TB - "For King and Country"??? What on Earth???

I was watching TB earlier today, and I picked up on Bond's "What I did tonight was for King and Country" remark to Fiona.

This has left me confused.com. :s King George VI died in 1952, thereby leaving Elizabeth II to assume the throne; more than a decade before TB went into production.

I'm not aware of how British society and attitudes were in 1965, so older (British) forumites here might shed some light on this matter. Was this anachronism meant to be intentional, or unintentional?

It's an old expression in the UK, might have started as a propaganda slogan
in the first world war or something like that. :D

Bearing in mind the Queen was a bit of a looker back then, and known to attend the premieres, it might have been deemed a bit saucy or open to misinterpretation.
"This is where we leave you Mr Bond."

To me the Queen is still a Looker, and it should be treasonous to think otherwise. ;)

I would've thought that line was to show how chauvinistic Bond is.
Have you ever heard of the Emancipation Proclamation?"

    " I don't listen to hip hop!"

No way, Bond is incredibly sensitive and completely in touch with his feminine side. ;)

Has anyone considered the possibility that Connery's line was simply a blooper? ?:)

Nah, it was just an often-used expression which dates back centuries, much like the line from Shakespeare's Henry V "Cry England, Harry and St George!"
"How was your lamb?" "Skewered. One sympathises."
