When Was 007 At His Least Bond-Like?

Agent 00 FrogAgent 00 Frog Edinburgh, ScotlandPosts: 122MI6 Agent
As the title suggests, there have been a few times throughout the films when 007 doesn't act the way we expect him to. My vote goes towards in Octopussy, when he runs up to the American general to tell him about the bomb instead of continuing to pursue it himself.

Afraid Craig gets my vote a few times, though supposedly he gets a free pass cos he's not quite Bond yet, it's his learning curve.

Going along with the William Tell Severine moment with no attempt to delay with chit chat or even show much unease, anger or remorse. But then going out there without even a gun to his name is something Moore would have hestitated to do in his silliest films. Earlier, standing by to watch while an assassination unfolds. Nice....

And Dalton going all soppy over Kara when she plays the cello, later telling her 'It was equisite' though not quite sure if he isn't acting the part to win her over, he is misleading his intentions there anyway. :s

Connery going bashful in NSNA with Fatima Blush around.

In my opinion that was Moore in one of his most Bondian moments.
I think Bond dressed as a clown gets my vote.

    Good one!

I was tempted to post Bond singing in "Dr. No," but I rather like how he has a lot more dimension in the early Bonds than later, when he basically becomes a type.

Bond has a good voice. Man of many talents :)) I'll go with Bond crapping himself when Bunt captures him in OHMSS

For me its just about the feel of the movies. Like for example MR, DAD, and QOS do not remind me of a Bond film in any way.

Dunno, guess you'd say the same about May Day switching sides. Personally I like how some villains can change sides according to their situation. I think Amis does a chapter on it in his Bond book, how some of Bond's allies might, in another context, be his enemy.

For me, Bond was at his least Bond- like at the Shaolin temple in TMWTGG. The two girls take on every fighter in the temple while Bond stands by and does nothing - except push the last guy over.

What were they thinking when they wrote that scene? :(

The uncontrollable weeping over M is seriously un-Bond-like.

I wouldn't have called it 'uncontrollable', and some of it may also have been water from the lake. And I'd say shedding a tear at the death of someone you're close to isn't a sign of weakness. On the contrary it makes Bond more human without detracting from his general "Bond-ness"... IMO.

I disagree, especially when considered within the context of the Bond-M relationship that developed over the course of Craig's three Bond films. And I wouldn't exactly called that "uncontrollable" weeping.

Others have said it, but for me it's the entire sequence in TMWTGG that begins with Bond letting the karate girls fight on his behalf, then running like a dork to the boat, and finally pushing of the the poor kid who helped him. Not our hero's finest hour.

Perhaps, but there was never meant to be a "relationship" in the first place beyond a superior-subordinate relationship. Maybe part of the reason why I thought Bond shouldn't, or wouldn't have shed a tear over M's death is because I do not agree with the direction the producers took the Bond-M relationship. It shouldn't have been anything other than a boss-subordinate relationship.

So - assuming you get on with your boss and quite like them - if they died violently and you felt some sense of responsibility for their death, you wouldn't feel or show any grief? Wow, hat's pretty cold ( and unrealistic IMO).

Personally I prefer the direction the films have taken - Bond is more believable and the characterisation improved over some of the earlier scripts.
