So you'll have to forgive my monetary limitations, but perhaps this will appeal to the Bond-On-A-Budget crowd such as myself. Just got this last week and I'm really loving it. Not quite a budget item but not a Rolex either. Hager is making some good stuff here in the states though.

I'm assuming it's an automatic your referring to? Anyway I've been a watch nut and Omega collector for years and I've always let mine wind down with crown in as opposed to pulling the crown stopping the movement and leaving the mainspring in a wound state for any length of time. I also keep my watches in their boxes in a dry, drawer not near any heat source like a radiator. Of course you could invest in a self winding case which will keep your watch permanently wound up. I had a friend who when he took his rolex off he put it on top of a big bose speaker in the window, it kept crap time and I'm sure the Uv light did it no favours.

I have been collecting watches for the last 25 years and storing watches with the crown pulled out is definitely a no-no.
One reason is that you are exposing not only the movement, but the dial and hands to humidity.
And the dial in a watch is everything...

Yet amazing how much the polished links on the non-LE make those look so bad
That is exactly the reason why I never pulled the trigger on the SM300. I like the face 'normal' version better with the smaller Omega branding, the 12 and the arrow second hand. But I absolutely hate the polished center links. Separately ordering the LE bracelet isn't an option so I have saved myself € 5000,- )

If it's a Rolex, there is no harm in leaving the crown pulled out.
On other brands/ models that way may get dust and humidity into the watch.
Here is no harm in just letting the watch run down with he crown in normal position, so relax and stay away from stopping the watch.

Cheers for the info gents. I only asked because i was out with my wife looking at a second hand Rolex a few days back and every watch in the shop had the crowns pulled out. It really put me off. I have always kept mine in when not in use.

I'm aware of the magnetic effect on the watches accuracy, the Uv rays of the sun's light degenerate the lume and in some cases face and bezel.
I bought the standard SM300 with the polished centre links and used a rubbing compound to give a brushed effect.

not really, I read about someone else who did it and posted pictures. I've since found out that omega will brush the centre links for you. Mine looks fine though.

The new Explorer makes Asp9mm crap one almost unsellable but he'll get the new one very soon.
Lesson learnt: follow my advise and pay once. Otherwise you pay twice
