Yes, but the TJ Maxx site isn't nearly as comprehensive as the TK Maxx site, so pics of what is seen in store is greatly appreciated. Especially since some of us are not near a TJ Maxx and would have to travel some distance.
Tyler, was the Enjoying Death alternative you saw at TJ Maxx the same one as linked upthread to TK Maxx?
Hello everybody,
after receiving my Churches Ryder III i want to give you a side by side comparison to the often mentioned John White Westbury and Loake Kamptons.
John White Westbury 44F | Loake Kempton 44F | Church Ryder III 44G
in my opinion the John White Westburys are still the best cheaper alternative to the Church's.
I have wide feet so the Ryder III in G width fits me perfect and very comfy.
The Westbury's have a softer leather material and hence are snug too. Colour is extremly close (may differ since its a natural material ) )
The Kemptons are a bit to small for me in the front and have minor differences (3 holes and different colour) but quality wise extremely good.
Found an almost identical cardigan to Q's DVN; the red and blue stripes, double zipper, pockets, shoulder detail. Only problem is the colour!... By a company called David Watts, and for the look, it's a bargain at ~£25 in the UK.
Hi all,
I have gotten a lot of value out of reading these threads, so I thought I would give back a little. Here is a BIG list of some shoe options. Few quick disclaimers:
1. Most of these are only available in the U.S. from sites I don't see mentioned here often. A couple are from UK sites. I have accounts on some of these sites, but I tried to sign out before I collected the links. Long story short, I am NOT affiliated or receiving money from anyone for sharing these.
2. I am not in any way saying these are SA or of the same quality as the real things. But almost everything listed here is under $100 on sale, with a few creeping up to $150.00 (remember: on a budget). I figure once you cross the $200 threshold, you may as well save up for the real thing. On the same note, I have tired (in my own personal searches) to find options that approximate the real shoes/boots as much as possible (for example, the toe shape and dress heel on the Tetbury, or the black rubber sole on the Riders instead of lighter crepe sole).
3. Of the ones listed here, I personally own: the florsheim jet chukkas, the geox londras (I bought a geox model like the londra back in 2008 and they have been great), the clarks bush acre 2's. The option I have for the Islay is no longer available.
4. Sorry in advance for the length of the links. Just don't have time to shorten all of them.
Hope someone finds something useful here! If the do prove useful, I can put together another list for clothing I have seen in my searches.
Ongoing with the search. Here are some options I have found for the Barbour X To Ki.
Obviously, this is the hardest one to find a match for. I tried to keep the pricing below $150.00, but some get up to the $250.00 range (still half the price of the Barbour).
Finding the combination of simpler blazer design in waxed cotton in the right color and fitted style is next to impossible. I most often found more traditional “Barbour” style barn coats with corduroy collars, basic travel blazers, or waxed cotton field jackets with busier military details. The first four are the closest I saw in my searches:
These other options either have the blazer style, the fitted look or the waxed cotton. Couldn’t find any others with all three and sometimes the right color (dark olive/dark brown) is not available.
Lots of other basic brown leather jackets, but here are some that have kind of the same look and/or fit: open bottoms (no elastic), with simple pockets and the short style collar. Some of these are also made with vintage/distressed leather, but they tend to be the more expensive options.
Posted this on another thread, but thought some might get use out of it here too. Its my frugal version of the CR Sunspel outfit.
Shirt - Sunspel - 135$-150$: I got the right shirt because I just don't think any alternative works well. I can't recommend these shirts enough either. I've heard mixed reviews about these shirts, but from my experience, I've owned 3 now (2 navy, 1 sky), they last and stay good a very long time if you wash only by hand in very cold water and let them hang dry.
Pants - Levis 511 - 40$-50$: Slim fit trousers. Unfortunately, I cant remember the exact model. These fit tight, but don't have the "boot" cut bottom; but, I can live with that... for now
Shoes - Alfani Lane Suede Chukka boots - 50$-70$: I was hesitant about getting these at first, but I finally pulled the trigger and have no regrets. I have dark brown Clarks, so that's all I can compare them too. They are more of a structured boot, and, for the price, keep very well.
Watch - Invicta pro diver 8926ob - 70$-90$: This was my first diver/Bond watch. I've had it for about 2 years now. I have had no problems with the watch. I go swimming with it and it has not fogged. I have it on the Spectre NATO, which is a great sporty approximation to the rubber strap. I switch out to the Connery NATO for my Connery inspired outfits.
Glasses - Persol PO3028S 24/31 - 200$-300$: These are my only sunglasses at the moment, so I wear them with everything. They are not as sporty as the correct ones, but what can ya do? I bought this model because I love the folding feature and they are my alternative to the Goldeneye Persol.
I recently got this Seiko 5 Sports watch off Amazon. To me, I think it captures the look of the Craig era Omegas. I also picked up a grey/black nato strap to complete the Spectre look.
The Seiko 5 looks great. I agree with you about it being the best Craig era Frugal bond watch. I have been contemplating getting it as my next watch because of the style, and I've heard that the Seiko quality is unbeatable for the price. However, I have some reservations about getting it because it's only 100M and it doesn't have a screw down crown. Some reviews online say they wouldn't even go swimming with this watch, but I think that's a little overboard. 100M should be good enough for swimming and snorkeling, which is all I need it for. But, being an engineer, and yet not knowing much about watch crowns, the lack of a screw down feature does worry me. How has your experience been with this watch. I really want to get one, but I have been wondering about these concerns.
Not having a screw down crown is one of my concerns. I haven't had a chance yet to swim with it, I just got it this week. I'm confident it'll be fine though. I also own an older seiko from the late 90's that has held up nicely. It's the main reason I went for seiko again for a new watch.
I have two Seiko divers. The SKX007 and the Orange Monster. Both are great watches but I like the Monster a bit more because of its special look. However, the SKX007 might be the better choice as a frugal Bond watch. I especially like it on its rubber strap. It is 200m water resistant and has a screw down crown.

These were discounted to $16.79 and free shipping with Prime today.... they seem like a good alternative to what he wears when he meets Mathis in Quantum of Solace.
Recently I was perusing LandsEnd.com and came across some great budget alternatives for those looking to wear the Bond style without the hefty price tags. Apologies if these have been posted already.
Here is a great Crew Neck that would make a nice N.Peal substitute:
I believe that this swimming shorts are a really good and cheap alternative to the skyfall orlebar brown short. They are availables in several colours but the sky blue is the closest.

I picked up a pair of the Swim-ology shorts and they are great (but a very small fit: 33" waist = size large). They usually have them on sale for around $50 on ebay. Sorry cant post pics, on my phone. But here is a link:

Just a note on those lands end shorts: earlier reviews (which have since been removed from the product page) were very critical of the fabric.
Thanks for the head's up. I just checked Land's End and they only have good reviews for the swim trunks. What's weird is that I've noticed a few other products that have negative reviews. I wonder why they removed the bad reports for the shorts?

Honestly can't say. I looked at the LEs as an option earlier this year (around April) and all the reviews said the fabric felt like the plastic used in a kiddie inflatable pool and the shorts had a 1.5 star rating. Looking at the product page now, all the reviews shown are from the last month, which is weird for a summer product.
Here are some others that I looked at, and almost all of them are on sale now. As I said above, I ended up going with the Swim-ology shorts from an ebay seller. The company I bought them from was really great with communication and general Customer Service. And the shorts are great!
Same style and name as the ones you posted; I thought you were just sharing a different color of the same short, but it turns out the material is different. Apologies for the confusion!

i just received the TJ Maxx shirt and here is a small comparison pic as promised.
its a good deal for a "every day low budget alternative" )
It was listed from Tennyson a bit further in this Thread
http://www.tkmaxx.com/view-all-mens-clothing/sky-blue-floral-print-shirt/invt/47134142
That's REALLY close. What a steal!
Now it just needs to show up in TJ Maxx here in USA!
Random question: if by some miracle you buy 2, can't a tailor add 2 shirt pockets just like the actual Zara shirt?
Great find thanks

Best match I found by a long shot was from Eddy Bauer, the Journeyman leather jacket; distressed leather, open bottom, shirt collar, action back and has the side tab adjusters ($340):

Lots of other basic brown leather jackets, but here are some that have kind of the same look and/or fit: open bottoms (no elastic), with simple pockets and the short style collar. Some of these are also made with vintage/distressed leather, but they tend to be the more expensive options.

In a little over 2 months loads of people have commented on it, not just as a nice looking watch and strap, but 'wow, isn't that the new bond watch'
These were discounted to $16.79 and free shipping with Prime today.... they seem like a good alternative to what he wears when he meets Mathis in Quantum of Solace.
Here is a great Crew Neck that would make a nice N.Peal substitute:

How about V-Neck in black to capture that Shanghai look? Or perhaps a Midnight Burgundy for a golf outing with Mr. Goldfinger:

Nice. But how I'd wish to find one with a shawl collar anywhere...

Your link is broken. I assume you were linked to these?

Bond: “I must be dreaming.”

Swim-ology (these are from the same seller where I got mine, but there are some others on ebay): http://www.ebay.com/itm/NWT-Swim-Ology-Deep-Blue-Surf-Swim-Trunk-Bathing-Suit-Board-Shorts-Pants-Size-M-/231466363174?hash=item35e4786926
Hope it helps!
EDIT Sorry, a mistake on my part about the LE Shorts; the bad reviews were for these ones:
http://www.landsend.com/products/mens-5-solid-monterey-swim-shorts/id_278665
Same style and name as the ones you posted; I thought you were just sharing a different color of the same short, but it turns out the material is different. Apologies for the confusion!
