I need your help to get Ian Fleming a posthumous knighthood

I am disgusted to learn that Ian Fleming has gone un-noticed by the government and crown. Ian Fleming did not just create James Bond he also created Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and on top of this served his country with highest dignity during world war 2. Mr Flemings own work within Naval Intelligence saved lives and helped bring the war to an end. Yet they hand out knighthoods willy nilly to sportsmen and actors one of which for playing Mr Fleming's creation. Lets put this right and sign this petition to present to downing street http://www.petitions24.com/sir_ian_fleming please spread this bond fans around all the forum and social network sites this is your mission!. :)

Sadly (and I stand to be corrected on this), I'm fairly sure that there's very little chance of this happening. I know of a number of similar cases that have been brought to the fore & they've fallen on stoney ground - the former legendary Liverpool football manager Bob Paisley springs to mind recently.

Sorry to sound like I'm potentially slashing on your chips, but the way they govern this doesn't appear to allow for such cases sadly ... No matter how worthy the case.

Agreed, I don't think you can get a posthumous knighthood, as when you die you stop being a Knight.
    But I could be wrong.

Ens007 and Thunderpussy are correct. There is no way to posthumously award a knighthood to anyone. Although knighthoods have been given to deceased people, in all cases the honours were offered-to and accepted-by the individual prior to their death, it was only the public announcement of the award that was made after their death. Any petition is a waste of time as the rules governing peerage will not change and if they did, can you imagine how wide the flood gates would open? Thanks to the internet, millions would push for awards for the flavour-of-the-month recently-deceased celebrity rather than the truly deserving. I in no way suggest that Fleming is not worthy because literary skills aside, he has been a fantastic ambassador for the UK and a money-maker for the economy for decades if nothing else, but he has wonderful company amongst the non-knighted.

As said above...it can't happen....and Thunderpussy is correct - for once :D - once you die, you are no longer a knight of the realm.

You mean that we have to kill TP - and would it be only for the reason (or better excuse) to prevent that he's getting knighted :D

I knew that it exists: Murder in good faith :D

Luckily I don't agree with the Honours system, so you can lift the contract. :p :))

It probably won't happen, but I'm willing to sign
The petition anyway. As a sign of good faith.

Which is nice of you...but as already explained...its impossible to knight a dead person....once you die you stop being a knight of the realm...so this is, I'm afraid, pointless.

We could counter this and really annoy the establishment, if we can get 20,000 people to sign saying they believe that Flemmings books are the bible and 007 is their god the law of the UK would have to acknowledge the existance of the Bond Religion LOL!

You know, Canonization is posthumous, so maybe we should be pushing for Saint Fleming?

(Patron saint of Martinis, girls and guns?) :s
