It's almost the prototype for the Casino Royale sequence, minus the parkour. The episode's "The Skyline Killer."

I haven't seen any episodes of Hawaii 5-0, but this ties in with our current discussion of Kiss the Girls and Make Them Die and Our Man From Bond Street.

It's hard to come up with something completely original or be aware of every TV and movie action scenes that have already been done.

I've also heard the Skyfall rooftop motorcycle chase was nearly identical to the Istanbul motorcycle chase in Taken 2.

    I don't remember a motorcycle rooftop chase in Taken 2 ? :)
Then didn't they have to scrap one of the first scripts for GE as
It was very close to True Lies ? Sometimes it only a coincidence. :D

Did you know True Lies was a remake of a french film La Totale ?

Only found out this morning that Beverly Hills Cop was original
Written for Sylvester Stallone :)) I'd say it would have been a
Very different movie, without the talents of Eddie Murphy. :D

Die Hard actually was The Detective II, and would have starred Frank Sinatra since he played the character in the first movie. It was, more or less, developed from the novel. The Die Hard sequels, though, used elements that were rejected from the first film's script.

This video also shows that the motorcycle chase using the same setting for a different kind of chase in the other movie: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xmoIDKqfY44.

Will SF also get blamed for coping any chase set on the underground etc ?
Sometimes coincidences happen. It's like when Armageddon and Deep
Impact were released at almost the same time. :D

It depends on the nature of the chase, I suppose. The airport sequence in the truck in Casino Royale, for instance, "borrows" an awful lot from the truck chase in Raiders of the Lost Ark, to the degree that even my students assumed it had been copied and reworked for the film. The choice of filming a chase on the same neighborhood rooftops in another country seems to require more deliberation than the choice to film in a local subway, where one tunnel more or less looks like any other. To me, Skyfall is more guilty of lifting ideas from The Dark Knight, which also had a motorcycle sequence in a shopping mall, a crazed villain who is ten steps ahead of everyone else, and a brooding hero haunting by the events of his past, but the details are different enough to make the broader ideas perhaps less obvious.

I can see your point or in chess parlance " your bishop is exposed " :))
The only point I stray away is, piling the blame on Skyfall. ;)
A Chase through a shopping mall, The Blues Brothers did it years ago !
Maybe the dark night was copying them ;) and as for psycho. Villains
On the edge of cracking up and being unstable ? James Cagney made
A living out of playing them way back in the 30s and 40s
" On top of the world, Ma!" :))
In my humble opinion everything gets reused, recycled and rehashed :))
There are no new stories, just variations on old ones. In fact didn't someone
Say there are in fact only seven stories and everything else is an amalgamation
Of several to give variations. :))
Another quote I seem to remember is along the lines of
" Everybody steals ( ideas) the secret is to steal from the best " :))
    I just happy to be entertained for a couple of hours. -{

Unless the rooftops in Instanbul look surprisingly similar, one would think that the very same rooftops were used for those 2 movies. On a related note, the QoS rooftop foot chase in Italy looked very similar to the Bourne Ultimatum rooftop foot chase in Tangiers.

Die Hard was actually based on a 1979 novel called "Nothing Lasts Forever"

The Terminator was based on an Outer Limits episode "The Soldier" (credited in later prints of the film after a lawsuit)

Audiences didn't seem to mind that Skyfall was remixed major plot elements from Goldeneye, TWINE and non-Bond films Hard Target and Home Alone.

Gassyman- Good point about the truck chase in Raiders. Although, one could say it was based on stunts in John Ford's 1939 classic Stagecoach.

This is the first film ever made in 1896. I've noticed Bond
Has ripped off many of its ideas.
A train pulling into a station, FRWL was full of that.
They have a station guard walking across the screen, clearly
The inspiration for Bond walking across for the gun barrel sequence !
There are many people interacting, we've had much if that in the
    Bond series.

The first Feature film ever made was " The Kelly gang" 1906.
In which we see people robbing a train ( Octopussy ), Men can be
Seen using firearms, Bond totally ripped off this idea.

As for love scenes " The Kiss" 1896 showed the first on screen kiss, which
Bond has totally ripped off big time over the years. Not to mention
The Home Alone homage at the end of SF !

Please understand this is not a serious post, but I am annoyed at the eagerness
Some have at slagging off the Bond films. :# and it's a knee jerk reaction for me
To come to their defence. :)) but I'll leave it alone now. {[]

With Bond copying so many films it's hard to think of any original ideas they
Had. :# I wonder why we keep on watching them . :))
