I assume "Dieppe Uncovered" is a TV programme. I read somewhere that a large part of the motivation for the raid was to capture the Enigma code. Fleming was on one of the ships offshore monitoring the raid. Am I right and what more did you learn?
Yes that was it. The raid was a cover to get intelligence but had been kept secret so most involved knew nothing and in general it was always seen as a bit if disaster. Where as had it been a success would have saved lots of lives.

Yes all very sad indeed and such bravery from those involved
