Favorite Skyfall coat and why

With the recent sale going on I couldn't resist - finally pulled the trigger on the Billy Reid after a year of drooling over all of yours!

For me, this is the quintessential Bond coat of the film. Please chime in with your favorite coat of the film and why!

My best to everyone on the forum for a safe and most happy holiday season!

You guys have gotten me through a few really tough years recently with all of your respect and admiration for this wonderful world that we are all able to actually touch thanks to people like David Z. and everyone else!

Cheers!

By the way.. to answer your original question.. I own the Barbour Tokito and the Menlo.. (well.. I had a Menlo from Mr Porter.. returned it.. and bought the correct edition Menlo from a member here.. but it won't be here for a bit).. anyhow.. having worn a Menlo briefly and owned the Barbour for some time I say the Barbour hands down… just a good rugged jacket that is practical too.. I wear it daily.. as it is a hunting jacket it takes a beating well.. I wear it like I would any utilitarian piece of clothing.. the Menlo I foresee only carefully wearing… I am VERY tempted to snag the Reid now.. (thanks for the heads up buddy).. I would foresee that one being a standard go to for colder days… but imagine the Barbour will remain my favorite… As a side note the portion of the film when the Barbour is worn is also my favorite portion of the film for a number of reasons.. so not only is the style and practicality of that jacket high in my opinion.. it holds a significance in terms of my Bond appreciation as well..

Not sure. I wanted to call them this afternoon and ask but I got out of work too late. I thought someone said Fri? At $551.00 it's the least expensive out of all three and IMHO for the weather here in Boston the best for me!

I hear you on the Barbour! That one I really like! I'm glad you're enjoying it. Toward your appreciation for that jacket and it's significance; the Shanghai scene I love because of the "stage" Bond is in. Fighting his way back!

He looks like a cold, dark bastard in that scene... One who doesn't exactly get it right (Patrice dies) but he's moving forward!

The Barbour is, in my experience, a warmer coat than the Reid.

I guess the Billy Reid is better for all occassion e.g. Casual and Formal whilst the other two would not look to good in formal attire :)

Lucky enough to have all 3, 4 if you count the Commander....

Worn the Menlo in Spring / Autumn (cold up here in the UK's NE) and the same with the Billy Reid, I have every piece of the Shanghai and wear the whole lot and looks fantastic.....

But.... its the Barbour for me. My To Ki To is worn very sparingly but wear the Commander all the time. Warm, rugged and fits SA ! Cant get my legs in to Iggys but have everything else and pair up with some 7fam slim fit black cords, my fave full outfit for everyday use.....

Wishing all the great members on here a very festive Xmas and all the best for a prosperous and hopefully start of filming 2014 !!!

The peacoat and Barbour are around the same level of formality. Neither works too well with tailored clothing underneath. However, in the book Gentleman. A Timeless Guide to Fashion, author Bernhard Roetzel writes that a Barbour coat is appropriate in any situation, from casual to black tie. He writes that you're never poorly dressed in a Barbour. Thus, I'd have to go with the Barbour as my favorite. It's about time Bond wore one!

Do you really believe this. that wearing traditional British COUNTRY kit "is appropriate to any situation...etc"????? ?:) :s

The Billy Reid, because its my fav scene in the film and probably my favorite Bond outfit ever. Bond looking that well dressed but having stubble was just a badass look.

Roetzel writes "Absurd though it may seem, it is better to appear at an evening social event in sweater, jeans, and a Barbour than wearing the wrong shoes or a badly cut tuxedo. Throughout Europe the Barbour is something like an entrance ticket to high society, and if the other detials - the wristwatch for example - are also right, then the wearer of the famous waxed jacket will be treated courteously in even the most exclusive stores."

I don't know if Roetzel is exaggerating, but at least in some communities the Barbour is a piece of royalty. I'd guess for what he says to be true, one already needs to be a part of high society. It's not something I'd recommend doing, but nevertheless, it's something that appears to exist.

My favourite coat is in the closing scene when Bond is in the overcoat, looking out over London.
    Awesome.

I love an overcoat, scarf and gloves worn over my suit when negotiating my way to and from work through the greatest city in the world!

    Merry Christmas everyone.

I think Mr Roetzel is rather mistaken, perhaps even deluded.

Certainly in the UK, a Barbour jacket is a piece of ultiltarian country kit, most often worn in extreme forms of outdoor work such as farming, though I do concede some who have never been near the countryside have appropriated such jackets.

Whether this make a Barbour "suitable for all situations", I'd very much dispute. Even JB is not claiming that in SKYFALL...

The Barbour, for sure. Love it, and wear it every day.

I think at least for mainland Europe, the brand definitely is more than a utilitarian brand, so it's partly true that it has a certain high class status, and would be appropriate for more than just a walk in the countryside. But of course it's not the ideal formal piece either. I think what is said here is that you could come to a social gathering of the highest class in a Barbour and be respected if no formal wear is required. I wouldn't walk the red carpet in a green Barbour, although it would make a pretty cool statement. Note that the Barbour is now also available in blue, maybe already one step closer to formal ;-)

The Billy Read has grown on me, I like it a lot with the rest of the Shanghai outfit.

I wish I had the long coat from the rooftop scene, that one would probably be very nice.

I have the Billy Reid, Barbour and until recently the Menlo however, the over coat he wears looking out over London would be my favourite! Stunning ;%

I've recently started wearing my Barbour (weather in Scotland is pityful at the moment! :# ) after it had been stored safely away for too long. I've worn the Billy Reid more often than not and love it too!

I would say I wear my SkyFall jackets in this order, most to less...BR Peacoat, Barbour, Menlo, Training jacket.... For me the BR makes me look put together even when I am not...it add a flattering shape...the Barbour, the warm and rugged, makes me feel and look in line for action, movement, or hiking...so for me, its part what mood I am in, and part what situation I will be in...

I most often wear the barbour and the pt jacket.(I still have the one I was issued). I agree with DZ. the cut of the Billy Reid is very flattering. It can be dressed up or down. I wear it less frequently because I think it's so special. I suppose my personal order would be: barbour BR menlo PT..... I'm not fortunate enough to have the overcoat and wouldn't have much occasion to wear one anyway!

Not my favorite, but I've been wearing my Menlo a lot lately. It's not getting particularly cold in Alabama this year, so I've had little reason to wear the Billy Ried or the Barbour. Though last year, when it was 20 degrees and below most of the winter, the Billy Ried was def a nice jacket to have.

    I don't know, I can't decide. Those 3 tie for first.

What I also like about it is that there's an overcoat to suit every budget

My BR came yesterday - wow! My dearly departed tailor would definitely have given the thumbs up to the construction of this coat!

End ran out of the Barbour in my size, and I'm still on the waitlist at Barbour here in Boston - they said it would probably be early next year! :( I searched online and found ONE medium in stock at a store and then noticed that it's right here in Boston! Picking it up this afternoon! Christmas has come early!
