Dufus - You Only Live Once (or twice for some) so why the hell not!
That was how I picked up my SPECTRE SM300 last year on a whim as I passed through duty free.
SMP was my very first nearly 20 years ago my how time flies it will serve you well especially now with the ceramic bezel.
Hoping to do the same in the near future as I pass through Heathrow in a few weeks

    Enjoy!

    Cheers :007)

Way to go! I did the same for my 50th this year, except a different watch - Brosnan's blue wave 300m. I am restoring it and all I need to do now is replace the bezel and it will look like it's 1999! Will post photos once done too.

A little help if anyone can as I've exhausted my lines of enquiry.
I've recently bought an smp 2254.80 the watch is all correct except the bezel /bezel insert, the numbering on the blue aluminium bezel is big like on the smp 2054.50, now I only thought that watch came in black? It's obvious the bezel or insert has been changed recently as it looks in too good condition compared to the rest of the watch, did omega offer a watch in blue with the oversized numbering? All I can find is a bezel insert from offrei which looks similar, I'm personally thinking someone in the past has fitted one of the cheap fake bezel inserts in which case I'll have to change it :# any info most appreciated.

    Do you have a picture?
I did this to mine some years back before they did a blue PO definitely an after market bezel insert
Even got a PO bracelet to fit as well with some help from AT end links.

    Cheers :007)

Had a proper look at it tonight as I only received last night, it's actually a 2220.80 I've got and it's in terrible condition, but it was cheap, and it definitely has an inferior after market bezel insert fitted badly , this was always going to be a restoration project watch, u was aware of its condition before I bought it. So new crystal, new bezel insert and I may reface it with the later face that has the metal omega logo, and after some serious de scratching I will put up some pics.

That's the CR co axial 2500 watch if I remember rightly update to the Brosnan SMP and link between old and new. I love the applied indices. Restoration projects can be fun but parts are becoming a real issue since Omega stopped supplying parts to 3rd parties and places like Otto Frie - good luck I hope it goes well

    Keep us posted with pictures

I will, hopefully between cousins, ofrei and a contact I have in Australia I hopefully will get the bits I need, I agree completely, the applied indices really look good against the wave dial IMHO.

Well I've already fired off parts requests to a few companies including all the ones I've mentioned and Ernst Westphall in hamburg, already sourced a dial with omega sign indice and a crystal, just now hunting for a bezel insert or complete bezel. With any luck I will get the parts next week and do the work over the Christmas holidays :)

It was actually my dad's watch - he got it back in late 70s / early 80s - I don't recall - he gave the piece to me I would say around 1990

This theme came up in a specific sale thread and I don't want to derail further.General inquiry of omega owners did your appreciation of a film influence your choice in the watch? In my case Skyfall my favorite and I loved the look of the PO. But also liked CR and Q of S ( yes I know I may be in an exclusive club) so it wouldn't have been too tough to go for a CR or Q of S PO L if I hadn't been able to get the skyfall.

Not at all. For me it's the design features and the James bond tie in as opposed to the actual film, qos is not a popular film (I personally love it) but the planet ocean le from that film has a walther grip inspired dial, if you like the idea of that as it's such a strong general bond tie in then you'd still buy the watch. Of course that's just the le's. Screen accurate watches will certainly be less desirable if the the film is unpopular. Of course certain watches achieve high status if they are used in the film like the submariner in lald or the smp in goldeneye or even the SM300 in sp.
