Hey AJB, it's been too long I've been lurking on this thread.
I know it's not Wednesday, but I just finished building a blog to search for the best vintage watches for sale by others around the internet and present them to any readers. I'd hope some of you, my fellow enthusiasts, might find it useful. It's all for fun just to give something back to the community. I'm just getting going but aiming to provide a lot of value to you all and would like to hear your thoughts!
Cant go big today, so will have to bring it home with a little something instead. )
Just damn beautiful man! Definately one of my favorite watches hands down, the style I mean. I'm a little behind on the whole Spectre "third" watch thing. I know jamesBondLifestyle has it identified as a vintage watch, but does Omega make watches like this anymore or do we have to go vintage to get the look? Any help from the watch experts would be greatly appreciated, as I want to put this one on the list of must haves.

This a 1996 Deville chronograph 861 caliber hand wind so not too old. And not crazy money these days.

Watch question. I found a WWI watch I really like for Me. Vesper. It is a Longines brand (never heard of it.) The case is orginal as well as the face and the dial. The crystal is a replacement and also the internal mechanisms. The insides were replaced in 1972. Is that a big deal? I also have never heard of this company. Granted I can list maybe 5.
Firstly, I'd say that's a pretty cool watch and looks good.
Longines are a quality Swiss watch manufacturer and have been in the business for 185 years! https://www.longines.com
They're now part of the Swatch Group.
Now, there are purists who say that you shouldn't touch this watch as it is not original but you're unlikely to find an such an original in good working condition. Think of it as having been serviced, with a few replacement parts prolonging it's interesting life.
Personally, if you like it and it keeps good time, I'd say go for it! It's a beautiful and interesting, quality timepiece!
I agree with uncle 27, its obviously an honest watch as you're aware of the replacement parts. Swapping the crystal is no bug deal, for a purist collector this watch is a non starter and it's value is decreased by the non original movement. But IMHO I'd be happy with it, if one of my watches suffered a ruined movement would I bin it or fix it? I'd fix it but would obviously never attempt to pass it off as a fully original watch. Movements are a collection of parts, parts will fail eventually and we replace those parts when needed.
Does it still have a longines movement? If so is it the same model movement as was originally fitted?
Thank you Chris and UNCLE for the help and thoughtful response.
The new(ish) inner workings are the same company. I am not sure if it is the same model. Would that matter? All things considered it is a good price and much more streamline than other WWI watches. I just do not want to make an epic mistake at this price point.
I'm guessing as the seller is making it known about the replacement parts /movement it has been priced accordingly. A mistake would be paying for a completely original watch to later find out the movement is not original.
As it has a Longines movement, chances are it is the same or upgraded (to 1972 spec) given that it has to fit that specific case. It doesn't actually matter as you've been made aware it is not the original movement. So long as it works, keeps good time and you're happy with the watch (and the price) I don't think you can make a mistake. An unusual and interesting watch.
As we are on with vintage watches, here are a couple of mine, junghans 15 jewels dating from the 1930's I believe, and a late 60"s rotary automatic Swiss made 21 jewel.

Thanks man! That is a really nice one, I like it more than the new ones. -{
Yes beautiful watch, and looks magnificent on the brown leather. I love older omegas, the movement seem to have a more substantial and unique sound to them.
I have a slightly later deville. On a matte lizard strap.
That's a nice Deville as well Chris! Those old watches are old, old man. That's pretty cool. Looks like you found them in a shipwreck or something. 1930's! Cool man.

Great, now I found myself looking for the watch as I really fell in love with it. Sadly I couldn't find it...yet :-)
