HI Bondcollectorsweekend, hope your not suffering toooo much in the Floridian sun :D but my uncle used to work for a store
Piccadilly London ,and he said he/they made a coat like that for the Rolling stones drummer Charlie Watts ,he said its called an
Inverness cape, and it was made in Harris tweed, he (my uncle) always used to say that any time the stones were on the TV
    sadly he is dead now
By the way, did I tell you, I was "Mad"?

Lazenby's coat is, I believe, an Ulster.

Such was worn by either M or his driver - Stokes/Bates? - at the start of DR NO in the filthy wet rain of 1 March in London.

I can check which of the two is its if you like by checking the book on the bookcase behind me if you like ;) B-) ;%

In Moonraker Drax wears an ulster: "He wore a heavy ulster up round his ears and a cap pulled down over his eyes." But it doesn't mean he wore a coat like Lazenby's. By the mid 20th century the ulster was more typically a less formal double-breasted coat without a cape.

Really, really hate to concede to Matt S. But having looked at DN now (against my better inclinations) the coat is not mentioned at the start of that novel.

Regardless of whether styles of Ulster may or may not have changed...

M's ulster is a tad more old school (if not merely battered from wear) in Colonel Sun:

"Bond glanced round the incongruous normality of Quarterdeck's hall – the gleaming pine panels, the 1/144 scale model of M's last ship, the battle-cruiser Repulse, M's own antiquated ulster thrown carelessly on to the old-fashioned hall-stand."
