 'tool' watch concept as a whole is dead. No one uses a watch anymore as their only way to time a dive. No pilot uses a GMT as their means of time. Those days are long gone and we are just historians regaling in that honored golden age of the 'sports' watch.
The only truly specialist watch now, is ironically, the 'dress' watch.
At least Rolex still haven't gone down the extreme 'blingy' route that Breitling have taken. Although, it is close.
Kind of regret selling it as it was kind of my beater - didn't need the money, just felt guilty having 8 watches and the Mrs reminding me )
Now down to six!!!!!
Ha ha, if only my misses knew I'm actually up to 12, 3 Omegas, 1 Anonimo and 7 liquid filled watches which had an rrp of 1295 but picked them all up a lot cheaper, lol. Pulled all the liquid filled ones out and going to change the batteries on them, will hopefully end up with 5 running ones and keep 2 for parts.

Not too long ago you'd be flat stick finding one under 4K. Maybe its me but there seems to be more cheaper ones available. To the point where I'm questioning their authenticity. I actually like a used watch. My Speedmaster is definately a working girl.

Some valid points.
But I know some pilots who are still using their GMT as a backup and so are some divers.
And what I really like about that IWC is that though they've modernized it, they still stayed faithful to the original - something I wish I could say about Rolex with the Explorer 8-)
So, your 5512 dial looks cheap?
You prefer your Explorer over a vintage 1019?
Let me suggest you send the old and cheap crap over to me and I'll replace them with the valuable contemporary variant!
No? Then everything that you've previously mentioned is simply rubbish!

It will probably be the watch I bought myself as an early Christmas present a few months ago - a real piece of 'watch porn' - the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Extra-Thin 15202ST.
Has some kind of significance to me, as the original Royal Oak (of which this model is the direct descendant and uses the same movement) was released in the same year as my birth, 1972.
The world's first 'luxury' Stainless Steel wrist watch - costing nearly twelve times the price of a Rolex Submariner at the time!

Beautiful. But I always thought the crown needed to be a tad shorter and wider. Minor aesthetic anomaly though, I really like Royal Oaks and their boldness.
Ok ok so Holden I'm sick with jealousy! That watch with leather strap is my dream. I suppose I'll have to settle with my AT for Christmas Day. Hope everyone has a wonderful time.

Thanks, AA.

Is that the bigger size??
Regardless it looks good on your wrist (it looked too small on mine)
Thanks! No it's the 38.5mm
Christmas Day...?? Don't know yet...
But it's the Submariner for Christmas Eve :007)
