Which do you prefer? I think I prefer the 60's because it has Goldfinger and From Russia with Love.

'60s are the best in terms of overall quality, but '70s are the most fun - for me anyway.

The 60s films are the best as they seem more plot driven rather than character driven.

The 60's Films had a certain Charm to them. Whilst the 70's Films felt more bigger Budget.

60s. Film in general lost its gloss and larger-than-life quality by the 70s, the Bond films no exception. And 007 became less of a character in his own movies.

Outside of YOLT, the 60's films were all Fleming's material. Though LALD was as well, they changed the plot so much and made the villains so lightweight
it can't be considered Fleming material.

I think that's why many prefer them. Only Fleming could write Bond. The scriptwriters that tried to recreate Bond's universe just could not measure up.

If only Fleming could write Bond, then I'm surprised that The Living Daylights and Licence to Kill don't get MORE respect than they do because TLD was basically a Fleming short story expanded into a larger Bond film and LTK basically took scenes from Live and Let Die the Fleming book, and placed them into the film such as Felix getting maimed by a shark...But I digress.

Although I would also rank TSWLM and MR has being of the highest quality.

The 60's seems like an unbeatable decade, until I remember that I'm not a huge fan of TB or OHMSS. Both are near the bottom of my top 20.
    My current 10 favorite:

    1. GE 2. MR 3. OP 4. TMWTGG 5. TSWLM 6. TND 7. TWINE 8.DN 9. GF 10. AVTAK

Hard to choice.. I mean visually and charm it's 60s easily. Something about that decade just had a certain feel to it that was just amazing. But, story and favourite wise it's 70s with a string of great films. Don't think you could really go too wrong with either :p

60s, without a shadow of doubt. All the best Bond films were made in the 1960s.

No competition: sixties all the way. Not a dud among them, and the decade climaxed with the greatest Bond film of all time. The seventies offered two excellent films and two duds before climaxing with the worst Bond film of all time.

Good idea for a thread. I prefer the 1960s Bonds to the 1970s Bond by a large majority.

Well, each decade features a Bond film that I hold in high regard (FRWL and TSWLM). It is hard for me to choose between those two because I love them so much...BUT, looking at the movies that surround each in their respective decades- From Russia With Love is grouped in with other Connery classics and I regretfully have to admit that even the Lazenby film is decent lol. The Spy Who Loved Me has Live And Let Die - which is pretty solid on my personal list, but everything else from the decade doesn't quite measure up. I would have to go with the 60s.
    1. Goldeneye 2. The Spy Who Loved Me 3. From Russia With Love 4. Goldfinger 5. Casino Royale

Looking at the '60s films now there's the clear sense of a franchise evolving through the decade, with all things we now take for granted gradually slotting into place. That's why, for me anyway, there's a freshness to it all still.
The '70s films juggle the formula for a new, seemingly younger generation. It interests me how these pictures soak in other genres, adding new elements to the formula.

With the exception of TLD & LTK, all of the best Bonds were made in the Sixties, so this is an easy choice. :007)
Dalton & Connery rule. Brozz was cool.

I'd have to go with the 70s probably... I enjoy both but I only really watch one of the 60s films with any regularity.

I'm going with the Bond films of the 70's. Don't get me wrong, the overall quality of the 60's Bonds were better; Dr. No, From Russia With Love, Goldfinger & OHMSS are masterful. But I'll watch even the worst film of the 70's (Diamonds Are Forever or The Man with the Golden Gun) on a whim at any given time. I'm also going with the 70's because the level of ambition is unparalleled. Even Moonraker, for all its various faults, demonstrates a remarkable sense of scale and cutting edge special effects. And as far as I'm concerned, Live And Let Die & The Spy Who Loved Me rate among the best of the Bonds.

    1) The Spy Who Loved Me 2) On Her Majesty's Secret Service 3) GoldenEye 4) Casino Royale 5) Goldfinger
