"We'll head him off at the precipice."

In OHMSS, Blofeld utters the above line when he and his henchmen are in pursuit of Bond on skis.

I've always taken it to mean they would try to drive him towards the cliff, then either over it, or then capture him as he reaches the edge.

I've seen multiple references and reviews which have mocked that "cornball" line, as being just a ridiculous thing to say. Is there a double meaning or something here that I'm missing?

I always thought it was a pun on the old western saying,
"We'll head him off at the pass " :D
"I've been informed that there ARE a couple of QAnon supporters who are fairly regular posters in AJB."

someone on here used that line as their signature.

I'm not sure what's so funny about it?

Theres a funny scene in the cowboy comedy film blazing saddles where the foreman
gets shot in the foot by Hedley Lamar for shouting out " we ll head em off at the pass"
    Lamar hates that cliche :))
By the way, did I tell you, I was "Mad"?

agree one of my favourite, made in 1974, can you imagine some one trying to
    re-make that today

Let me clarify: I don't see what's so corny about it ? I mean it's a little goofy, but no where near as bad as the delicatessen line.

Just curious, was it in the novel?

As far as I remember it's not taken from the novel, and I agree it's
no where near as bad as the other line. :))
