After visiting Crockett and Jones this week to have a look at some Highbury shoes and the Tetbury boots, I ended up walking away with a pair of Highbury shoes. The Tetbury's are on backorder at the moment and I have been told its a 4-6 week wait.
Very happy with my purchase, they are exceptionally well made.

I know, I couldn't believe it when I tried them on. It felt like they had already been worn in.
Very impressed with it. Its been a lot more stable than the leather or wooden shoe soles in the current climate.
Dainite soles are amazing! I find that they can be a little stiff compared to leather at first, but they have great traction and look nice too. Your Highburys are beautiful shoes! I've been thinking of having some of my Crockett & Jones shoes resoled with Dainite. Where do you find shoes with wooden soles? Some leather soles are painted to look like wood, but no good shoemakers do wooden soles.
I have some Oliver Sweeney boots, which seem like they have a wooden sole.
Are you sure they aren't leather? Oliver Sweeny's leather soles are painted on the sides to look like wood, as many good shoemakers do. If they are indeed wood, be careful with the splinters when the soles wear down!
In the phases of walking there is a Stance phase and a Swing Phase. Your foot will undergo 5 phases duing stance. Heel strike, Early flatfoot, Late flatfoot, Heel rise, and finally Toe off. For the first 3 phases during stance, the shoe needs to be rigid. However for the final 2 phases the shoe needs to be flexible, but only in the distal 1/3 part of the shoe so you can flex the MT joint.
To keep the heel rigid many bootmakers use either an iron clip (C&J, JL, ect.) or wood (VASS for example). Sometimes this wood remains visible... -{
The only complete wooden shoes I know

I recently managed to pick up a pair of brand new Highbury's for an excellent price online. In my rush to grab them before they were picked up by someone else however, I didn't wait around and message the seller with any questions or ask for any further pictures. This was a bit of a rookie error as the listing did not have any pictures of the soles but as the description said Vibram rubber (and I thought the Highbury's only came with the one sole) I just assumed they were dainite. When I recieved them the other day though, I saw they were C&J's rubber EVA soles.
eg: <– Not Highbury’s
It was a bit disappointing at first—and quite surprising as I didn't think the Highbury's came in anything but dainite—but hey, while the soles aren't SA, they can't be seen and they can be changed down the track if I wanted so it doesn't really bother me. Anyway my question! Has anyone had experience with this type of EVA soles on C&J or any other shoes?? How well do they last? How's the grip? etc
You could always get dainite soles fitted when you’ve worn out the existing ones and have them resolved
EVA is something different.
