If Moore had only done four...

Rog was originally going to do 4 Bond pictures. How would you feel if he only did LALD, TMWTGG, TSWLM, and MR ? A pair of campy, cool, strange Guy Hamilton flicks and a pair of slick, big budget Lewis Gilbert adventures. No John Glen trilogy from the 80s. Would he be well remembered if Moonraker was his final film? Would history be kinder to him if he quit while he was ahead?
Obviously the anti-Moore crowd would like as few a possible, but that's not the point here. 8-)
Unfortunately, Rog aged dramatically between Moonraker and FYEO and thus looked too old to be believable for all 3 of his 80's films. Still, he delivered some of his best 007 performances and FYEO and OP are fairly well regarded amongst fans. (At this point AVTAK only has a small cult following. hehe)
Not sure what Dalton's status was in the early 80's, but after seeing Josh Brolin's screen test for Octopussy, I'm thankful Roger stuck around.
If you could choose only 4 Roger Moore films what would they be? Would you skip the first two and select the 1977-1983 era? Or customize it like TMWTGG, TSWLM, FYEO, OP ?
If I had to pick only 4 I would go with TSWLM, MR, OP, AVTAK.
(While I'm rewriting history 1970-1975 should have been Lazenby territory)

Hmmm..... I would definitely go for the period of '77 to '83 (TSWLM, MR, FYEO and OP).
Two fantastic, out-of-this-world popcorn films, one very good espionage outing, and one excellent, entertaining family adventure film. -{
IMO the very best of Moore right there. :007)
TSWLM: The Best Moore film this is how a big budget Bond should be
FYEO: Closest Moore got to a dark Bond film and arguably his best Performance as Bond
Octopussy: Should of ended here in the actual run but after recent viewings I actually quite like this one.
I don't have TMWTGG or MR but I really hate AVTAK. The 4 I feel are his strongest outings as Bond
Ideally Dalton should have done FYEO... But Moore is pretty good in that film. It's probably his best performance as 007.
Moore gets some unfair stick. I'd say any blame for lacklustre elements in the '80s Bonds is down to John Glen.
So.. in answer to the question, the 4 films I'd pick are.... well just look at my signature!
1 - Moore, 2 - Dalton, 3 - Craig, 4 - Connery, 5 - Brosnan, 6 - Lazenby
LALD, TMWTGG, FYEO, OP
I agree with your choices, although I would choose LALD mostly for the villains (Kananga, Tee Hee and Baron Samedi)

Good solid logic. I like your picks. How do you think the 77-83 era would compare with Brosnan's 4-film era?
1. GE 2. MR 3. OP 4. TMWTGG 5. TSWLM 6. TND 7. TWINE 8.DN 9. GF 10. AVTAK
Or anyone's Bond, for that matter. )

Even I am dissapointed when the man putting flowers on Tracy's grave is revealed to be ...*gasp* ...Roger Moore! I agree 1981 would have been a good time to introduce a new Bond and a new decade.
and yes, Moonraker..what a spectacular way to close out the 1970s.
For this fan, 7 it a bit too much, but 4 not quite enough. Overall, I would say 6 RM films would have been ideal and save FYEO for Dalton.

Much as I like Brosnan, his tenure was unfortunately blemished by the abominable DAD - a film which truly deserves to be wiped from the canon. Also, TND is fun, but I wouldn't re-watch it over and over again.
Short answer to your question - I'd take Moore's 77-83 era over Brosnan's era anytime (Much as I hate to admit it).
