DAF Rig Anti-Climax

I've stated before in a previous thread how I feel DAF is a terrible yet enjoyable Bond film.
There's scenes I love scattered throughout the film (including the dialog):
The lift fight in Amsterdam
Bond getting cremated
The whole G section scam "ah yes how are things in G section?" )
Bond hanging outside the White House


But when it comes to the "Climax" of the film on Blofeld's rig it turns from a humorous entertaining film to a bloody joke.
The dialog is awful > "Hi Ernst" "Can I tag along Earst"
The special effects are unintentionally laughable
Bond does sod all to impress us
Blofeld's demise isn't worthy of a looney tunes cartoon lol

I can take the humour throughout the first 2 acts of the film but I felt the producers should've knuckled down and give us a thrilling climax and get rid of Blofeld in the best way possible...instead we've got campy quips left, right and centre and a grey haired Connery acting pretty clueless... Miss Case also. Worst. Bond Ending. Ever (Wint and Kidd's demise was dire too imo)

True it's not a patch on OHMSS but I do have a soft spot for it.
I think Wint and Kidd are great creepy henchmen. Although I do
agreed the ending shows where much of the budget was saved )

As much as I enjoy DAF, I have to agree that the climax was very weak.

+1, I remember on first seeing TMWTGG how small the big finish looked, very disappointing, for
me at least.

Yep. TMWTGG's climax was extremely lacklustre but I prefer it simply for the fact that it was taken pretty seriously for the most part. DAD's climax was also garbage but it's not lacklustre by any means imo

I wasn't horribly bothered by the climax of Diamonds are Forever. Of course, what we were shown is a truncated version of what was in the script. The special effects were more or less par for the 70s -- they're almost as bad five years later in Black Sunday. For whatever reason, the film world took a big detour into cheapville when it came to such things during that decade, at least until Star Wars appeared and suddenly made special effects more important than story, character, dialogue, direction, etc.
