The future of bond - 10 questions

I made a similar topic to this years ago. But as years have passed, some of the questions have changed, therefore I feel a fresh topic is suitable.
Basically, answer these 10 questions about the future of the bond film franchise. Not what you hope, but what you THINK.
1 – How long will the series last? Will it actually ever end?
2 – How long will Daniel Craig last as bond?
3 – Will Blofeld/SPECTRE return? (If so, will it be for bond 24?)
4 – IF the series was to ever end, do you think they’d kill bond off?
5 – Will there ever be a larger hiatus between 2 bond films than LTK-GE?
6 – Will there ever be another ‘unofficial’ bond film? (Like NSNA)
7 – Speaking of NSNA, will it ever be considered ‘official’/part of a box-set?
8 – Will there ever be another James Bond that only plays the role for one film?
9 – Which of the remaining Fleming titles will be used for a film title next?
10 – Will they remake any of the old films?

1 – How long will the series last? Will it actually ever end?
Nothing is certain, but I wouldn't be surprised if the series outlasts all of us.
2 – How long will Daniel Craig last as bond?
Two more. He's currently signed on for two and I think that will put a nice bowtie on his tenor as Bond. I don't see Craig as the type who would want to hang on too long.
3 – Will Blofeld/SPECTRE return? (If so, will it be for bond 24?)
I think down the road Blofeld/SPECTRE will return, but not during Craig's run. The term reboot is way overused, but I see the two returning during a new Bond's run. It definitely won't be the same SPECTRE though, a new twist will be coming.
4 – IF the series was to ever end, do you think they’d kill bond off?
Oh I hope not. I would say no.
5 – Will there ever be a larger hiatus between 2 bond films than LTK-GE?
Similarly difficult question to answer as number 1. I would say no.
6 – Will there ever be another ‘unofficial’ bond film? (Like NSNA)
I don't think so. All of the rights are under one house now, correct?
7 – Speaking of NSNA, will it ever be considered ‘official’/part of a box-set?
Yes at some point.
8 – Will there ever be another James Bond that only plays the role for one film?
Sure, things happen. I don't think they will ever plan to have a Bond for one film, but something could happen.
9 – Which of the remaining Fleming titles will be used for a film title next?
Property of a Lady. I don't think they will ever use Risico, Hildebrand Rarity, and definitely not 007 in New York.
10 – Will they remake any of the old films?
I really really hope not. It would look so unsightly in a franchise box set! The three different versions of Casino Royale is different. For EON to remake an EON film would make me sad. By all means use themes and plot points of old Bonds, but don't straight remake it.
2. Craig has a contract for two more. I think that will be a good time to stop.
3. Since they now have the SPECTRE/Blofeld rights back, they can. But should they? Only if they do it a new interesting way, like it was done in TV's Sherlock.
4. No. I don't think they will ever really kill off Bond.
5. There might be a long pause between films if something unusual happens, but I hope not.
6. I don't think there can legaly be more unofficial Bond movies now.
7. I think NSNA will remain a part of Bond history, but not a part of the official series.
8. They will never cast an actor for only one film, but things can happen. He might die or injure himself, or there might be a falling out between the actor and the producers.
9. I think they should use Property of a Lady and Risico, but no more short story titles. Some chapter titles or other quotes from the books are good, such as "A whisper of death".
10. No, I don't think they should. But I think they should use scenes or elements from the books that are unused, such as the garden of death.
The success of SF has insured that the Bond franchise should (will??) last at least a couple more decades. Sherlock Holmes and Godzilla have lasted extremely long, so why not Bond?
It may (eventually) end one day, but I have no idea when that would be.
2 – How long will Daniel Craig last as bond?
I would say for at least 2-3 more films, so about 5 or so more years.
3 – Will Blofeld/SPECTRE return? (If so, will it be for bond 24?)
Probably not for 24, but I'm sure Babs and Mikey aren't going to rule anything out.
4 – IF the series was to ever end, do you think they’d kill bond off?
No way, there would surely be a large negative fan backlash if they did. X-(
5 – Will there ever be a larger hiatus between 2 bond films than LTK-GE?
If that were to ever happen, I think it would kill off the franchise for good.
6 – Will there ever be another ‘unofficial’ bond film? (Like NSNA)
If other hands other than EON make another Bond film, I wouldn't be interested.
7 – Speaking of NSNA, will it ever be considered ‘official’/part of a box-set?
Maybe not now, but sometime down the track. (I couldn't give you a time frame.)
8 – Will there ever be another James Bond that only plays the role for one film?
There will be no further one-offs like Lazenby; the Broccolis would definitely sit down with all future Bond actors and spell out what they would be getting themselves into.
9 – Which of the remaining Fleming titles will be used for a film title next?
Your guess will be as good as mine.
10 – Will they remake any of the old films?
I don't think so; if Babs and Mikey are clued into audiences' demands, they (just) might think people wouldn't want to see the same film again and again.
2. I'd say we'll have Daniel Craig for a couple more films... Unless Bond 24 flops in which case it'll be time for reinvention & a new actor. But as it stands Craig seems to have caught the public mood for the forseeable future.
3. Unless John Logan was writing the script with sure-fire knowledge EON would reclaim SPECTRE I can't see we'll see them in Bond 24, although we may be teased about them for Bond 25.
4. I don't think the producers would kill off Bond. The public will do that for them by not going to see the films.
5. Depends on unforseen legal hiccups or another financial crisis with MGM. But I wouldn't think it'd be the end. EON would just shift operations to another studio.
6. Unless there's a long-lost beneficiary of Kevin McClory's estate who holds a Blofeld-like grudge I can't see there being any rival Bond film.
7. I don't think NSNA will be issued as part of the official series. It's seen as a retro curiosity & will remain so. That aside, I think there's enough material from the cutting room floor to be reinserted to make an interesting Director's Cut.
8. A one-off Bond? Unlikely. I don't really think any actor would get involved in the first place without considering the implications of a multi-film contract. But it's a two-sided affair & any actor would have to give a real stinker of a performance to be let go by Mike & Babs.
9. I like the sound of RISICO & PROPERTY OF A LADY. Both have a good ring to them. Perhaps they may look at variations on chapter headings, but I'm not aux fait enough with the novels to suggest which.
10. I don't think remakes make sense. It'd have to be a real act of desperation on the part of EON to do so.
Not as long as there is still an audience for it. For the moment, the audience for Bond films does not appear to have dwindled, so it's fair to say that the producers have done a very good job in keeping the series fresh.
Until he completes his contracted fifth Bond film. There's no way he can do more than that, he's already starting to look too old for the role.
I keep hearing rumours about that, but I would find it somewhat unlikely: the Blofeld/SPECTRE was arguably invented by McClory which caused the whole Fleming/McClory/EON lawsuit battle that resulted in an unofficial remake of Thunderball. I do not believe that the producers would want to relive that, even if the case has been all but settled.
No. Killing off a character has a sense of finality about it. By leaving the character alive - or, leaving an uncertainty as to whether the character is alive or dead (a la the ending of the From Russia With Love novel) leaves the door slightly ajar for the character to return should the producers decide that the time is right to re-launch the series.
Quite possibly.
Not unless it's based on the same storyline, so it'd have to be the second remake of Thunderball. The court decided that McClory owned part of the rights to the Thunderball story, as I recall, and was thus able to licence the rights to make a film version of it.
To the best of my knowledge, no one else owns any rights to any other Bond stories or the Bond character, perhaps with the exception of The Spy Who Loved Me which was never sold, which would therefore be in the hands of the Fleming estate. If they can be convinced to licence the rights to a film company, a film version based on the book The Spy Who Loved Me could be made.
No.
Possibly.
Risico
I think that is unlikely. They may re-hash some older plot devices, but I think it is unlikely that they will want to remake an entire film.
I think it will go on beyond our lives, and even if it slows down a great deal it'll never actually end.
2 – How long will Daniel Craig last as bond?
2 more sounds about right.
3 – Will Blofeld/SPECTRE return? (If so, will it be for bond 24?)
I'd love to see an interesting modern take on Blofeld and SPECTRE, but not for 24. I think they "owe" it to us to wrap up Quantum before moving on to SPECTRE. And I really really hope they don't try to transition one into the other with a "Quantum was SPECTRE all along storyline."
4 – IF the series was to ever end, do you think they’d kill bond off?
Nah, I see them to actually follow through with a love story ending with him resigning a la the end of CR, just without the betrayal.
5 – Will there ever be a larger hiatus between 2 bond films than LTK-GE?
Probably not, since their legal troubles are purportedly behind them.
6 – Will there ever be another ‘unofficial’ bond film? (Like NSNA)
Probably not, for the same reason.
7 – Speaking of NSNA, will it ever be considered ‘official’/part of a box-set?
Not by me. And I hope it's not in a box set.
8 – Will there ever be another James Bond that only plays the role for one film?
Not on purpose.
9 – Which of the remaining Fleming titles will be used for a film title next?
In order of likelihood: Property of a Lady, Hildebrand Rarity, Risico, 007 in New York
10 – Will they remake any of the old films?
Oh, I hope not.

2 – How long will Daniel Craig last as bond? - My guess is one more film after Bond 24.
3 – Will Blofeld/SPECTRE return? (If so, will it be for bond 24?) - I believe that at some point in the future we will see the return of SPECTRE, but not Blofeld.
4 – IF the series was to ever end, do you think they’d kill bond off? - No, because I think the door will always be kept open for the return of the series.
5 – Will there ever be a larger hiatus between 2 bond films than LTK-GE? - There's really no way to tell, because there are so many unpredictable factors that could come into play.
6 – Will there ever be another ‘unofficial’ bond film? (Like NSNA) - I doubt it. Afterall, how many times can Thunderball be re-made?
7 – Speaking of NSNA, will it ever be considered ‘official’/part of a box-set? - I don't know about being considered a part of the "official" series, but I don't see any reason why it couldn't be included in a box-set.
8 – Will there ever be another James Bond that only plays the role for one film? - Not intentionally.
9 – Which of the remaining Fleming titles will be used for a film title next? - The only one I feel certain of is The Property of a Lady.
10 – Will they remake any of the old films? - I don't think so (and I really hope I'm right about that one!)
1 – How long will the series last? Will it actually ever end? Indefinitely. As long as an audience will pay.
2 – How long will Daniel Craig last as bond? Two more Bonds. They're taking way too long to make them or he would do more.
3 – Will Blofeld/SPECTRE return? (If so, will it be for bond 24?) I hope so.
4 – IF the series was to ever end, do you think they’d kill bond off? No.
5 – Will there ever be a larger hiatus between 2 bond films than LTK-GE? Possibly. There was already four years between QoS and SF.
6 – Will there ever be another ‘unofficial’ bond film? (Like NSNA) Doubtful.
7 – Speaking of NSNA, will it ever be considered ‘official’/part of a box-set? Possibly. It probably doesn't sell well enough on its own.
8 – Will there ever be another James Bond that only plays the role for one film? Doubtful.
9 – Which of the remaining Fleming titles will be used for a film title next? The Property of a Lady. Possibly James Bond in New York. If they don't start raiding the titles of non-Fleming Bond books, they'll probably borrow from lines in stories or chapter titles.
10 – Will they remake any of the old films? I suspect they will. But they'll be adaptations more than remakes.
2. I believe Craig is signed for two more Bond movies, but after those he will be almost 50 and the mistake of having an actor playing a character for too long (sorry Roger but AVTAK was one step too far) shouldn't be made twice.
3. No, as much as I want it to , I doubt it, SPECTRE wouldn't fit the 21st century.
4. NO! (at least I hope not), killing Bond off would be awful but Ian Fleming originally wanted Bond to get killed off in the novel From Russia With Love so who knows.
5. Maybe, see Q1
6. Highly unlikely, EON have all rights to the Bond franchise after McClory's death and the whole Thunderball fiasco and if there is a parody it'll most likely be rubbish (except Austin Powers haha)
7. I doubt it, it hasn't been seen as canon so I see no reason for it to become a part of a future box set.
8. Possibly, hard to tell.
9. I reckon Risico from For Your Eyes Only would work as a Bond title, and The Property of a Lady from Octopussy and The Living Daylights could work, but not 007 in New York; it sounds too much like a 'spin off' film title.
10. I would LOVE remakes of some of the older classics such as Goldfinger and Thunderball, and it doesn't seem too unlikely, but it seems too inconvenient (with time, cost and trying to make them 'new') and I dread to think it would be a boring, over-hyped, unnecessary 'special effects galore' film with bad actors, as that happens to heaps of remakes these days...
Absolutely fantastic thread Jarvio, deep questions and really interesting responses from other users too!
1 . The longevity of the series also relies on someone continuing producing them after Barbara Brocolli and
Michael G. Wilson retire. Do they have sons and relatives to take over?
Bleuville.
Yes, and they're already working on the films just as BB and MGW did under Cubby.
