Funnily enough I met somebody the other day who had one of these on their wrist - it looked rather big (and he was a big guy). I no longer see the DSSD as huge however its interesting to see other people wearing the same watch, can look totally different from that perspective!!
I was surprised on a recent trip to see the latest Omega Chrono POs, they are about as chunky as the DSSD.
Yep, mine's from 2001 and the price seems good value now, although I paid a bit more than that, a few years ago.
You're right in that the just released SD 4000 116600 is just under £7k.
Tried it on already, but whilst it's a manageable size, I'm not keen particularly keen on the stubby lugs.
As watches are my main passion (well and electric guitars), there's always lots on the wish list!!
I'm getting to the stage where I've got to consider selling some pieces if I want to fund more though, particularly if I go for some 'grails'.
Anyway, plenty more watches to get through on this thread first.....I said, don't get me started! )
No snow down here yet but the temp is hovering around zero at night.
Wearing the Polar today which looks great in the snow!
Bought this watch on a whim, I got a great deal and expected that it would eventually be moved on however it has become one of my faves (was actually after the black version but the white surprised me)
I like the current Exp II as well. I tried the black version - as with all black vs white dials on the same watch, the black dial appears a little smaller on the wrist. The GMT hand is certainly much more distinctive than than the previous version and sets it well apart from the GMT master II
I keep thinking about selling my polar dial (although not to replace with the current iteration), as I don't currently wear it very often. It's just nice to have an Exp II though!
Will post my final Rollie, in a little while.

Wearing this all week. And it will annoy Bondtots so has an added bonus...
But I might wear this on Friday which will drive him nuts. Even if it is the only confirmed Rolex model that Bond has worn in the novels..

Deaver himself. Dell isn't the only one that knows him.
Was not aware that you are wearing boysize again. But somehow great match
Deaver may write officially(for money reasons) blessed novels but to put his "approval" as a confirmation for a "Bond novel worn" watch is widely spread if you are asking me
BTW, where are the luminous numerals on your Explorer? )

These Submariner Dates look so much better than the Subs without Date {[] {[]
Nice dial, Holden - but the lugs look a bit too rounded for my taste.
Thanks Bondtoys.
To be honest, I like the date and no date versions, but I particularly love the brushed silver date wheels with flat 3s & open 6s & 9s from this period - the best that Rolex ever fitted imo.
The dial is in perfect condition and is my favourite variant of the white 1680 dial, the second type - with the open 6s. The hands match perfectly, as well as the pearl on the original 'thick font' insert.
A pity about the lugs - the chamfers have gone; it's clearly been polished a few times - all before I owned it, but it's not too noticeable when on the wrist. Bracelet and endlinks are original to the watch. With preference, it would also have the original top hat crystal and 702 crown, rather than the service replacement crystal and a slightly later 703.
This is the trouble with vintage these days - trying to get one in totally original spec, with box, papers and associated ephemera is tough!
I too like the date version Better. {[] , I know nothing about watches, I just know what I like.
I like the No Date version better, it gives it a much cleaner dial especially because of the cyclops. However, both are fantastic watches but if I wanted a date version I like the look of the (old) seadweller a lot more.
if you don't like the Cyclope you can always have a domed crystal installed instead of the high top one and give it a more clean, Sea Dweller like look.
I don't like the Cyclope myself, when I'll be ready to pull the trigger on a 1680 red, I'll have the crystal swapped.
James Bond: I tend to notice little things like that - whether a girl is a blonde or a brunette...
Tiffany Case: And which do you prefer?
James Bond: Well, as long as the collars and cuffs match...

Anything new on the horizon or wish list?
Dont really find myself looking at anything at the moment so hopefully means the end of my watch buying lol (though an Explorer I does appeal to me)

Will chuck a diff watch on tomorrow for the thread, forgot to take the DSSD off last nite!
