Look at GF, LALD and TMWTGG. Some closeups and everybody knows which watch is on the wrist, even if you can't see differences from far away (even though it was uncovered in the case of TMWTGG, that the watch from the closeup is different to the normal watch.
Ah yes! I did hear something about Dell Deaton's latest big discovery.....
Higgins - Agreed, you know the feeling well
I haven't bought the SM300 LE Despite having most of the previous DC Bond watches, I just can't fall in love with this one and I'm not a fan of nato straps, other than on a 5517. So, I would only be buying it as a 'collectable' rather than to wear. Maybe I will change my mind when the film is out and I can't then get one! {:)
Holden. By live with. I mean, do you fear catching it etc. Can you wear it casually? Most importantly do you find yourself distracted by it because it's so beautiful?
I've got a lot of watches that I rotate, so can't really comment on it as a daily wearer, but because of the nature of brushed and polished parts on the AP, they can be scratch magnets - so naturally I tend to be careful with a £16.6K watch!
There are lots of more rugged and chunkier APs in the Royal Oak family, but the 'Jumbo' is the most 'beautiful', externally and movement, wise.
I agree on the JlC movement - but the Carbon watches are the most beautiful and interesting
And Ceramic bezels don't get scratched - waiting for AP starting Steel with black Ceramic bezels. They'll fly off the shelfs I say!

it is one of my favourites to like at. The price tag I can avoid looking at though. Now, I know you're a man of many watches, so I value your opinion, what are your thoughts on the rolex GMT master ii? I've been offered a good price on a recently serviced steel with Black and blue bezel (batman) and the steel and old with black bezel.
I am not so experienced like our friend Holden, but the GMT Master II is in my opinion the best Rolex that you get for your money.
Depends a bit on pricing - the old model 16710 should be at least US$ 2.500,-- less than the blue-black watch - otherwise get the BLNR.
Ceramic GMT II with black bezel can be had from US$ 5.000,-- but it's always good to ask here with pictures before buying.
If you buy preowned - make sure that the lugs are not polished down (happens often with the old model).
I won't buy without a proper warranty card - otherwise there is always the danger that the watch has been (reported) stolen.
Old model bezel inserts can be changed with little $$ and on new models, the polished center links can be easily brushed to make the entire bracelet matt.

thanks for the insight Higgins. personally I'm drawn to the two I mentioned for the aesthetics. I know there's a big difference in price, but I don't want the feeling of buying one then wishing I had the other! however that I wont really know until I try them. Preowned i'll certainly make sure that all box, papers and warranty card are inclusive, for me that goes without saying.
just out of curiosity, what in your opinion makes it the best rolex you can get for your money?

Because they are (almost) as robust like the Submariner - have the additional GMT functionality and go for significantly less money new (higher discounts) and used (lower prices) compared to a Submariner.

what sort of discount can you get on a new one? I couldn't imagine rolex allowing discounts?
Depending on where you are located - check the sales section from The Rolex Forum or Chrono24.com
New GMT IIs Ceramic (black) can be had at around US$ 6.500,--.
What's the offer for the blue-black GMT II that you've mentioned?
And why was it serviced and by whom?

I saw a couple on watchfinder, they said they would be able to go less than the asking price, within reason. Is chrono 24 a reputable source? heard mixed reviews personally.
Chrono24 is a marketplace - like ebay. So everything depends on the seller.
You should do a face - face transaction together with someone with experience for your first Rolex. Never buy online from a stranger.
Watchfinder seems to be reputable but high prices and sometimes sneaky.
So you are in the UK?

i prefer being able to buy face-face. when you say sneaky, what do you mean? price wise? or product wise? yes i am in the uk. I would buy new but with the potential to save almost £2000 with one only a couple years old is too tempting!

I've heard stories from watchfinder removing bracelet links from gold watches and then selling them for an extra charge to the customer afterwards.

it was one of the black blue ones on watchfinder, i enquired and they offered £5550, i didn't ask on the phone why it had been serviced, they may have meant it had been 'valeted'. I'm guessing their service centre.
Higgins is being rather modest when he says that he has less experience than me
He is the GMT king on here -{
A very practical Rolex with a nice complication. The red/blue bezel and the thought of Pan-Am pilots wearing them always appealed to me as a youngster.
I'm probably a little more conservative now, in that it's great having one as part of a collection, but I think I would get fed up of the bi-colour bezel if it was my only watch. The great thing about the pre-ceramic GMTs is the fact that as H has mentioned you can swap the bezel inserts, though. The ceramic models are also bigger, flashier and have polished centre links on the bracelet (which I'm not a personal fan of), but each to their own. The 'Batman' has certainly been a desirable version, since its release, but pre-ceramic 16710s have risen in price quite a bit over the last couple of years as well, particularly with the Pepsi bezel insert.
Anyway, here are my two - a 16710 from 2005 and a 1675 from 1966.

Not sure about the suggested retail in the UK, but that price does not sound overly attractive.
What you have to know is that the blue-black GMT is highly sought-after and recommends very high prices (close to msrp) even in the second-hand market.
The black bezel version can be had for significantly less.
At first - you should decide if you go with
- the old model (16710) slightly smaller- simpler (but imo better) bracelet, smaller lumemarkers on the dial
- or the new model 116710 which has the slightly beefier case, heavier bracelet and the Ceramic Bezel.
Depending on what your choice is, the next steps should follow.
Where exactly in the UK are you located - maybe an AJB member from the area is willing to come along with you on a face-to-face meetup?
