I know he was loaned the watch. I also know about the relative costs of automatic watches but I'm not a Watch Idiot Savant and have a different idea about "affordable." I rather enjoyed the comments in the other Tudor Black Bay review linked to in that article where one person makes the point he would never risk a $3000+ watch hiking; he'd wear a Seiko 5 or a G-Shock.

Not trying to start an argument, I just have a different viewpoint. I love seeing all your pictures of your various watches, so can we get the thread back on track?

    Nice reply WD, but unnecessary....

No one cares what 'ol two tonics thinks or writes....

However he is right regarding some members having a deep and expensive appreciation of watches.... Eg Dell Deaton :))

But I liked the WIS Monika, think it fits perfectly.

I'm usually wearing my Omega 2531 but sometimes wear my Benrus WWII/Vietnam era watch. Extremely reliable, both have never let me down.

The Benrus is almost identical to the one Steve McQueen wears in Bullitt, especially now its on a black leather strap. It looks good on the Connery style Nylon strap too, although I recently found out Bond didn't actually use a NATO in Goldfinger.

SM300 in character, I got a funeral this week so had a dry run this afternoon on the outfit - my uncle would see the humour in this (full picture of outfit to follow). Needless to say it involves white shirt with tie bar, three piece black suit, black overcoat and TF Snowdons (with the SM300 of course) he loved Bond took me to my first film at the cinema RIP fella

    Cheers :007)

Question for you watch experts...how does it work if I buy the Spectre LE at the Omega store in London as far as the 20% VAT being taken off....does that happen at the airport? Is it a pain in the ass? Anyone have experience doing this? Am I better off buying in the Amsterdam (will be there as well) airport or Heathrow on my way home?
  • Asp9mmAsp9mm Over the Hills and Far Away.Posts: 7,535MI6 Agent
It should happen at the airport. I've only ever been on the other end and filling out the paperwork for the buyer, but it seemed easy enough to claim back if the paperwork is filled in correctly. Plus you get free Bolly at the Bond St Boutique. Free strap too if you do the puppy eye thing. It's always a bonus to have your warranty stamped Bond St London. I've sold watches at a much higher premium just for having that on the warranty.

Only a short walk to the Regent Street one if not. It's a lot bigger so might have one in.

Yes. It has a different movement and visually, it does not have the date surround. On the strap, the centre links are now polished too.

Im still really undecided on the AT. In pictures it does nothing for me but in real life it looks 100 times better IMO. Still not sure i like it enough to buy one though

to those who have bought the Seamaster 300 SPECTRE edition, would you say it was totally worth the money? I'm currently very undecided wheter to get it from all my savings or not...

HTH it's a very subjective thing, what floats my boat might sink yours. I love mine and am at the moment wearing it for occasions and have my original Goldeneye Omega for daily use. I have also put on the Omega Non 007 NATO so to keep the 007 pristine. Haven't worn it on the bracelet yet. For me .... yep totally worth it, other views are available :v

I think if it's going to take up "all your savings' you might want to pump the brakes.

And what if - WHAT IF - SPECTRE is terrible? I love Skyfall so I can't say I regret buying some of those jackets ahead of time. But if in two months' time, you associate this watch with the worst Bond film you ever saw, you're going to feel a little deflated!

I love my SM300 almost my daily wear at present - I will gte an OEM NATO to preserve the 00 one (and for ultimate screen accuracy)

You only life once - lifes to short and regrets are always the things you have not done

Plus I suspect once the film shows next week these things will be selling like hot cakes

    Cheers :007)
